Chapter 2:Day off

It was the end of the day and Marcus had gotten used to things. He had only seen Prue a few times in the day. They seemed to ignore each other for the most part. It was normal for Marcus to move to school consistently. His father would have to move to at least two countries a year. He was bound to move in four months or so. Whenever he moved somewhere he would try to make at least one contact. Only because if he was to get close, they would soon be torn apart due to moving all the time. Marcus didn't mind being alone. After all, it is what he's used to. Just like Prue and Brian, he is always being confessed to and liked by everyone. He started to move around when he was five, that was when his mother left his father. His mother was the only person in the world who loved him, or so he thought. If she really loved him, she wouldn't have left him with this monster. Marcus has spent the years alone. Most of the time he would cry himself to sleep, but now he doesn't. The beatings have gotten so bad that his pain is gone. He no longer has any feelings. For him, the beatings are as normal as breathing. After school, Marcus goes home and instantly gets thrown to the ground. Beatings were practically a part of him, nothing could make his father stop.

It was June 1st, the second day since Marcus came. Prue tried as much as possible not to make him mad, in other words, she tried to stay away from him. In art class, they were partners. Prue bit her lip as she walked across the classroom to sit by him. The art teacher, Ms Vich, was always mean. She did whatever she possibly could to make a child mad, just so she could shove it in their face that she's smarter. Ms Vich really hated Prue, only because she likes the headmaster and he rejected her many times. Prue sat next to Marcus, awkwardly, and they began to draw. The object they were to draw is a piece showing emotion. Both of them used black, grey, and white paint to draw their piece. Though they were supposed to draw any emotion, both of them chose sorrow and pain. They drew a man in chains, being pulled into darkness. The painting represented no freedom. Though neither one of them knew what was happening in their separate lives, it was clear to be similar.

After class, Marcus continued to glare and Prue continued to be separate from everyone else. They each had separate thoughts and justices. They had more in common then they thought. That day when Prue said, "Look, I know how you felt was normal after all, but that doesn't justify it." Brian has thought of ways to free him and Prue from the hell they live in. Thousands of times, but he never has the courage to stand up to his father. There have been times where Brain would stop moving altogether. Every blow would take him to the ground but on the inside, he was already there. All his emotions including pain and love were taken by the monster he called father. Prue soon learned how to apply makeup well enough to cover the bruises and scars.

One time in the winter, she lost her makeup and her father called her in sick. The whole day he was at home 'Taking care of her'. She had almost twenty bruises. He yelled the same thing to her over and over again. "Why do you have to be so bad!". Brina spent the whole day worrying about her. Every class period he took down notes for her. His mind was running and aching as he thought of how bad she must be hurting. Indeed she was, by noon, she was on the ground. She got so used to the beatings that her pain was gone. She flinched with every blow, but honestly, it stopped hurting. She would be lying on the floor. The tear trapped within her wanted to come out, but couldn't. It's hard to cry when you don't feel the pain.

When Brian got home that day, he rushed passed his father and to Prue's room. His father was in the bathroom washing the blood from his hands. When Father saw Brian sneak pass him to Prue's room, he was angry. Brian quickly opened her door and saw her lying in her corner. Every time Brian is being punished, she used to hide in this corner. Brian gave out a sigh and walked to her. He sat down next to her and hugged her. Her head was buried in her knees. Just like Prue, Brian also stopped feeling the pain, therefore he too stopped crying. This was their life, and the only thing that scared them more than life itself is the fact that they might never escape from it.

Anyway, now its June and Prue learned to keep her makeup bag hidden and she would never lose it again. It was around three in the afternoon and everyone was meeting up for their sports. Marcus went to his football meeting first, Prue went to her soccer meeting, and Brian went to his basketball meeting. Marcus tried as hard as possible to stay away from everyone, including Brian and Prue. It was normal for him to do so, being alone I mean. He always has a glare on his face. He has learned never to open up to anyone. Brian or Prue hasn't talked to him much since he got here. If they had, it was only for school or sports.
