1 Aegean Sea

" Ancient Greece was at its economic best between the 5th and the 4th centuries BC..."

The lecture continued though Ophelia was lost in a book about the great lore of the Ancient Greeks. It was easy to get away with not paying attention in class when your mother was a renowned expert in the field and your father was the professor. However, those simple facts made Ophelia stand out as a loner.

"Oh look it's teachers pet..." a harsh voice caught her attention as she was leaving History class to go the the refuge of the library. Just as Ophelia looked up from the ground she felt the thud of a shoulder into hers knocking her back and causing her to drop her school books.

Ophelia was delicate in comparison to the brutish girl who was intent on making her as isolated as possible. Meg had a stocky build and mousy brown hair that was forever thrown in a pony tail. Her eyes showed nothing but delight as Ophelia bent down to retrieve her books. Ophelia on the other hand was petite in stature with pale skin indicative of her time spent hiding in the rows of books in the campus library. Her emerald eyes always showed a spark of mystery and her pink lips in an unmoving line of stubborn indifference to the bullying she received.

Meg laughed one last time as she knocked the books out of Ophelia's hands again before turning to go to her next class. Ophelia sat on the ground as the hallways emptied and ran her hands through her copper tresses. A look of defeat stained her face as she gathered her books once more and headed to the library. Thank the gods for extended study halls granted to her by her grades and extra credits earned from some of the many schools she attended.

"Good morning miss Ophelia how is my favorite student today?" Miss Truman stated cheerfully. As a campus librarian in a world that relies much to much on technology Miss Truman treated each student who entered the library as her favorite student.

"I'm fine Miss Truman, and you?" Miss Truman looked at Ophelia eyes and let out a small sigh.

"You shouldn't let them bully you just because your father works here.. I've left a interesting book on Greek mythos in your spot. No need to check it out or return it. This ones a gift."

With that Ophelia nodded in appreciation and went to settle in to the darkest and quietest corner of the library. Setting her backpack down with a thud she curled up into the large cozy chair away from the others and picked up the book.

"Creatures of Greece.." she turned the leather book over in her hands, the beautiful gold lettering glinting in the harsh lights of the library. She cracked open the cover and got lost in the beautiful artwork and stories of the magical creatures that were said to have inhabited Greece. This side of history was everything her parents hated and everything Ophelia loved. Soon she fell asleep in the chair at the corner of the library, the page opened to a beautiful painting of the Aegean Sea.

Her eyes shot open and panic filled her heart as she was met with the sensation of falling and the pull of the currents on her small frame. She desperately fought to claw her way up and out of that water that was now suddenly all around her. She was almost at the surface when everything went dark.

"Hey, strange girl, hello? Are you still alive?" The gruff voice of a man who could be no older then 18 shook her shoulders. His dark hair curled in little ringlets that complimented his light olive skin. Chiseled features and dark chocolate eyes that showed concern.

Ophelia opened her eyes and let out a screech. Who was this man? Why was she in water? Where is the librarian?! The man backed away and let out a small laugh at her expense.

"Well guess that proves you arnt a siren. Your not graceful and you definitely don't have a enchanting voice. I am Damon and I'd hope you'd have more manners considering I could have left you to die." He shook out his wet hair and made eye contact with the small doe eyed redhead.

"I'm.. Ophelia."
