18 His One-sided Love (I)

Seeing the man walking closer to her, Yan Xiaoran immediately retreated backward and looked at him dubiously.

Her eyes were filled with apprehension and caution.

"Mister, do I know you?" Yan Xiaoran asked.

When he heard her say those words, Alexander Qu paused in his stride and looked at her face as if he was searching for something from her face.

'Did she really forget about me?' Alexander  Qu thought and could hear his heart shattering, however, his face didn't show any emotions as he continued to gaze at her.

The two of them should meet at the Majestic Ball, but unfortunately, Yan Xiaoran disappeared from the party even before they could meet.

As far as he knew, Yan Xiaoran should be under his grandfather's care after her release from prison. So, why was Yan Xiaoran out when the night was late?

Did something happen?

Looking at her wet hair and tired look, Alexander Qu was distressed at her situation.

How could he not feel anything when the woman he had a one-sided love for a long time was running on the road with speeding cars passing through and a man chasing after her?

He tried to open his mouth but the word he wanted to say was caught in his throat and he had to do his best to clear it to talk to her.

He offered her a smile and said, "We missed the chance to meet, Miss Yan." Not allowing her to speak, he continued as he offered his hand for a handshake, "I am Alexander Qu, your fiance."

Yan Xiaoran: "....…"

She blinked, lost for words.

Didn't Robert Qu tell him that she rejected the proposal? Yan Xiaoran frowned and swallowed hard to talk about this matter.

However, she couldn't raise the matter she suddenly remembered that a madman was chasing after her.

She ignored his outstretched hand and instead pulled him in panick to get to the car before the madman could come to their side.

Once the two of them were inside the car, Yan Xiaoran sighed in relief.

"Are you alright?" Alexander asked her, his tone was gentle and pleasant to the ear that it almost choked the person on the driver's seat.

With bulging eyes, Xiao Gui used the rearview mirror to look at his boss who was trying to talk to the young woman beside him in the passenger. He was extremely petrified at this boss he was seeing right now.

Since when did his boss become so gentle to the fair gender!

Did his boss just use a kind tone to speak to that woman? Xiao Gui wanted to clean his ear again and prove that he wasn't just hearing things.

Who was his boss anyway? He was Alexander Qu, a man that was everything but good!

With a handsome face and tall stature, women would always stalk him and chase after him, expecting him to love them back and maybe, become the future Mrs. Qu.

However, not once had Xiao Gui saw his boss taking a woman to his car or his house, or even glance at their way. And rumor has it that Alexander Qu swings to the other side that's why he never looked at any woman that fancied him.

This was also the reason why his grandfather, Robert Qu had painstakingly looked for a suitable lady for him to marry. However, Alexander pushed them all away and threw them to the side, never even making eye contact with them.

There was even one time that a woman tried to get on his bed, however, that woman's ending wasn't too good as she was kicked away and the people behind her suffered the consequences.

Even the housemaids and servants in his mansion were fired for letting a strange woman come into his house.

With no other choice, Robert Qu who was desperate to make his grandson marry and have a family of his own chose an ex-convict to become his granddaughter-in-law.

Everyone expected Alexander Qu to have a similar reaction as he had in the past, but who would have thought that he willingly accepted the woman his grandfather found.

No one knew the reason why he suddenly agreed but Robert Qu was happy and didn't care whether his grandson finally agreed to his request after several tries and thought that maybe Alexander was getting tired of grandfather's insistence for him to get married.

Xiao Gui continued to mull over this and couldn't wait to talk about this with his friends who were also employed under Alexander.

On the other hand, Yan Xiaoran was uncomfortable with how gentle Alexander was to her. After she ditched him in the party and didn't show up, Yan Xiaoran expected that he would be angry at her and would personally end his grandfather's lunacy to make both of them marry.

However, the man beside her was looking at her too much care that it was hard to look back at him.

Clearing her throat to catch his attention, Yan Xiaoran said, "I'm alright… Uh… I'm sorry about earlier and the last night." She took a pause to look at his reaction and expected him to get angry, but unexpectedly, a gentle look was spread across his face.

Seeing her being conscious of his reaction, a gentler smile was on his face as he shook his head and reached out to pull her hands to which she avoided.

Slightly saddened at her rejection, Alexander looked at his hands that were on the air and retracted it, "It's alright. There will be always a time for us to get closer."

Yan Xiaoran confusingly stared at him and was speechless.
