4 Late for the hunt

I let a small sigh escape my lips, although I am the Beta of Blood Moon I am still tasked with hunting for the pack, sometimes I wish Alpha Reed would just assign a lead hunter instead of having me do it every hunt. I lightly tugged my black long sleeve, it had the letter 'B' in red, signifying I am the second in command. My black leather pants had two red Stripes running down the sides, after I made sure my training clothes had no rips or anything wrong, I pulled on my black combat boots and tied the laces tight. "Is everyone ready?" I asked the hunters through mind-link, my voice full of authority. "Yes, Beta." Rafe replied with respect, while the others sent noises of confirmation. "Meet me by the forest entrance." I said, then blocked the mind link. "November, be careful out there." Alpha Reed said linking his mind to my own. "I always am, Reed." I replied to my adoptive father before closing the connection. When I was a Cub of about twelve years old, I stumbled upon this packs territory, Alpha Reed and Luna Raven were unable to have children of their own so they took me in. Even though I am a runt, the alpha and Luna still love me like I was their own. Though, that was nine years ago.

After I left the Alphas house, I briskly walked to the outskirts of the territory. Despite my 5'0" frame, I still held my head up and drew my shoulders back in an act of confidence. I may be small, but I am the beta and I draw respect out of everyone who knows not to mess with me. "All set?" I asked my team, looking over everyone of them. Most made noises of confirmation, except one. "Where in the hell is Chase!?" I boomed, looking for the newest member of the hunting team. "Sorry for being late." The 5'10 male said non chalantly, disregarding me. "When is the beta going to get here?" He asked, looking around. "She's right here." I replied calmly, nothing to be upset about yet. He's only sixteen, but doesn't know his place even with the Alpha. "You're joking right? I can definitely beat you in everything! No wonder you were left on the outskirts of the pack. You're so small and weak you probably couldn't catch a rabbit!" Chase scoffed and the whole team gulped hard. I drew my lips back showing my sharpened teeth as a loud growl escapes my throat. "You want to see my abilities? Extra training with me for the next three weeks, along with Omega duties for a week. Keep talking and I'll tack on more. Do I make myself clear?" I said, staring into his eyes while my vocals were filled with authority and power. The male let out a whine and exposed his neck in a sign of submission. "That's what I thought." I growled out. As I walked by him, I put a few fingers to his neck as a sign of my acceptance to his submission.

"Once everyone shifts we will head out. It's already 05:30. The pack will be waking up soon." I informed, building a mind-link between everyone in the team. My bright gray eyes started to brighten to white, my 4'10" frame changed into a 2' frame. Most wolves are around three feet to three and a half feet tall, but because I am a runt I'm noticeably smaller. My black pelt was graced with some white rings my my shoulders, and chest. Now, in place of where Chase stood, was a 3'0" golden wolf, with a black muzzle and paws. Black detailing was in his fur as well as some white, his eyes changed from dark blue to bright yellow. Rafes bright green eyes darkened to a golden yellow, and his dark hair turned snow white in his wolf form. Instead of a 6'0" male was now a 3'2" wolf. His snowy pelt was detailed with light gray throughout his body. Next to Rafe was Dallas, her 5'5" blue eyed, red haired figure soon shifted to be a 3'0" orange eyed red wolf with black, brown and slight white detailing.

"Let's go." I said to my team, trotting into the forest. After about three minutes I tilted my muzzle to the air, scenting for an injured doe or buck for the pack. I was not disappointed when I picked up the scent of a herd, "I smell a herd nearby, Dallas I want you to go to the north, block them off. Rafe to the east and Chase to the left. Let me know when you are all in position." I instructed, crouching to the ground taking light steps. Thankfully, the fallen leaves, dew drops and the pine trees covered my scent nicely. I dropped my nose to the ground and scented once again, soon I found an injured doe, she seemingly broke her leg. I also spotted an anterless buck with a chunk of shoulder missing. "Chase, Rafe, do you see the anterless buck with a chunk of his shoulder missing? You two go after him while Dallas and I are going after the injured doe." I told the team, then I let out a low growl and dashed towards my target, she was laying on the ground unable to move much due to her injury. Dallas lunged forward towards our prey as I dug my Claws into her rump and bit into her back. My subordinate lunged at the does neck, but the pret swung her head whacking Dallas in the shoulder. That pissed her off, The ginger wolf growled and lunged again, successfully digging her sharp teeth into the does shoulder while I clawed at her injured leg. "You need to get back soon, we're going to have a very special visitor." Alpha Reed mind linked to me, I quickly sent confirmation down our link before blocking it off again. "Get me an opening!" I growled out to Dallas, she knew the growl wasn't directed at her though. After a few moments of struggle with the doe, Dallas clawed her throat making the prey throw her head back leaving her neck exposed for me to clamp my jaw on. The doe thrashed around for a few moments before going limp against me. "You boys need help?" I asked tauntingly, knowing Chase wouldn't like it if he had to ask me, a runt for help. "We've got it." Chase growled back. "Help me drag her." I told Dallas, nodding to the doe. We both weasled our way under her, me with ease and my partner with slight difficulty to get her laying across our backs.
