1 Betrayal [part 1]

Emily's POV:

I woke up at the noise of the emergency alarm.

I made a small grunt in annoyance due to my precious sleep being disturbed, and get ready for my 'battle'.

Yep, it is a battle. A battle against time, one which I face everyday as routine since 11 years. I sigh as I read the information passed to me and made my way to the operation theater, my battle field. It was so chaotic. It would be, because there were many 'patients' with life threatening injuries - ruptured blood vessels, bullet holes, broken bones(limbs), half burned bodies and lets not forget my cousin who was poisoned with toxins, which I suspect are quite lethal. I control my emotions and get into action without wasting another moment.

In short, all of them look like they had just escaped from the clutches of death itself, and my job is to save them. And I did save them through a very long hurdle which is too bothersome to explain so, just think of it as a work of magic and accept it. Oh, it is a work of magic.

Ah, I feel so exhausted. So I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow, my consciousness drifting into land dreams or, maybe not.

Third person POV:

As soon as Dr. Rowens entered the operation theater, she checked the condition of the patients and started giving instructions(commands) to start the operations. Soon, one by one, all the agents who were on the brink of death recovered to stable condition and were out of danger.

A miracle occurred just like that, and it was no strange sight to all the members in Aseth, for they have seen it a number times how the doctor, revived her patients on the brink of death. Seemingly dead person would have few moments of life left in him and could be saved, lethal poison would be dissolved and could be saved, broken bones could be mended, etc.

Everyone first thought that she was a genius, then a freak and they settled with the title 'Witch'. It was so because nobody could explain how no one died in her hands since she arrived and her work, was similar to that of magic than anything else.

Micheal, her boss, also thought the same, but that only made him admire her more. He just felt sorry that Emily had a blithe personality and had no friends except her cousin Yukino. Those two were more like sisters, Emily being few years older, she saw Yukino as a little sister she needed to to take care of.

Micheal had been taking care of them since their parents died on a mission when they were very young. He couldn't bear to leave them to others, so he raised them like his own daughters. He thought them everything he could and they learned them, very well. He was proud of them. Emily made sure Aseth would have minimum or no loses at all, Yukino finished all the missions with success.

Everyone thought that they were a 'witch' and a 'monster'. But he thinks otherwise. In fact, those two were just his special little girls, forced because of their circumstances to become what they are today. Micheal still remembered how those two would play pranks on everyone and would hide behind him, their 'uncle Mike' and let him bear the burns of their mothers' wrath.

Although those two were driven by revenge for their parents, they didn't let each other get consumed in it. They were there for each other and he couldn't ask for more than that. He was happy and content. He thinks he can finally relax and get retired without anything holding him back as his two girls were grown up, both beautiful and the best.

With such thoughts, he went to those two. He found they were in their exclusive ward. He went inside to talk to them.

Emily's POV:

I woke up and went to check on Yukino's condition. I found the girl was awake and watching some silly cartoons again. I sigh at myself, what did I expect from this kid anyway?

"You know that you cannot wake up just yet, don't you?", I asked her.

"Well, I do know that, but who would suspect us anyway? Everyone here already think that you are a witch and me as a monster, so me waking up now wont be so unnatural", was her reply.

"Jokes aside Yukino, this time was a close call, what were you thinking?"

"That I agree too, and I think this time was called close especially for me."

"Oh, really?"

"I was completely fine, the mission went fine and somehow we got ambushed on our way back. And the assailants just happen to my team's highs and lows very well."

"What are you trying to say, Yukino?"

"What I meant was there were few clowns who thought they knew all about me so I let them know more about me.", Yukino smirked and said: "And I got to know their ring leader too."

I felt a little angry at her careless attitude, taking a deep breath, I whispered to her in voice with controlled rage, "Yukino, do you even need to know? It was very obvious and you risked your life for such a thing. You make me worry a lot. "

"I get it, I'm sorry, I was being a little reckless and got poisoned but I knew you wont let anything happen to me, Emily please forgive, sister!" she begged dramatically with her cute watery doe eyes...and before I knew, I found my anger slowly vanishing. I fell for it again. I tell myself that this would be last time I excuse her (again) and I pull her into a hug, which she readily jumps at. I was really worried about her this time.

"Yukino, you should understand that magic is not absolute. Even my abilities have their limitations, and I never want us in such situation ever again.", I chide her softly.

"Yes, ma'am, I understa-", she was interrupted by a little growl from her stomach.

I felt a small smile form on my face as she pouts at me with embarrassment. "Emily, I'm hungry, I haven't eaten anything." she said in a small voice.

"Alright, I'll make you something." And that was all it took her to cheer up. I went to the kitchen to make her some toast with apple sauce, a banana and some almond milk. I had a feeling that I need to make some more, so I did, and I went back to her, and saw Uncle Mike there as well.
