17 Ayako Meets Class 1-A

The rest of the day was short. Just a basic introduction to the curriculum and such. True classes would begin the next day, now that they could be sure that the class would still be around.

The class hung out in the classroom for a little while, chatting with each other. Even Bakugo had stayed, since Kirishima was eager to learn about him. Kai took a position leaned against the wall next to the door. It seemed that for the most part, the class had good chemistry. Everyone had introduced themselves and their Quirks briefly before, so Kai had a general handle on everyone's capabilities. Since nobody seemed to want to talk to him (understandable as he kept flipping from flippant impertinence to summoning horrible monsters), he made notes on his phone about each of his classmates. He started each entry with the basics, then possible evolution routes, then synergies. His work on equipment could wait for later. Besides, some of the equipment was obvious, like a handheld railgun for Denki.

So many things to research and optimize. This class had such variety, after all.

Still, there were a couple of disappointments. Since they were all students, growth rate was still a factor to consider. Purely morphic Quirks, like that of Mashirao Ojiro whose Quirk was nothing more than a tail, tended to have the lowest growth rate, or Mundane Growth. So named because the Quirk could only grow in the same way a Quirkless person would grow: exercise. No enlightenment would lead to power. Therefore, some other ways to enhance his threat level would be required.

Well, Kai would have to wait and see how the teachers were going to address these things. Ideally, they were the ones with experience and training for that. Kai on the other hand was the… nuclear solution.

After a few minutes taking notes like that, he felt a notification from a changeling he had released into the school earlier. Ayako was coming. With that thought completed, Kai locked his phone and pulled himself off the wall. Clearing his throat, he drew the attention of the class.

"Alright everyone! Thanks for not rushing to leave! In a moment, you are going to meet the unofficial 21st member of our class. Before she barges in, I just want to say a couple of things. First of all, Mineta, if you don't control yourself down to your thoughts, you have a fifty-fifty chance of being drop-kicked out that window," Kai said, pointing to the one nearest to Mineta. Just about everything he said caused a wave of confusion to go over everyone's faces, but Kai continued. "Well, consider yourself warned. The other thing is, no matter what she says-"

"Oniiiiiii-chan!!!"

"I'm not actually her brother," Kai finished as the door was flung open. While his position would normally have kept him out of sight of anyone entering, Ayako was a natural exception with her Quirk. So as soon as she could get herself through the door, she pushed off the wall and flung herself at Kai for a hug. Instantly, he raised his arms to block hers, but she managed to dodge and make another opening. Kai moved for another block, this time aiming for her head and a fist at stomach, but Ayako counterattacked. The class watched, stunned, as the siblings (?) had a brief sparring session with a hug at stake. Was this really the same guy who found scaring people with gore and savagery hilarious?

After a few moments, Ayako found victory. Kai sighed as she wrapped her arms around him. At times like this, he regretted the fact that he and his mother had helped train her Quirk.

Over the five years since he had moved in with Ayako's family, she had gone from being able to just read people's moods to being able to read attack intent through bioenergy. This made her a troubling opponent for the organic. It had been some time since the last time Kai won against her. However, since she relied on that extra sense so much, the robots in the test had too much advantage for her to effectively fight them to enter the hero course.

And now that combat skill was used to try to act cute and embarrass Kai in front of the class.

Without waiting for her to let go, Kai looked back at the class and spoke again.

"Everyone, this is Ayako Inukai. I have kind of been with her family for the past five years, though officially, I was never adopted, and will not be so that they can legally not be involved with me. But, since she wanted an older brother, she has adopted me as such, despite my many, MANY protests."

Ayako finally let go with a look of mock hurt. "Ouch, that hurts, onii-chan. And who adopted who? Haven't you called me Onee-chan, too?"

"Only because you kept telling me to after you finally beat me in a sparring match!"

"And I won that wager fair and square!"

Ayako turned and bowed to the class to deny Kai a retort.

"Ayako Inukai! Yoroshiku onegaishimasu! When you have problems from this guy, just let me know, I'll give you my number! I'll try to help, since I'm the only one that can beat this guy up," she said with a smirk.

That comment stunned the class even further. Having seen what Kai could do, what kind of monster was Ayako to be able to beat him?

"Yeah, she can, as long as I don't use my Quirk," Kai said. "Still, she's a force to be reckoned with. But really, call her if I become a problem. I have... a tendency to cause problems for others. She is mostly here to make sure that I don't go too crazy," he said with a chuckle. Of course, nobody would suspect that the thing he found humorous in what he said is that it was mostly serious.

"Don't be like that, Kai. He's really not that bad, everyone. He's… like a guard dog. Honest about who he likes and dislikes, and very loyal to his friends. Of course, you don't want to get on his bad side, but that's just for when there is already trouble. He's just like anyone else. I mean, the stories I could tell you about him…"

Ayako was swarmed by people with questions. Aoyama and Ashido, being in the front row, were first. They, like everyone else, wanted to know what her Quirk was, how she could beat Kai, and why she wasn't in the hero class if she could beat him, and about her eyes (electric blue ring in brown), and who was actually older.

"We celebrate Kai's birthday on July 7th with the start of Tanabata, but we don't know for sure. But, he is liable to change his mind to try to be older than me and use that against me, so I set it then so that not only does he not have to have something special all for him, he can't do that any more. To be fair, he is usually the one who acts older, but I'm the more mature one."

That didn't really answer the question, but with what was said and Ayako's not so subtle deflection and dismissal of further prying, everyone moved on to ask more about her.

Kai went back to leaning against the wall, watching as Ayako got to know everyone. It didn't take long for her to meet Iida. It took a little while to recognize him, but once the lightbulb went off…

"Ah-ha! You're the glasses maj-sack!"

"M-maj-sack?" Nobody knew the term and everyone looked around at each other in askance, especially Iida.

Ayako snapped her head around and pointed at Kai.

"I told you! I told you he'd be in your class! Now you owe me dinner for a week!"

Kai nodded in response. He hadn't forgotten the bet but hoped Ayako would. Still, perhaps he'd be able to get back at her. Perhaps he could make some extra spicy hell curry. The only problem would be handling eating it himself, since she actually rather liked extra spicy curry, and he'd have to go pretty extreme to get her…

Ayako went back to getting everyone's names. Slowly, she made her way to the back of the room. Kai straightened up and went to a window in the back to open it. Then, looking out, he remembered that they were on the second floor, and decided not to. Well, that was probably for the better, after all. She was getting to the back row. Ayako seemed to really like talking to Uraraka, Jiro and Yaoyorozu. Once she was done talking with Yaoyorozu, she gestured to the empty chair that belonged to Midoriya.

"Who sits here?"

"Izuku Midoriya, you know, the One Punch Kid," Kai instantly replied. Both of them ignored Mineta's crestfallen face. After all, by gesturing to Midoriya's seat, Ayako had effectively ignored him. Kai followed suit, as he knew that Ayako had sensed him perving on her. Well, that unfortunately came with the territory of one with her face and, ahem, other features. Just being ignored was good.

But Mineta wanted to push his luck and get to know the pretty girl in front of him.

"H-hello, I'm-"

"The class pervert, I got it. I smelled you the moment you laid eyes on me. Kai, why isn't that window open so I can dropkick him through it? He definitely needs a lesson."

"Second floor, Ayako, he'd be too injured."

"What, his Quirk gives him no landing options?"

"Well…" Kai trailed off as he realized that judging by Mineta's sideways jump test, he'd probably be fine if he was able to throw a ball or two down first. Still, that was assuming he had fast enough reflexes to realize that. Chances were, even if his reflexes were up to par, the shock wouldn't let him do so this time around.

Of course, practice makes perfect, if it came to that.

Most of the class laughed at Mineta's look of horror. Well, that's what happens when a pervert meets an empath. Not that that was really necessary in Mineta's case, as he couldn't even hide his expression well. But, since he was so easy to read, Ayako sensed that she had punished him enough for now and backed off.
