8 Love & Silly

I slowly turn my head to the right where the voice came from to see the one and only Adrian Price, standing there with his hands tucked into his pockets, in his full glory, his black shirt, his blue eyes like mine: that's another thing I love, we have the same eye color. His dark hair, pink lips and he's literally 3 feet away from me. I can't believe it, he's right there finally staring at me, finally noticing me, finally waiting for me to speak.

Wait.

Oh shit. He's waiting for me to say something.

"Uh.." I trail for a second, fumbling with the Campeek! flyer in my hands. "Yes?"

He frowns at me then smiles, "You should come for the camping trip, instead of crushing it with your hands." He says as he gestures to the flyer in my hands.

I chuckle nervously as I suddenly grew hot, "Oh that." I murmur then I think about what I said about getting Madison into an accident. Did he hear that?

"You should come, it's really fun. I've heard a lot of stories about the camp, it'll be really worth your time." He says.

God I love the way he speaks. And this can be my chance, once again; a God sent. No Madison, no Ben, no classes yet, my chance! I decide to put myself together and speak to him like a normal person.

"Oh she can't come for Campeek." But Jenny beats me to it.

"Why? You really hate it that much?" Adrian asks.

I open my mouth to speak but Jenny continues talking. "Hmm, not that, it's just that…" She trails and I'm still struggling to enter into the conversation. "She's a s—"

"—Scamp!" I yell, cutting Jenny off and causing Adrian to look at me, which makes my heart flutter. I've never had his attention on me before.

"Scamp." He states with a frown. "You're a scamp." He raises his eyebrows.

Dear God, I hope scamp doesn't mean anything stupid.

"Scamping… I'm a scamping person." I add.

"Scamping?" Jenny questions.

"Yes." I nod my head, still staring into Adrian's mesmerizing blue eyes with my blue ones. "I get super excited during camping activities which could be extremely dangerous to the surrounding environment." I say with a straight face.

"Umm," Adrian scrunches up his face –which is still a beautiful sight, by the way- trying to make sense of what I just said. "I don't think that's a thing."

I chuckle nervously. "If it wasn't a thing I wouldn't say it, right?"

He chuckles lightly, "I guess so."

A voice interrupts.

"Adrian!" We all look over to see Madison about 7 feet away from us, holding a paper up. "I'm going on Campeek! just filled the paper."

"That's great." Adrian replies. Madison walks off again with the Principal and suddenly I feel so small again.

She's going.

"Well it's a total bummer you're a scamping person-" okay, it does sound weird. "and can't come. It'd have been fun." He says as he begins walking away.

I have to do something.

"Um Adrian?" I call and he turns back to me.

"Yeah?"

I open my mouth up but nothing comes out and he frowns at me.

I finally force the words out. "Happy Birthday, and I hope this day brings you nothing but happiness." I smile at him.

He frowns so deeply that for a moment I feel like I said something that I'm not supposed to say.

"What is it?" I ask in a small voice.

"How did you…" He trails then scoffs with a smile on. "I'm sorry, it's just that you're actually the first person to say that to me."

My eyes widen a fraction, "What?"

He further explains and I smile. Adrian's always calm and patient. He's the type of guy who can wait six hours just to explain a topic in math you're finding difficult to understand.

"I decided to keep my birthday low on the radar this year, so I didn't mention it at all. Most people are so busy with their lives that they completely forgot but you remembered."

I suddenly feel like smacking myself, now I bet he thinks I'm a freak.

"Thank you.." he trails waiting to get my name.

This is it.

"Kinsley, Kinsley Bardot." I smile at him. I like that he makes me smile.

"Kinsley." He notes. "That's a really unique name. Thank you for the Happy birthday."

And thank you mum and dad for the rare ass name.

With one last smile, he walks away.

"Oh my. I'm so happy for you. That was your first conversation with Adrian." Jenny squeals beside me.

"We're going on Campeek!" I state.

"I knew just saying happy birthday would get him to notice you." Jenny continues to say excitedly.

"Didn't you just hear me say we're going on Campeek!"

"Yeah, I did. But I figured that's an aftermath of talking to Adrian and your head's all jiggled up."

"Well yeah, it is but we are going for Campeek!"

Jenny stops smiling at me and gives me a look. "Kinsley we're sophomores remember?"

"So? We could always say that we're Juniors. We can go."

"No we can't."

"Yes we can."

"Our names are written as Sophomores in the school's record book so no we can't go on the camping trip."

"Yeesh, with that attitude we can't go." I eye her. "But why are you being like this? You love Campeek!."

"Yes, I do. But I don't want to cheat and lie my way into getting there."

"It's not cheating or lying, it's just going."

"We can't go on Campeek!"

"Gosh, why are you being so pessimistic? You were being optimistic just 8 minutes ago, why you being a pessimist right now?"

She looks into my blue eyes with her hazel brown ones with a frown on her face then she laughs. "Did you just learn the meaning of that word?"

I smile. "Yeah I did, I took your advice. Since I felt like I did something bad, I took my dictionary and updated my vocabulary last night."

That's one of the benefits of being best friends with Jenny Scott- the smartest girl I've ever known. But me on the other hand, I never really liked studying so Jenny takes it upon herself to fix in times I can study on a daily basis. For maths, we have to sit down on Wednesday nights and study. When it comes to English, she made a rule to study the dictionary any time I feel like I've done something bad -which is frequent, by the way. So now, it's become a habit. Whenever something's bothering me, I subconsciously pick up the dictionary. It has great effects though.

"That's great." Jen smiles.

Then my face hardens. "We are going on Campeek!"

"You want to go on Campeek!?" A voice says out of no where causing me to jump.

"Fuck." I mutter. "Damn it Benji! Would you stop following us around?"

"I can get you into Campeek!" Benji offers.

"Don't worry about it Benji, Kinsley and I aren't going anywhere."

"But I can do it, remember my dad's the gym teacher and is in charge of Campeek! this year. I know it wouldn't be a problem getting us sophomores in."

Jackpot. How could I forget Benji's father? I need to go on Campeek! It's my only chance with Adrian, at Camp there will be no classes to separate us, we'll do all of the activities together.

"Yeah that's right. Benjamin Sprayberry." I call out, remembering his father's name.

He shakes his head, "That's not my last name."

"Alright Benji do what you have to do." I say.

He nods and walks away.

I turn to Jen and smile big at her.

"Wow. We're actually going on Campeek!?" Jenny asks.

"Yes we are,"

"But please tell me you're not doing this because of Adrian or because of Madison." Jenny pleads.

I look her in the eyes. "No, I'm not."

She doesn't know but I know that's 100% a lie. That's the whole point of going on Campeek! to shoot my shot; try to get Adrian to notice me, make him like me and get my first kiss from my first love- every girl's dream.

But I seem to have forgotten about that guy who ruined my birthday present plans on Friday because he turned everything around and I haven't yet realized how much he influenced my life with his little presence that midnight.

The school bell rings and Jenny and I walk to our first class of the day- History.

As we enter, the class is filled with loud chatter since the teacher isn't here yet. I quickly scan round for an empty seat I can settle in - preferably at the back - before Jen forces me to sit in front.

"Hey Jenny Babe! Come sit with me, I reserved a seat just for you!" Benji yells from the back, gesturing to an empty chair beside him.

The teacher chooses the worst moment to enter because the whole class silences and Benji's words can be heard clearly, putting Jenny in bare ass embarrassment.

The whole class stares between Benji and Jenny for a moment, some giggle mockingly at them, "Oh no..." Jen trails in a dreadful voice.

"Everyone take a seat!" The teacher orders.

I'm about to run to the back but he stops me.

"Miss Bardot I'll like you to seat in front today. And Miss Scott you can go seat with Benji at least that will shut him up through out this class."

I quietly settle in my seat. Like I said, he chose the worst moment to enter but nothing can ruin my mood today because I finally spoke to him.
