26 I am making dinner

"Yes, sir. That's what--"

He ended the call and dialed Ying Yue's phone. She wasn't picking up. "Shit."

He called her again, pacing his study. Why did Jade Circle want her? Had she spied on them before? Was she spying on Fei International now?

This time, she answered on the third ring.

"Mr. Fei?" Ying Yue's voice punctured through the phone, sounding surprised. She had just got in her apartment and was preparing dinner for herself when she noticed her phone ringing.

Fei Huangjin sat back down, relieved to hear her voice. "Did anything happen to you today?"

Ying Yue rolled her eyes. It was obvious he just had her investigated. Otherwise, why would he ask that?

"Are you concerned about me, Mr. Fei?" She had just decided to take on being Fei Huangjin's girlfriend to protect herself and now he was calling her. It was a bit ironic, really. She wasn't going to tell him that tonight, though.

She had been so pissed off at him during their conversation in the car. If she didn't pretend to muddle over it, he'd probably know something was up.

He began to relax. It seemed that Jade Circle hadn't found her yet.

"Didn't I tell you to call me Huangjin?" A corner of his mouth turned up. To him, it sounded a lot like she was flirting.

"Okay," she paused, making sure she would sound seductive over the phone. She had to get used to this if she was getting into a relationship with him. "Huangjin…"

The way she said his name sent goosebumps to the man, and he adjusted himself in his seat. He must have been truly deprived of women to be excited over this. To think about it, it seemed like he hadn't even touched a woman in years.

He was glad she had calmed down and was talking to him reasonably right now. Earlier that afternoon, he felt like she was going to quit her job if he pursued the topic of dating even further.

He cleared his throat, "What are you doing?"

"Right now?" She looked at the broccoli she had taken out of the refrigerator and the knife on her right hand. She clipped her phone against her left shoulder and started chopping the broccoli to pieces. "I am making dinner."

He glanced at his watch. It was almost nine in the evening. "You haven't had dinner yet?"

"I fell asleep," she lied.

"You should have had dinner with me."

"I wanted to think about it."

"So have you thought about it?" Fei Huangjin ran a hand through his hair. If Jade Circle was after her, it might have something to do with her being an agent in Juyan, but Juyan couldn't protect her. He could.

Ying Yue chewed on her bottom lip, purposely delaying her answer. "Why don't we talk about it tomorrow?" He could take a little suspense, couldn't he?

"Okay." He could hear her cooking in the background and suddenly, an image of Ying Yue wearing an apron and cooking for him appeared in his head. "What are you cooking right now?"

"Beef with broccoli." She grinned, turning over the beef on the pan and adding the broccoli. She knew he liked anything that had to do with beef. "Want some?"

Fei Huangjin sat up. "Is that an invitation to come over?"

Ying Yue snickered silently. She really didn't understand what made her so attractive to the man. "Actually, no. I only asked out of courtesy. Besides, haven't you already eaten?"

"I haven't eaten your cooking before." He pointed out.

"There wasn't a reason for that before." She smirked.

He grinned. "But now there is one, right?"

"What could you possibly mean?" She turned off the electric stove and transferred her meal to a plate.

Fei Huangjin didn't want to push her too far. He knew she was still hesitating with going out with him. "I'm not pressuring you, okay?"

She smiled.

Fei Huangjin was unapproachable and always yelling at people at work, and he had particular preferences that he refused to compromise. But now that she was giving him a chance, who knew that she'd actually find Fei Huangjin quite… nice?

"I'll see you tomorrow at work, Huangjin. I still have to eat and take a shower."

Fei Huangjin's face warmed up as Ying Yue's words made him think about her getting into the shower. And the next thing he knew, she had put down the phone without him realizing it.

Damn it. This woman, really…
