3 Daniel's Guilt

Daniel was laying down on his bed. Which was what he'd been doing for the duration of the past few weeks, other than eating and visiting Dottie at the hospital. He remembers the pain and guilt he felt, and still feels, as he heard the words "I'm sorry." come out of the doctor's mouth. Daniel hears his door open and doesn't even look to see who it is. "Daniel." A familiar voice says. "It's me, Rylan." Rylan says. Daniel sighs and says: "Go away, Rylan. I don't feel like talking to anyone." "Daniel, come on. I hate seeing you like this. What happened to the Daniel I knew?" Rylan asked. "Death, destruction, and chaos! That's what happened! NO ONE CAN STAY INNOCENT AND PLAYFUL FOREVER, RYLAN! IT'S SAD, BUT TRUE!" Daniel said as he got up from his bed, slightly angry, not at Rylan, just at the events that happened. He then continues. "I mean, look at Dottie! She's trapped inside of her own mind, right at this moment! She's not able to say anything or do anything! It should have been me, because it was all my fault! I LET EIN INTO THE CAVE, BECAUSE I WAS BEING CHILDISH!" Daniel says, almost crying. "Daniel... you couldn't have known. No one could have known." Rylan says, trying to calm Daniel down. "STILL, IT DIDN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN! BLAZE DIDN'T HAVE TO DIE! IF I HAD JUST BEEN DOING MY PART AND WATCHING THE CAVE ENTRANCE, MAYBE BLAZE WOULDN'T BE DEAD NOW, AND DOTTIE WOULDN'T BE IN A COMATOSE-LIKE STATE!" Daniel said, with tears in his eyes. Rylan then puts his hands on Daniel's shoulders. "Daniel, listen to me. You are one of the best and most kind werewolves I know, and... you made a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes." Rylan says. "Usually, not ones this big... Rylan, I lost two of my best friends in the span of a few hours." Daniel says. "There's still hope that Dottie might come out of that comatose state..." Rylan says. "It's called a forever potion for a reason Rylan, and even if she does, by some miracle, nothing will ever be the same without Blaze... Especially, since..." Daniel pauses. "Since what, Daniel?" Rylan asks, as he finally takes his hands off of Daniel's shoulders. "Dottie like LIKED Blaze, Rylan. She told me before all of this happened, and I feel like... I let her down..." Daniel says. Rylan stays silent for a moment, and then says: "Daniel... horrible things can and will happen. You can think about what you could have done to prevent them, but that won't fix anything." Rylan says. "I know, Rylan. I just feel so terrible, and Dottie doesn't even know what happened to Blaze... Because, whenever I visit her, I lie and say that everyone is okay... so she doesn't have to experience even more pain during this state." Daniel says, as a tear falls from his cheek. "I just want this nightmare to be over, Rylan. But it seems like it will never end." Daniel says. "I want it to be over too, Daniel." Rylan says, as he pats Daniel on the back. A moment passes, and Daniel shakes his head slowly. "Please just leave, Rylan. I just want to be alone..." Daniel says. "Okay, well... if you need anything, you can always call me, okay?" Rylan says. "Okay..." Daniel says. Then, Rylan gets up and walks out of Daniel's room. Daniel lays back down. Then, he just stares at the ceiling, until eventually, he falls asleep.
