Chapter 1 : Nanites Initialization

January 5th, year - 72. (Konohagakure was established in year 0)

Naruto is 7 years old.

2nd-year academy student. The academic year starts in January.

'No lunch for today'

Another day of hunger. Naruto got used to it by now. If he just roams around the village for a little while, the hunger will go away. He learned that very early. But today he couldn't control it. Even though he had lots of cup ramen in his house, he was not in the mood to eat it.

If today was a working day he would have had his lunch at the academy. But the previous and today we're also a holiday. So he is running towards the forest beyond the Hokage mountain in search of something to eat. He had been there so many times, not just in search of food, just to stay away from all those…stares, hate, and their words, when it was too much for him to bear. And today was one of those days.

He just didn't understand why the people stand around and stare every time he passes by, the weird whispers, the dislike and hatred, nothing made sense to him. Some disregarded him as if he was nothing. He just covered it all up with smiling all time.

It's been two years since he started living on his own. Well…..he has been living on his own as far as he could remember.

The lady at the orphanage never took care of him. Bathing, eating, combing his hair, dressing up, the only thing she helped him in was washing his clothes and teaching him how to read and write. If it wasn't for the old man Hokage who would visit him from time to time, she wouldn't have even taught him to read and write. That too stopped when he was five years old.

He was given an apartment to live in on his own. A whole apartment. It even has a balcony from where he could see the market district clearly. Well, the apartment is in a poor neighborhood. Mostly unemployed and some crooks stayed here. And they too change houses or move to other places in a short time. He never had a constant neighbor.

After getting his own house he learned how to cook, wash, and some other things he needed to depend on others.

The ten-minute run took him to a small stream. He laid down on a rock nearby under the shade looking up at the sky watching the birds flying and clouds moving away.

'Man, I wish I was some kind of bird. Then I can fly anywhere I want. Away from these people, away from this village'

His thoughts were going from one to another, thinking of how to spend another day in the village. Tears threatened to fall off his eyes, but he held on.

Time went on and it was night, his hunger came back with full force. Just when he thought of returning to his house, he saw a light streak past the sky and fall some distance away from him. The light streak was not big or long, if naruto was not looking up when it fell from the sky, he would not have noticed it.

His curiosity got spiked.

'Is that a star? Maybe some super ninja flying through the sky and fell there. Maybe god dropped some super awesome Jutsu to help me', Naruto thought as he ran excitedly towards the place where he thought the light descended.

Normally the ninja in the village would have noticed the light that passed over them and would have investigated it. However small the source was, they would have thoroughly checked it.

But every ninja in the village was busy trying to apprehend a mass killer who just wiped out his entire clan. Even naruto's usual ANBU guards who tail him all the time were called back early in the morning to help keep outsiders from getting close to the Uchiha compound so that Itachi could do his job without any interference.

So the event that happened with naruto was left unnoticed.

When naruto reached the crash site, he saw a small crater with a metal box (20x20x20 cm cube) in the middle. If it wasn't for the box present at the center of the crater, one would have thought it was a naturally formed depression on the ground.

Naruto ran to the box took it in his hand and inspected it. He couldn't find any damage in the box nor could he find any opening. He shook the box hard and tried to verify the contents in the box. He couldn't hear anything from the box.

'Well, I found it. So it is mine. I can open it later too', he walked back to his house with the box in his arms.

The streets were desolate when he walked back to his house. It was only 9:00 pm, normally there would be people and ninjas walking around the streets. But since there were no people to stare at him, his mood was a little better and he totally forgot about the strangeness of the situation in the village.

Naruto arrived at the room, put the container on the dining table, and moved towards the cabinet. Opening the cabinet there were rows and rows of cup ramen neatly arranged.

'Hmm…How many to eat today? 3 or 4 or 5….' his mind did not provide any conclusion. Eating Ramen is one of the things he enjoys leisurely. Other things are pranking and skipping classes.

As he was very hungry, he took five cups moved towards the dining table to eat. While eating he thought of tomorrow's academy class and grimaced.

It is Iruka sensei's class on Monday. Iruka sensei, just like every other villager present in the village. Iruka hates him. Iruka doesn't use violence or scold naruto, he just ignores him like he is air. But naruto could do nothing about that.

'I am going to become the greatest Hokage, you know. Then everyone will respect me'

The metal container was left forgotten under the bed.

(Next day)

Naruto woke up in a hurry and looked at the watch by the bed.

'I am so dead, there is only ten minutes to class', he scrambled out of the bed, changed his dress, and ran towards the academy.

In the classroom, before roll call, Iruka looked around the classroom searching for naruto. Not that he particularly cared about the boy, he did this every time he took the roll call.

'He skipped class today too?'

"Everyone be seated and answer the attendance"

It was then Naruto barged into the room.

"Naruto Uzumaki, your future Hokage is here" he shouted.

The whole class sighed at naruto's wild and unruly performance. They have gotten used to it by now.

There was one girl in the class, who slightly blushed while looking at Naruto.

"Naruto, shut up and sit down" Kiba.

The class went on as usual. Naruto slept in the class along with Shikamaru. Both never bothered to listening anything in the class. Shikamaru already knew whatever stuff the instructors were going to teach. Well, all the children belonging to a clan mostly knew the stuff that Iruka was teaching.

And naruto…..well naruto had an interest in learning once but that was during the beginning of the academy. Later it dwindled because of the behavior of teachers and instructors towards him. So he rarely listened to anything in the class, if it wasn't anything related to Jutsu or trap making they don't have his interest.

Naruto raced towards the academy canteen. He didn't have any breakfast so he wanted to fill his stomach as much as he can.

Nobody bothered to sit with him in the mess hall. And only orphans and some civilians used the cafeteria. Don't assume the number of orphan students will be less. The cafeteria is filled with kids.

Even in the capital city of the land of fire, there are thousands of orphans roaming the streets and this is a ninja village, where the average age for a human being is below 20. So the village doesn't lack orphans or any cannon fodders.

The afternoon class also went the same as the morning session.

"Oi Naruto, wake up. Ichida sensei is gone. The class is over. We need to go outside now for Mizuki's class" Choji woke naruto.

"Eh eh what…..Class is over. Then let's go to the playground" naruto who just woke up, turned side to side and noticed only he, choji, and Shikamaru present in the room.

"Troublesome, we have combat class now naruto. In the training ground B"

Walking towards the training grounds naruto had some small talk with Shikamaru and choji. When they arrived at the training ground they saw everyone standing in a semi-circle with Iruka sensei and Mizuki sensei in front of them and speaking with the students.

Seeing the three kids arriving late, Iruka glared at them. Naruto oblivious to that spoke to the crowd.

"Man, I am going to beat Sasuke to the ground today"

"He didn't come to the academy today naruto", Choi stated.

"WHAT….Just when I thought I have the power to defeat that bastard, he escaped" Naruto didn't notice that during roll call, Iruka and every other sensei omitted Sasuke's name and continued with the others.

It was not the case for others. Like Shikamaru observed the changes in the village this morning. Plus his father was called by the Hokage last night and he didn't return till morning. And also the absence of the police force in the village. THE UCHIHA. He would encounter at least two patrols walking around streets when he comes to the academy. Today he didn't see any of them.

Moreover, he noticed there was some tenseness present among all the school teachers and instructors. Even just now when naruto said Sasuke's name both Iruka and Mizuki sensei's shoulders went stiff and eyes widened a little. He just could not make any conclusion. But he could guess that this has something to do with the Uchiha clan. That was all.

"The loser wants to defeat Sasuke dream on" Fangirl No.1

"Sasuke is totally gonna win if he was here" Fangirl No. 2

"You have to defeat me first dead last" Kiba shouted from the side.

"Everyone shut up. Now I am going to call names one by one. You will begin taijutsu one vs one. Akira vs Nobu"

The taijutsu class was over and everyone left the academy one by one.

"Uhh…..man today was so lame. My opponent was not even a challenge" Naruto said to Shikamaru and choji.

Shikamaru agreed with that. Not about his fight. His fight was with choji which ended with a draw. He agreed that naruto's fight was lame. Naruto may look small but he is a stamina freak. He just needs to wear down the enemy for a while and then finish them off.

And naruto's opponent just happened to be a civilian. Naruto's fight turned into a brawl, which he won easily. Well, every fight looked like a brawl, except for the fight between clan members.

"Want to go to the playground now?" Naruto asked both shikamaru and choji.

"Not today naruto, my mother asked me to return home as soon as the classes are over" Shikamaru answered to naruto.

"Me too Naruto. I have practice with my father today. Bye-bye" Choji also rejected naruto. Due to the tensions in the village, both Shikamaru and choji's parents asked them to return early that evening.

The three were not really friends but it was only these two who spoke with naruto regularly. Every other kid avoided him, especially civilian kids. So naruto tried not to interact with others much. And it was Shikamaru and choji were the ones who spoke with him first and joined him in pranking now and then.

Naruto parted with them and went towards Hokage mountain. There he sat on the fourth Hokage's head and looked down at the village. From up here, the village looked big….very big. Naruto hadn't really covered even a quarter part of the village.

This was one of his regular activities. Either he sits on the Hokage statues and looks down at the village or practices in the forest beyond the Hokage mountain. He built himself an obstacle course during his first year in the academy which he clears at least once daily. The obstacle simple and crude may have been difficult for many academy students, but for a stamina monster like naruto, it was plain easy.

The day was over with ichiraku's ramen.

"I assume you want your usual miso ramen, am I right naruto-kun"

"Yes, Teuchi ojisan"

Soon naruto was done with his two bowls of ramen.

"Oh ho ho…is two bowls enough for you naruto?" Teuchi asked naruto. He knew naruto doesn't have money at the beginning of the month until the stipend arrives. usually, it arrives at the end of the first week. So he lets naruto eat one or two bowls for free in the shop now and then.

"It is enough ojisan. In two days Jiji will be bringing my stipend money. After that, I will eat more"

Entering his house naruto noticed the metal box on the dining table. He didn't try opening it after he brought it back home.

"I completely forgot about that"

He tried to pry it open using many methods, he thought there might be something useful in there.

He rotated the container and noticed there was something written on one side. He couldn't understand what was written in there, when he ran his finger over the letters the lid of the container opened slowly with a sharp hiss emitting cold air.

Naruto jumped back as the chill air hit his hands. He was startled at first and then rejoiced at the open box. He walked near to check the contents of the box.

There was a handprint in the center and a digital display on the upper side of the box. Naruto didn't know what was the purpose of both. It looked like some device he had seen in the hospital.

Out of curiosity, he placed his hand over the handprint.

The box in naruto's hand contains bio-nanites that crossed through space and time from an advanced civilization. People move from one planet to another on daily basis for work or entertainment in that civilization. The people present in that world had nanites injected into their bodies, which helped them from day-to-day activities to warfare and research.

This particular box was being transported from one planet to another for a presentation. But a violent cosmic storm appeared out of nowhere and destroyed the spaceship. Only this particular nanite container survived the impact and was thrown into the space.

(AN: I know this is cliche but bear with me, this is just a fiction I conjured up in my mind. If MC can transmigrate in some novels then AI too can get teleported from one universe to another)

The nanites present in the box naruto carrying has, first-generation bio-nanite which has in-built AI. A new product even in modern civilization. A Nanite that can multiply on its own using users' biology and sustain itself to aid the host. And when the life of a particular nanite is complete/over, it shuts down and destructs itself without any damage to the host. An AI chip and a little over a million nanites, which is the bare minimum needed for self-replication are ready to be injected.

Naruto was examining the handprint. The hand imprint was so big that naruto's hand fit within the palm of the imprint. He placed his hand on the imprint out of curiosity to see anything to happen.

Light came out of the handprint and scanned naruto's hand. After some five seconds, naruto's hand went further into the box as the imprint lowered itself. Three needles shot out from the handprint into naruto's hand and injected the nanites into his system.

Naruto yelled and jumped away from the box holding his right hand. He felt something prick in his palm and that was all. He looked down and saw three little piercings that were the size of needles he saw in hospitals, at the center of his palm.

It healed fast as usual, in twenty seconds there was no evidence of the wounds.

Soon he felt drowsy and moved towards his bed.

Whatever was in the box he will have to check it tomorrow. Now he needed sleep. He entered the dreamland as soon as he hit the bed.

As soon as nanites entered naruto's biological system, they begin their integration process.

[Beep. Nanites infusion is successful. Initiating coding process. User's DNA is being tested to be coded…..]

These nanites are controlled by an AI. The AI is a microprocessor, which works from the brain, recording everything the user does and helping him in the process by controlling the nanites.

The AI took its base in naruto's brain and started replicating itself first instead of replicating the nanites. The replicated nodes were sent to different parts of the body to act as a backup for the main AI processor. If the main processor in the brain gets damaged or destroyed the nodes act as a carrier of the AI, replace the damaged ones, and continue to process. Like hive mind with the user as its core.

[Beep. DNA of the user is coded into the Nanites permanently]

Once coded the nanites do not operate outside the body. Once a nanite goes out, it is out of bounds of the AI, it disintegrates.

[Multiplication and Distribution of Nanites to every organ. Beginning process. Estimated time…..1hr]

Nanites needed biomass for multiplication. And also these nanites don't completely replace organs, nerves, or any vital part of the body. They just flow in the bloodstream or settle in a particular organ based on the user's preference or convenience.
