10 Dee Driving Drama

SUNDAY. 2:45 PM.

He steps forward but I stay rooted in my spot, to show him that I am not easily intimidated. "I should ask you those exact same questions because last I checked, you were a sophomore. Shouldn't you not be here since it's a Sunday?"

I lift up my hand in a pause motion to stop him from speaking and it works. "You have no right to speak to me especially after what you did on Friday." I fold my arms. "Wait, why were you even at my school that night, are you homeless?"

I look him up and down. He doesn't look homeless in his dark green hoodie and black jeans with his hair in a nice, slightly messy cut.

"Why are you going on Campeek!?" He asks with a serious face.

I ignore him.

"You owe me 600 dollars you know, it cost me a lot that you destroyed those presents."

"I like that I destroyed it because what you were doing was worthless and stupid."

I scoff. "So you're calling me worthless and stupid? Damn, you sure do have guts."

"I'm not the one who called herself a scamp—" He quickly cuts himself off and I frown.

Wait…

He quickly clears his throat, shoves his hands into his pockets, "Just answer me." He pauses and I continue staring at him. How does he know about my conversation with Adrian? "Why are you going on this trip?"

He's still at that? One thing I have noticed is that he is persistent. I lift my hand up once again. "That's none of your business."

He scoffs with a small smile playing along his lips as he looks elsewhere.

"Look here. I am giving you the chance to run away now, before I report you to the Principal or the teacher in charge of this trip." I say with an edge to my voice.

He smirks but I can see a bit of annoyance in his eyes. "Feel free to do that because I go to this school."

I blink. Is he fucking with me right now?

He looks over my shoulder and his jaw tightens. "You know what?" He asks as he looks back at me. "You don't need to say anything," He pauses then smiles at me. "Because I can see it clearly now, the answer to that question is right behind you."

What?

He takes a step back from me. "I hope you have a nice Campeek! Kinsley." He walks past me.

I stand there for a moment.

He goes to Brice Worth? But that doesn't make any sense. I quickly turn around to call him so that I can ask him exactly why he was at school that day but as soon as I turn around, I see Adrian and Madison behind me and I gasp. I guess that's what he meant by, 'the answer to that question is right behind you'. I watch as Adrian moves to the back seat and pulls out their luggage and my chest goes heavy. What's up with me? I had made a promise to not feel so low when Adrian and Madison show up together. I had expected it and prepared for it but I still feel the panging ache in my chest. Jealousy?

"What the hell?"

I snap my head to the left to see Benji and Jenny walking towards me with surprised looks.

"Why were you speaking to him?" Benji asks me with a frown.

I shake my head a little, trying to clear out my thoughts, "I don't even know the answer to that." I turn to Jenny. "But Jen, that's the guy who destroyed Adrian's birthday present." I whine.

"You got Adrian a birthday present?" Benji asks with wide eyes and I shoot him a look.

"See. I never tell you things, you just happen to be around to hear them." I say to him.

"Wait are you so sure he's the one? I mean, what would he be doing at school 2 in the morning?" Jenny asks as she stares at the path freak ass Friday dude took with a surprised expression. I frown slightly, she uses the word 'he' like he's some kind of important person.

Benji's eyes bulges out again. "You guys were at school 2 AM in the morning?"

I sigh. "Benji leave."

"Yes, please Benji leave." Jenny backs me up.

He shoots me a nasty look then finally walks past me.

Jenny takes a step forward to get closer to me, "You sure he's the one?"

"Yes. I remember his annoying face!" I groan in frustration. "We should file a police report, I think he's following me. 'cause every time, he tries to ruin my chances. First, the birthday present. Now, this camping trip. Then he tells me he goes to this school?" I frown with an exasperated sigh.

"He does go to this school." Jenny says as she blinks at me.

I stare at her for a second. "What?" I throw my hands up. "Well if he does, why don't I know about it?"

"I seriously don't know how that happens."

"Damn…" I trail, dropping my head down with my eyes close as I press my hand against my forehead, feeling a headache coming up.

"But Kinsley," Jenny calls, so I lift my head to face her. "You need to know this about him."

I groan, "No I don't want to hear anything about that guy, who happens to just know everything." I frown.

"But—"

I sigh tiredly. After all, I have been waiting at this spot for an hour for Jenny to arrive. "Really Jen. I don't want to know anything, it'll just get me riled up, I'm already mad about the presents. I don't want anything to ruin this trip for me."

"But this is really important." She insists.

I hold my hand up. "Please Jenny. You can tell me about it another time. Just, right now…" I trail in a soft voice.

She exhales in defeat and looks down at her shoes. "Gosh, you're so stubborn."

I smile and intertwine my arm in hers. "Come on. Let's get into our bus."

She looks back up at me. "But they haven't called us into our busses."

"Okay guys! Pack your things and get into your busses, we are about to leave." Mr. Sprayberry calls out in a loud voice.

I shoot Jenny a smile and she chuckles at me.

Benji walks into sight from behind me. "Don't worry, Jenny babe. I'll help you with your stuff." He moves on to lift her things.

"And he's back." I say.

"Actually, he's been standing behind you the whole time." Jenny says in a guilty voice.

My eyebrows shoot up as I stare at Benji.

"And a piece of advice," He says to me with a serious face. This is actually the first time I'm seeing him so serious. "You might want to hear what Jenny has to say about him. It will save you a lot of heartbreak on this trip."

I keep my mouth shut, reasoning what he just said. Is he serious?

"Oh come on," I whine. "I'll hear it later."

~~~
After we all load our things into the bus designated to carry our stuffs to the reserve we are having the camping trip, it left almost immediately. We all got into our respective busses, the turn up for this Campeek! is actually impressive, to the extent that the school had to provide three busses: Bus A, Bus B and Bus C. Jenny and I are currently in Bus B, seated beside each other after I made such an effort to move Benji away from her.
I readjust in my seat trying to get comfortable. The bus had three seats on the left side for five rows and two seats on the right side for five rows and one last seat at the back. Jenny and I are on the left side, well I made that decision because of Benji, always trying to steal her from me.
People start to chatter as they enter into the bus, taking their desired seats.
"Good afternoon guys." A buffy, late thirties looking guy with small light blonde hair walks into the bus and everyone shuts up. "I'm going to be your driver for this Camping trip. So make sure to put your seatbelts on—"
Jenny immediately fastens her seatbelt and I inwardly sigh. Oh my God.
"—seat tight and feel comfortable because it's going to be a 5 hour drive to get to Lucky reserve, where you'd be having this year's Campeek! Cooperate with me and I'll drive you safely, you guys can have fun but I hate disturbances so try to behave at least." He says with a neutral face and he's about to turn away from us but returns back with a smile on his face. "Oh and before I forget, my name's Dee."
Someone chuckles loudly and of course it's Ben. "Dee? What kind of punk ass name is that?" He laughs and some other guys snicker alongside him.
I give him a hard glare even if he can't see me.
Benjamin.
We have two Benjamin at our school, so we decided to differentiate them by giving them separate names. Benji's popular and that's because he has his way with the ladies– he's the player kind. Ben– popular because… he does crazy things. He just does crazy things. We named Sophomore Benjamin, Benji and Junior Benjamin, Ben.
I look back at Dee to see his straight face still on. "See that?" He points at Ben. "That is the kind of attitude that makes me want to drive this bus off a bridge."
"What?" Jenny whispers to me, I can already hear the fear in her voice. The whole bus starts whispering.
I turn to Jen. "He's just joking."
"No, I'm not." Dee turns to give me a hard look.
I frown at him.
Dee walks to the driver's seat and the bus starts moving.
