Chapter 3: the first quest unveiled

Chapter 3 the first quest unveiled

The next day, Tristan woke up to find himself sprawled on the floor, feeling groggy and sore all over. He struggled to piece together the events of the previous night, but his pounding headache made it difficult to think straight. Slowly, he managed to hoist himself up and gingerly touched his head, hoping to find some answers.

"No blood, but why does my head hurt so bad?" he muttered, perplexed by the pain. As he examined himself further, he realized that his head seemed fine, which brought a slight sense of relief.

Heading over to his desk, Tristan reached for his glasses, absentmindedly forgetting that he hadn't finished fixing them yet. As he put them on, an unsettling feeling washed over him. His vision seems blurry, and he couldn't understand why. Thinking it might be an issue with the glasses, he took them off, gave them a thorough cleaning, and tried them on again. But to his dismay, his vision remained just as blurry as before.

So he decided to take them off again.

After taking off his glasses, Tristan realized that his vision was better but blurry when he put them back on. Filled with excitement, he hurried to his desk, grabbed a pencil, and rushed to his sketch board. With a surge of inspiration, he drew the first letter of the English alphabet.

Eager to test his newfound vision, Tristan stepped back and examined the letter without his glasses. To his astonishment, it was crystal clear! He couldn't believe his eyes.

"What!, How! I can really see properly. What is happening?" He thought about the possible answer.

Although Tristan couldn't find an immediate answer, he was overjoyed. The thought of being able to see properly without his glasses was something he never imagined possible. It was a moment of pure happiness for him.

As Tristan reflected on the events of the previous day, vivid images of the box melting and disappearing flashed in his mind. The box became the focal point of his thoughts.

Tristan's heart raced as he remembered something out of the blue. "Wait a minute, what was inside that mysterious box?" he muttered, rubbing his forehead. "No wonder I had such a pounding headache!"

His mind raced as he realized that the crystal gem had also fallen out of the box. Tristan searched frantically around the room, but the gem was nowhere to be found. "Could it be that the thing that hit me on my forehead was the crystal gem after all?" he wondered.

As he pondered the situation, Tristan suddenly heard a voice, sending shivers down his spine. It sounded strangely familiar, as if he had heard it before he passed out. "What in the world was that? It sounded like some kind of AI or system," he exclaimed.

Just as he mentioned the word "system," a system interface appeared right in front of his eyes. It displayed options like "[Host Attributes]","[Skills and Abilities]","[Quests]"and even a "[Store/Shop]". The voice continued, "You can summon the system interface anytime you want, just by calling it!"

After hearing that, he had some ideas on how it works, so he call out host Attributes .

[Host Attributes]

Tristan look at the information provided and thought " why did this thing look like an old gaming system?"

Tristan did not think too much about it, he called out "[skills and abilities]"

The Host Attributes panel change to skills and abilities

[Skills and Abilities]

-"[Points:0]"

-"[Water: level 1 ]"

-"[Regeneration: level 1]"

-"[the rest are locked]"

Tristan was surprised, he thought to himself " I now have a level 1 water ability and level 1 Regeneration " but why are the rest locked.

"this thing really looks like those old-school games people used to play "

He noticed that he didn't have any points for skills and abilities, so he wondered how to earn them. But for now , he was excited to explore more and so he decided to called out the "[Quests]" panel. The "[Skills and Abilities]" change to "[Quests]".

[Quests]

- "[Daily Quest: Complete the first quest to unlock]".

- "[Weekly Quest: Complete 7 successful daily quests to unlock]".

After going through the task, Tristan felt the last one was weird. It is left with the [store /shop] to check out , so he proceed to check it.

"[Store/Shop]"

-"[locked]"

Tristan, seeing all the system had to offer he then decided to close it and it close by his just thought.

"wow, amazing, can it open the same way" he muttered.

Tristan then thought about opening it again and a system interface Pop up in front of his eyes.He could only think about one thing , that the ancient box that his parents had left contains an mysterious ability .

"why is this a box not a book?"

The government has an ability books , that are often bought at a very high prices , some are from the military or the big companies , and whilst others could even be obtained on the black market .But Tristan had never heard of abilities being obtained from a box, only to melt and disappear into nothingness after granting the user their powers.

He knew they were designed into books to be learnt and it wasn't something you could pick up and instantly understand how it works or use it completely.

The mystery surrounding the box and the system intrigued Tristan, and he couldn't help but wonder what other surprises awaited him on his quest.

Tristan's mood started to brighten up , he thought this was a great news for him. He has no money to afford an ability, so he has always been a level 1 ability user all his life but now he has something and this was a significant development for him. He knows that he has water ability and the next phrase is how to make use of it.

Tristan's excitement grew as he tried to activate his water ability. He threw his palm forward, saying "Water, water, come out!" but unfortunately, it didn't work. Undeterred, he attempted another approach, saying "Water spirits splash!" but still no luck.

Tristan thought about it for a while and then decided to say "system, activate water ability"

Tristan felt a surge in energy and the water he fetch in the bowl to drink began to rise, but fall back immediately after some few minutes.

The system warned him, "You have spent 20 points of your energy. You are low on energy points, and your HP is 8 out of 10." Tristan's excitement was short lifted by this message. He realized that using his water ability was more taxing than he initially thought.

"what that hell, just that cost 20 of my energy points"he exclaimed, feeling disheartened.

"How am I supposed to battle with this?"

He momentarily forgot that his water ability was still at level 1, and he needed to level up.

He then thought about it for a while and come to the conclusion

"if this is truly is like those old games, then perhaps completing the quests will help me level up and unlock more skills to become stronger".

He was treating it like an ordinary ability books but forgotten his own was not a book or just something ordinary to begin with . It was something unique and special.

In this world, abilities were based on specific attributes. Humans were said to be able to learn and perform only one ability attribute. It was crucial for individuals to select their first ability and stick to it. If someone chose a speed-based ability, for example, they would only be able to acquire other abilities related to speed.

The same thing applies to the rest of the abilities.

Tristan decided completing the simple tasks first, would save him some time and so he went for the bowl of water and pick a cup to drink the water.

Tristan started drinking the water immediately. He realized that two litres of water were more than he had anticipated.

"Damn it, how much cup of water is really two litres " he thought, feeling full and his stomach hurting.

After finishing ten cups of water,a new message appeared in front of him. It read,

"[Task completed (1/5)]

-"[drink two litres of water]""

" it really works like those old games" . He muttered with excitement.

Tristan continue with the 30 press-ups and the 45 sit-ups, pushing himself to the limit. Two hours later, Tristan was breathing heavily, feeling exhausted but accomplished. Another message appeared, indicating that he had completed two more tasks.

"[Task completed (3/5)]

-[30 press-up with 60 minutes]

-[45 sit-up with 60 minutes]".

Tristan was left with only two tasks to complete to the first quest when Suddenly, his doorbell was rang three times. Startled ,Tristan dried himself off the sweat and rushed to get the door. He quickly get the door open. Standing in front of him was a muscular man with a scar on him left eye and wearing a black military uniform . He had several medals and badges , including his name tag on his chest. written on his name tag is "Sargent Kongo".

"Soldier, it is time for you to vacate your room with immediate effect. The vehicle has been prepared and has been waiting outside for more than five minutes already, so be quick, soldier," Sergeant Kongo commanded.

Tristan's heart sank as he realized what was happening . With everything going on, he had completely forgotten about today's event that was taking place.

"It's time for you to head to military school," Sergeant Kongo informed him.

Every individual who had reached the age of 15 was required to attend military school for three years due to the ongoing war between humans and the chaos race. Despite the current peace, they knew it wouldn't last forever.
