2 Chapter 2. Half breed baby

On a day one would swear that the sun rose from the West in East Africa, cries and exclaims overflowed in my mother's mansion, It was five hundred and ten years ago, oh yes I'm five hundred and ten years old. Trumpets blared and drums roared upon the reception of a bundle of joy in the house, my father was a jack of many talents and he was master of all, he could make people gather and celebrate just because his woman gave him a child, however vampires are basically walking dead creatures so they don't procreate, hence for him it was a miracle that had never happened before, one that needed to be celebrated by all.

"McGregor, my Lord, how did you manage to get all these people just to celebrate your daughter" asked Shara, my mother, perceptive of the unusual turn up to the unannounced party. As it was she was considered a witch, One would think she drove all the minds of those people to her mansion with her spells but even she didn't know how this came to be, however my father McGregor.

"Well, one of my many talents my love, I'm the king of vampires remember" he said, staring out the window into a beautiful starry night, "Yet I still don't understand how this miracle came to be, are you sure you're a normal being?" he asked, Shara would just smile, "Of course my lord" With his thousands of years of experience as a vampire he had absolutely grasped the power of telepathy that all vampires involved with witches or warlocks would possess, hence confirming that my mother wasn't an ordinary being, and also the question on how he got all those slave trade and African people to join hands and celebrate the birth of his daughter.

"Do you have to go McGregor?" Shara asked expectantly, he pulled down the blinds and walked towards his daughter's cot, I was so tiny. "I know you'll take good care of her, even if I'm not here" he said.

"Won't you take me with you McGregor?"

"We've talked about this Shara, I can't, I will be checking on you from time to time" he promised, but he never lived to his promise, maybe he died, how would Shara know? After all the slave ships had set off, mother received a letter from one of the mansion's servants; her name was Annika, telepathically sent by McGregor to hand it to her. It was a farewell note also extending gratitude to my mother for giving him a child, something he never thought possible after thousands of years of life. It also had guidelines on how to prevent her daughter from being a savage vampire, but it was only theoretical, a theory he concluded with a fellow vampire who was more into science. If there was to be by any chance a half breed vampire human, the curse of feeding on human blood wouldn't be as powerful as it is on a normal vampire unless she feeds for a first time, so she had to make sure I don't. As I grew up she cast a hemophobia spell on me, I became so afraid of the sight of blood at times I would vomit when someone bled in my presence; however my own blood didn't affect me. Mother kept Annika close to her and Annika fell in love with one of mother's bodyguards, Karan, she freed both of them from McGregor's mind tampering telepathy so as to establish real trust between them.

Annika and Karan became more of friends to mother than servants. They lived with me for as long as they could, they were practically family. They even had a daughter, and they named her Nadia, I treated her as my sister as she grew up at some point in time we both looked twenty, but I watched her grow older and more mature as I remained the same young girl she grew up with.

It was only a matter of time till people around found out about me not aging and one evening when Nadia and I were coming from a water well, the mansion as on fire and a dark thick cloud rose covering the whole sky, noises could be heard from a distance as the arsonists celebrated an anticipated victory however, I was still very much alive, everything that my mother had left us, burned down to ash, Nadia cried, Apparently Annika and Karan were inside to fool the people and protect us, and poor Nadia, she sobbed so bitterly, I could only hold her close to keep her calm. Her own parents had just sacrificed their lives for mine and I instantly felt indebted to her.

I had only discovered some of my vampire powers, like super speed and I could run to the mansion but Nadia stopped me, "it's too late" she cried, and insisted we run for my life as this was inevitable, but most surprisingly she mentioned nothing about her own life as if protecting me was a sworn duty.

"How about Naledi, who was she?" Terrence asked quite curiously, I took a little time before responding reflecting on all that Naledi and I went through to protect ourselves from a large number of African villages and the from which I had only a handful of places to hide.

"She was Nadia's daughter, the last friend I ever had, and daughter since Nadia couldn't make it past childbirth" I responded, and turned to face Terrence, what I saw in him was probably what McGregor saw in Shara, for some reason I was letting myself in on his plan of wanting me to stay over for the day, I wouldn't mind since I was off duty from work for the month, even my phones were off, I needed my rest, all of it. "You're probably my next friend after the two of them" I cried. I looked at him, affectionately, he returned the gaze. In my mind was a sequel of dry questions, lord of all being if he felt for me what I was starting to feel for him.
