29 Chapter 29

Freya

Mom came into the living room bewildered where I was sitting and waiting for Dad and Gabriel to return," What happened?" I asked looking at her terror-stricken face.

"Gabriel got bitten by a rogue, he is infected with the wolf venom," she replied.

I stood up with a jerk from the couch, how did that happen? I felt someone had pulled the ground from below my feet. What if something happened to Gabriel? The Venom could pose fatal to him, I hope there was an antidote for it at the clinic.

"They are taking him to the clinic, your Dad wants you to be there," Mom said.

Mom and I left for the pack-clinic, when we reached there, Gabriel had already been brought to the clinic. He was in an unconscious state, and the doctor was fussing around him.

"How is he?" I asked Dad.

"The Venom had spread in his body," Dad replied, looking at Gabriel with concern.

"Do we have the antidote?" I asked the doctor.

"We already administered him the dose but I am afraid the venom had spread. We can only pray that the antidote works," the doctor replied.

I stood beside Gabriel's bed his face had turned a shade of blue and so had his body. I placed my hand on his forehead and brushed his hair aside. His face was contorted and he looked in terrible pain. I felt someone tugging at my heart.

"What happened out there?" I asked aloud.

"The rogues attacked, it seemed like they had planned it. They were coming in groups at intervals. Before our backup reached they had caused quite enough damage," Dad replied.

"What if something happens to Gabriel? What are we going to say to his father?" I asked, wondering how his clan might react.

"I have contacted his father and he is on his way here," Dad answered.

Gabriel was a Prince and his death might cause a war between the two races. I just hoped the antidote worked on him and he recovered.

Time passed by and I stayed at Gabriel's side, everyone told me to rest for some time but I couldn't leave him. I was feeling guilty for acting cold towards him and not trusting him. He had laid down his life protecting my pack and me.

I couldn't help but regret not giving Gavriel a chance, I had been blinded by self-pity and had almost lost my mate. I was praying to God for his speedy recovery so that I could make up for him. I had known Gabriel only for a day and it felt like an eternity. So much had happened in the last day that it felt as it had been months since I met Gabriel in the woods behind my school.

The doctors assured me his condition was stable and he might wake up soon. Gabriel's father had arrived and he had been with Dad after visiting Gabriel. A which had come with him, she was a fragile-looking old lady. I had always imagined witches having dirty hair and wearing a black dress, but Dinara was anything but that.

She was wearing a white buttoned blouse on a peach skirt. Her hair was tied into a sleek bun and the most significant feature on her face was her pair of black eyes. They looked like two hollows ready to swallow anyone into their depths.

I was slumped on a chair beside Gabriel's bed engrossed in my thoughts when I noticed someone clearing their throat. I turned and looked back to find Dinara looking back at me.

"I thought we should have a chat," she smiled politely.

I sat up straight and smiled back at her, she took a few steps into the room and stopped at the foot of the bed Gabriel was lying on.

"It must be hard for you," she said, still looking at Gabriel's unconscious form.

I couldn't understand what she was referring to," Being born in a pack and not having a wolf," she cleared my doubt.

"Yes, but I have got accustomed to it," I replied.

She walked and stood on the side of the bed from across me. She looked directly into my eyes this time and I felt like someone was sucking me into the depths of those black hollows.

"When I told Gabriel about you, he was ecstatic. I had not seen him this happy in his life before," she said.

"How did you know about me?" I asked her.

"I am a witch as you know," she replied, looking at me as I was an ignorant child.

"No, I mean, did you read about me in some scriptures?" I asked her.

Dinara chuckled at my words then shook her head and said," I dreamt about you."

"Ohh," I didn't know what to say further.

"I dreamt about you when you were born," she said.

My eyes snapped at her, why did she have a dream about me at the time of my birth? I couldn't understand why these supernatural beings were dreaming about me and knew about me more than I knew about myself.

"I met someone who made a prophecy about me," I told her.

"About fire and death and having two loves? She asked.

To say that I was shocked would have been an understatement. How did she know about it?

" It was not that old man who made the prophecy, it was me, Freya," she replied.

I felt someone had sucked the breath out of my lungs. Then I remembered that the old man looked as if he was in some kind of trance and didn't remember anything that he had said to me. Was Dinara possessing him at the time he made the prophecy?

"Why did you do that?" I asked her shocked.

"I knew you were going to meet your mate that night and I wanted to warn you that he was not the only one.

I was afraid you might leave with him, and then Gabriel won't have a chance to be with you," she replied.

"But Gabriel had been stalking me for months even before I met Titus," I asked puzzled at her reply.

"Yes, and I had asked him to not reveal himself to you because I was not sure if you were the same girl I had been dreaming about," She replied.

"Then why did you make that Prophecy?" I was unable to understand what she meant.

"Because my ancestors gave me signs that you are the same girl and I didn't have much time and I was unable to contact Gabriel," she said.

"What does that prophecy mean?" I asked her.

"You will find out everything in good time, Freya. Right now, I want you to only think about Gabriel's well being. You nearly lost him today," she turned and walked towards the window.

"Gabriel isn't my only mate," I retorted annoyed at her reply.

"Titus, I hope he finds his way," she said turning to me.

What did she mean about finding his way?

"Don't you know where he is and can't you guide him?" I asked her.

"I can, but I won't Freya, you see I have sworn allegiance to King Robert and I will always do what is good for his family," she smirked or maybe I thought I imagined it.

"You want me to choose, Gabriel?"

"Isn't that obvious, love," the old woman replied, her eyes boring into mine.
