220 But you promised

"Hubby, you said I can rely on you, right?" Ying Yue pouted, looking a bit pitiful. "Promise me you'll help me." Her helpless look tugged at Fei Huangjin's heart, and a feeling of protectiveness surged inside him, threatening to spill over and take over her.

Of course, he would help her. "I promise. Now what is it?" His hand came up to tuck her hair behind her ears, allowing him to look at her properly. The dark circles under her eyes were still there, no matter how lively she pretended to be. He made a mental note to let her rest beside him after this conversation. The hospital bed was big enough for two people anyway.

"Huangjin, hubby," Ying Yue bit her lip and lowered her lashes. "The Juyan agent assigned for my protection… Xi Shenghui…"

Fei Huangjin's face darkened. What about him?

"He's unconscious in this hospital. He doesn't have any relatives; Big Boss is gone; and the medical staff are prohibiting me from visiting him because I'm not a family member." She held up a finger for every point she made. "Can you-- could you pull some strings for me?"

His brows sunk deeper with every word she spoke. The hand he used to tuck back her hair was now balled up into a fist. "Why?"

She could tell that acting coquettish wasn't working, and that he was about to refuse. Ying Yue decided to shift tactics, going for a more aggressive approach. "Huangjin, Xi Shenghui is a friend. And he was assigned to protect me. Unfortunately, I heard he had a car accident last night and he's still unconscious. Last night, he drove me home, and then he said he had to rush back to Juyan. The car accident's timing is too perfect. I'm sure it was because of me!"

His pupils constricted slightly. "So what if it's because of you? He's job is to protect you anyway. He's aware of the dangers that await him. More importantly, the hospital is right; you're not his family member. Also, aren't you here in the hospital for me? I'm your family. Why are you visiting someone else? Can't you see my gunshot wound and my weak physical state? I just came out of a grueling operation, and now you want to leave me and stay by someone else's side? Ying Yue, am I that insignificant to you?"

She suppressed the urge to roll her eyes and loosened her hold on his neck with a sigh.

This man actually dared to call himself in a "physically weak state" while he goes off and strongly argues with her. If she didn't know any better, she'd probably think he was just acting out his injury rather than actually suffering from it. "But you promised!"

"I promised to help you-- not help him!"

"That doesn't make any sense!" They looked at each other intently until she sighed. I guess I won't be able to tell him about Shenghui's hospital bills right now, she thought. "Huangjin, you're being insecure."

He narrowed his eyes at her. Insecure? He, the great Fei Huangjin -- the young master of the Fei family, the CEO of Fei International, the mountain master of the Dragon Club -- insecure? "I suggest you look up the meaning of the word and get back to me on that. I doubt there's any part of me that comes close to insecurity."

She cocked her head to one side. "Well then, if you're not being insecure, are you being jealous?"

Fei Huangjin's lips thinned. "I know no such thing. We will not discuss this any further." He pressed the bed controls until it shifted into a less elevated position. Then, he scooted to the side and beckoned her over. "Come here!"

Ying Yue squinted, mildly suspicious of his actions. He wasn't going to try anything funny while they were at the hospital, was he? After all, the doctor said they shouldn't do any 'activities' for the time being.

Seeing that she wasn't responding, and that he might have made her too unhappy, he changed his tone to a gentler voice. "Come here. You need to rest."

She blinked a few times and considered it.

Well, now that he'd mentioned it, her body was getting quite heavy at the moment, and she felt like she'd fall asleep the moment her head would hit a pillow. Ying Yue reluctantly climbed under the covers with him, making sure she wasn't touching any part of his right chest. And then she snuggled up to him, his warmth enveloping her like a lullaby.

It felt safe, comfortable, and familiar.

She missed this. She missed his presence. She missed sleeping next to him. She missed her husband.

Her eyelids became heavier as the seconds ticked by, and before she knew it, she was thrown into a deep sleep -- with Fei Huangjin by her side, caressing her hair.
