3 Adapting

A day had passed after he was brought by Henrik to an inn.

He was also treated by Lillian and was even fed tasty food during his stay… He then learned many things about this place after asking the two kind people that are helping him out.

Though he couldn't answer most of their questions, they were still very kind and helped him understand this world. They are completely different from the doctors inside the laboratory.

Arial clenched his fist and moved his feet. He can now move without feeling pain as his strength is returning to him.

'Haa~ What's going on? How did I end up here?'

He was still confused about his arrival in this world. He was now able to recall that he had somehow survived the final stage of Doctor Heim's experimentation. He was promised that he would be free after completing the experiment…

Was he actually killed and this is some kind of unique heaven? Or perhaps someone managed to save him and he was brought here to live a new life?

'Ugh… Whatever… I need to at least survive here to learn the truth.'

He's aware that his sister has died after the 4th Stage of the experimentation, while his mother was also killed after the organization forcefully took Thea from her.

In short, he doesn't have a place to return to. He was initially planning to survive the experiment to plan his revenge on the organization once he's freed.

However, he couldn't do it anymore. He tried telling them about the places he knows but he didn't hear any good news.

Henrik and Lillian have never heard of Kanneos Hills or even the Skofem Town. He even mentioned the popular Primordial Gene Research Institute but they just looked at him with a confused expression.

They were unfortunately unaware of such names and places. He is not even in a republic country but in a kingdom!

Vallauris Kingdom…

He had never heard of such a name before. Henrik even kindly introduced the other countries to him but it never rings a bell. He was still clueless about how he got here.

'I've already caused too much trouble... I need to leave this place as quickly as possible…'

In truth, Arial was still a bit scared deep inside.

He's unsure why these people were helping him. Perhaps, once they realized that he also has a good body for experimentation, they might also take interest in him like how Doctor Heim did.

Once he's captured again, he might already get crazy. He didn't want to just die after surviving the inhumane experiment he had gone through…

He felt that he still deserves to live… or perhaps, his desire to live is also a part of the effects from the experiments inputted by the doctors… He can't really say…

Anyway, he only let Henrik help him since he realized that his body was also not in a good condition after falling to the trap meant for a wild boar.

Actually, the retired adventurer was also a bit surprised that he wasn't dead yet after falling from such a height. Aside from that, the hole where he fell was filled with spike traps!

Henrik can only think that he was too lucky and it wasn't really his time to die yet.

However, Arial knows that with his current body, those spikes made of wood wouldn't be able to scratch him. It is thanks to steel worms used by the doctors to forcefully refine his body.

"Ugh…"

Just recalling them made him ache a bit as he shakes his head to erase his thoughts.

Knock! Knock!

Arial looked at the door and saw Henrik entering.

Just like what he said before, the man is a retired adventurer leaving in peace within the town. He would sometimes hunt for wild animals for fun but he would mostly spend his days lazying around.

It appears that he earned tons of money during his adventuring days.

"Hey, Arial… I just spoke with Lillian… Since you don't have a place to stay, you can use one of the rooms in my house. I'm just living alone there anyway…"

Henrik said as he continued explaining how this inn is owned by Lillian… Though she didn't mind having him here for free, there would be a festival in this town and many guests from neighboring cities and villages would visit this place…

In short, he needs to vacate the room to let Lillian accommodate more customers.

Of course, Arial was fine to leave the place. Though he's unsure whether he should stay in the man's house.

"Don't worry… I'm not going to eat you…"

In the end, Arial decided to follow the man for now… He felt better already anyway.

He is also aware that he's no longer weak. He is not like before when he was taken by the organization without any way to protect himself… so it wasn't an issue for him to follow this gentleman.

'But I'm still unsure how this world works… I haven't heard any advanced technology like TV, radios, or even guns… The adventurers even hold swords and daggers as weapons… This place is weird…'

Arial thought as he followed Henrik downstairs. Because it's still too early, there are no customers at the dining area of the inn yet.

He would like to thank the kind lady but it appears that she left to buy something…

Anyway, he would think of repaying her once he learned everything he needed to survive in this world.

"Right, this is yours…" Henrik gave a small worn-out bag to Arial… Anyway, it only looks old but it doesn't seem to be dirty.

He quickly opened it and noticed his white uniform. A full-body cloth meant for test subjects… His nameplate was even still attached, Experimental Subject #247…

Now that he thinks about it, he's currently wearing a badly sewn shirt and pants. He looks like a beggar.

'At least, I didn't arrive in this world naked."

Arial shook his head and followed Henrik.

***

Two years had quickly passed and finally, he is ready to move out of town…
