"Your grades are out, I'll announce the top three in the class, the rest can check there grades on the list that will be put on the notice board"

In the class, the chunin teacher stood in front of the students, holding a clipboard in his hands, about to announce the collective grades of students in last two year.

"I hope I get picked by Lord Third"

"Dream on, It will be me"

The kids were excited, all eagerly waiting for the result to be announced, hopes for being taken as a student by third hokage high.

The two year time frame given by the hokage had passed, everyone knew that whether they will get picked or not dependent a lot on this announcement.

"In the theoretical exam, the student who took the third place is Senju Tsunade"

"At the second place is Orochimaru and the first one.... is Kawano Naoki"

Said the Chunin teacher, obvious emotion on his face, his eyes tracing towards the back of the class, a figure with brown hair and black pupils sitting quietly.

The other students also had surprised expressions, looking at Naoki like they had seen a ghost, the person with low presence in the class turned out to be so hidden.

"Damn Naoki!! I would have sat next to you in theory exam if I knew you were so capable"

Yelled Jiraiya who sat next to Naoki, a hint of regret in his tone.

"Even better if you had studied"

Said Naoki giving Jiraiya a side eye, even after knowing the result of theoretical exam result, not much change on his face.

Theory was the only thing that didn't require talent, with his mental age if he can't even beat children, he should kill himself.

"Well~ not that he didn't deserve this"

Tsunade had an unwilling look on her face, but knew herself that the grades were fair, in these two years she had never seen Naoki slacking off, going to library everyday.

She was far behind him in terms of discipline.

Orochimaru didn't say anything, but the eyes he looked at Naoki were different from the past, surprise in them, he had blind confidence of taking the first place but this was truly unexpected.

Saying that the chunin teacher put the clipboard under his pits and walked out of the class, for a moment pin drop silence in the class.

Wow!!!

"Who would've thought this!!?"

"Amazing!!"

But the silence was short lived, the class soon erupting, all the kids left completely flabbergasted by the grades.

Someone ordinary without any sign of improvement suddenly takes such a big leap, for anyone it was a big surprise.

"Good, the grades are all with in expectations, hard work never goes in vain"

Naoki wasn't much surprised at his grades, as every subject was graded just like he had expected.

His Ninjutsu Proficiency was just slightly above average, similar to Jiraiya so he tied with him at that, successfully reaching the level which would enter Hokage's eye.

For Kunai and shuriken throwing exam and hand sign printing exam, it was exactly like he had expected as well.

As his physical capabilities improved so his dynamic vision, senses, better control over his body as well.

This resulted in him acing these two exams, now the last obstacle, combat exam which he was the least worried about.

"So he isn't just a nerd after all, hmm... interesting"

Thought Jiraiya inwardly, just being good at theory would have made Naoki a nerd in his eyes but that wasn't the case after all.

His neighbour at academy had tied with him in Ninjutsu exam and had surpassed him in the rest.

Despite this there was no lack of confidence in his eyes, the upcoming combat exam was the most important after all.

If your combat sense isn't good and are unable to calmly use the skills you learned during a battle, It's all a waste then.

Tsunade and Orochimaru were surprised again as well, the emergence of two dark horse taking them by surprise, one a former average student and the other a prankster, both turning out to be not so ordinary.

The time continued to pass and soon the lunch break was over as well, all the students gathering at the playground, the combat exam about to start

At the sky, hovered an eyeball as the third hokage in office watched everything on the crystal ball in front of him.
