79 I should've listened

When Xi Shenghui drove in to the Juyan compound, Big Boss was already waiting outside the main building's lobby, his hands on his hips and a deep frown etched on his forehead as he gazed at the incoming car.

Ying Yue saw this scene and looked down guiltily.

The car slowed to a stop, and Xi Shenghui looked over at her with a frown. "Stop being such a brat and go apologize to him. He's been worried about you."

She nodded and hesitantly pushed the car door open. Ying Yue bit her lip as she was met with Big Boss' furious gaze that was laced with exasperation and slight relief. She didn't wait for him to reprimand her before throwing her arms around him like a little child who had her candy stolen from her. "I'm sorry. I was wrong. I didn't even find anything. I should've listened to you," she sniffed.

Xi Shenghui, who witnessed this scene when he got out of the car, rolled his eyes. Why wasn't she this sorry before she resisted him at the coffee shop and wounded some of his agents?

There was a startled look in Big Boss' eyes as he listened to Ying Yue, and he bit his tongue to suppress the words he was going to say. However, as the seconds ticked by and Ying Yue proceeded to wipe her snot on his shirt, he became increasingly annoyed as he realized that she was probably playing him for a fool again, even making a show of crying and dirtying his clothes to distract him from the fact that she should be reprimanded. "You…" he shook his head in exasperation and gently pried her off him. "You think you can just cry and get away with it?"

Ying Yue silently cursed in her head as she realized that he'd figured her out. She immediately dropped the act and gave him a sheepish smile.

"Come with me to the infirmary. You have to go apologize to the phoenix team agents you injured, and then I'll give you a piece of my mind when we get my office."

He left without another glance and she followed him with a pout.

"Big Boss…"

"Don't say anything right now. I already told you we were at a dead end and that going after that list was pointless. Did you listen to me? No. Instead, you went off on your own and even left your tracker. How selfish could you be? What if Jade Circle found out you were alone and sent people to kill you? We won't even get to find your dead body!"

Ying Yue's pout hitched even higher with every word that he was spouting until her mouth looked like an upturned hook. Anyone could practically hang a teapot on her lips. She already said she was sorry, and she even came back empty-handed. Couldn't he go a little bit easier on her? After all, her pride was wounded and she even lost out on M-8927.

"And did you even find anything? Of course not."

She rolled her eyes and didn't say a word. She was already deflated enough as it is. Did he really have to rub that in, too?

He took her to the infirmary, where she bowed pitifully to the men she injured and said her apologies. A couple of scratches she didn't realize she had were also treated and she had herself dried in the blow room. When everything was said and done, Big Boss finally led her to his office. She prepared herself for a whole round of angry lectures from the man.

But when they got to the door, Big Boss just shoved her forcefully inside and closed the door behind her. Because inside the office, sitting on the armchair with his hands together and one leg crossed over the other, was Fei Huangjin, looking like a modern emperor of some historical movie.

Only this time, he didn't look like the usual neat Fei Huangjin she saw in the office. This man had stubble grazing his jaw and shadows under his eyes, like he hadn't been sleeping well since she left.

"Uh…" Ying Yue looked away as guilt flooded through her, making her squirm under his sharp eyes. Did he come here for her? Was he going to berate her too for disappearing?
