"The derivative of e to the power of a polynomial is just the original statement multiplied by the derivative of the exponent. The derivative of a constant with a polynomial power, however, is the original statement multiplied by the derivative of the exponent multiplied by the natural log of the constant." A man in his thirties spoke. He was writing on a whiteboard equations that corresponded with his words.
A packed classroom of teenagers furiously wrote down in their notebooks trying to keep up with the teachers pace while also trting to understand the new concepts being taught, except for some who opted to give their full attention to the teacher without writing anything.
One of those students, who was writing in his notebook like a good little boy, noticed a sudden shift in his perspective. The words on his notebook changed, the voice of his instructor muted, the sound of writing stopped, and the smell of sweaty pubescent boys disappeared.
He had a cute, confused, scared look on his face. How about we change perspectives? Take a little gander at his mind?

Mmmm? This vexes me. One moment I was in my Calculus class and the next I'm in a completely different room surrounded by kids. Though I was more concerned about something else.
I look at my small body. I was now japanese as opposed to my previous Caucasian ethnicity. I also noticed that this body felt powerful. More powerful than my previous more grown body. That was something.
I observe the room around me. It resembled a classroom. The teacher was at the front and the students sat on seats that got more elevated as they moved towards the back of the room.
The students, who all looked around ten years old, were all talking amongst themselves. I couldn't hear any of their words because of how many people were talking at once.
Was this a dream? What was happening? Where is this place? A multitude of questions entered my mind. None of them were answered though.
This place does look familiar though. Did I fall asleep? Am I having a lucid dream? Is this familiar place from my memories? I don't recall ever being in a classroom like this as a kid.
Since this is a lucid dream can't I conjure up anything I want? My brain conjured up the image of an apple. It was the most simple thing I could have thought of. It didn't work though. Maybe I'm not adept enough at lucid dreaming to make things yet.
Before I could make another attempt the teacher at the front of the room yelled. "Ok class! Go out to the training grounds and we'll start taijutsu spars!"
All the kids around me got up and started walking in a crowd out the classroom door. Deciding to follow along, I walk with the crowd.
We arrive at a clearing that was behind the school building. It was huge. It went from the school to a nearby mountain.
The mountain was strange. It was completely vertical like a cliff. That wasn't the strange part though. On the mountain there were four huge faces protruding from the top. That explains where I am.
I must have conjured the Naruto universe in my dream. It was strange that I was dreaming of Naruto and yet I didn't see any of the characters. Quite disappointing.
An arm wraps around my shoulders and pulls me towards them. I look over to see a kid that was way bigger than me. Something about his smile told me he wasn't friendly. "Hey, wanna be my sparring partner?"
I look around and see all of the kids pairing up to fight eachother. The teacher was watching them while sometimes pointing out some kids mistakes.
"Yeah, let's spar." I didn't know how to fight, but I'm sure I can beat a kid in my own dream.
The boy who challenged me held up his hand in a half seal. I recognized it as the seal of confrontation. I reciprocated the seal.
The second I put up the sign he rushed towards me. I couldn't react and he slammed his fist straight into my stomach. Pain assaulted me. My stomach burned and I felt like throwing up.
Isn't this a dream? Why can I feel pain? Why does it hurt so much?
He stomped on my body, which had fallen from the previous blow. I looked up to see a vicious smile on the boys face. The stupid bastard was beating me for fun. Once i figure out how to control this dream I'll make spaghetti out of your arms and legs and feed it to you while your a fucking nugget!
After a few minutes of him beating the shit out of me, he stopped. I look up to see another kid with his hand on the first kids shoulder. "You shouldn't be bullying people. How about you take my partner and I take him?"
"Fine." The first boy mumbled before walking away.
The new boy held his hand out for me to grab. I let him help me up. He looked like a stereotypical popular kid. Still better than that stupid fucker from before.
"Thanks..." I perform the seal of confrontation to initiate a duel. The teacher had yelled at a few other kids for slacking off, so I can at least make it look like I'm sparring.
His smile got weird as he put up the seal too. Before I knew it I felt a pain on my face. My thoughts started fading and my vision starting getting dark. At least I'll wake up from this stupid dream.

Sigh. What do I do? Hikaru has been unmotivated throughout his entire time in the academy. As his teacher I feel obligated to motivate him before he becomes a shinobi and faces infinite danger.
I've tried many things to motivate him to get stronger. I've tried introducing him to many subjects, telling him about how much money high level ninja make, telling him that high level shinobi are the most eligible bachelors in the village, and much more.
Today though he accepted a spar with on of the strongest students in the class and got beaten badly. I was about to stop it, but I saw the passion, that I was trying to awaken, in his eyes. It became even more pronounced when the strongest boy in the class started beating him.
I intervened when he passed out and punished the two boys. I'm not sure why Hikaru suddenly got so passionate, but I'm going to make sure it's put towards the right thing; training.
Hikaru has just enough talent to pass, but not enough talent to survive by coasting by. He's going to have to work extra hard to be as strong as someone barely training.
When he wakes up I'll make sure he doesn't continue wasting his potential now that he has that fire in his eyes.
