6 ~Chapter 5~

~Chapter 5~

The last time I checked he wasn't a father so something hasn't been said yet. "Hey, Alex when did you get those babies?" I asked him. "Oh, what are you doing here?" Alex asked me ignoring my question. 'Does he forget what he texts people that quickly?' I asked myself. "You do know you were the one who texted me to come to see you right? Did Shakespeare's sonnets mess up your head?" I said giving him a flick on his forehead. "Well, you never responded to my message so I didn't know you were coming here," He told me. u were coming here," I said. "Well since you are here, come inside I need to talk to you about something. Would you mind holding Amber for a moment?" Alex asked me. That must be one of the baby's names. I was about to say yes but he shoved her in my arms before I could answer.

I wonder if this is the reason he isn't in school today. He walked back into his apartment and sat on the sofa. "What if I told you I don't know who these babies belong to? That they were just some stranger's babies?" Alex asked me. "Well, I would be hoping that you didn't kidnap someone's children because then I would have to take you into the police station," I said. Even though Alex doesn't seem like the type to kidnap some babies he could have. It is very unlikely though. "I would also hope my friend isn't a criminal and that they have a good explanation. So do you have a good explanation for these babies right here Alex?" I asked him.

"Okay, so long story short. I found them outside my apartment door when I got a noise complaint from a neighbor when I was at class. I figured you would know what to do so that is why I texted you to come here. So can you tell me what to do?" Alex asked me. "Well for starters you need to fill out a report for the police department and then we try to find their parents or relatives. I can tell you right now though the social workers might not have space or employees available to take care of two babies. How about we have lunch together and you can be my first case when I'm off the break." I suggested. "That sounds like it will work. Do you want anything specific for lunch?" Alex asked me.

"Maybe some soup if you have any. If you don't we could probably go and get some subs at the store." I said.

"I don't think I have any soup but I will probably get some soon. Want to play rock, paper, scissors to see who has to go get the subs." Alex told me. I just put out my hand and started thinking of the rhythm in my head and when Alex did the same put-out rock. Alex put out scissors so I won and didn't have to go get the subs. "Okay. Do you think you'll be able to take care of Amber and Christan while I'm gone?" Alex asked me. "I think I'll be fine and I can always call you if I need help," I told Alex.

"I don't know if you'll be able to hold Amber and Christian for how long I'll be gone. If you need to you can put them down on my bed but make sure to keep a close eye on them." Alex suggested to me as he handed me, Christian. "What kind of sub do you want?" He asked me. I don't want anything fancy that would upset my stomach so a meatball sub sounded best to me. "A meatball sub please," I told Alex. He nodded before leaving the apartment. I looked at the two babies in my arms and questioned myself.

"What am I going to do with you two?" I said to them. Christan reached up his tiny hands. "Do you want something to play with?" I asked him. I know babies can't respond with words but they sometimes recognize words. He shook his hands a little bit. Alex most likely bought them some toys. So I might as well go into his room with them and try and find a rattle. I adjusted how I was holding Amber and then picked up Christian and moved them. I'm grateful both of them haven't cried at all so far.

Now that I think about it I hope I didn't just jinx myself. I set down the babies on the bed and there were a couple of blankets and rattles they could play with. Christian took the rattle and started shaking it. Meanwhile Amber just was sitting on the bed doing nothing. "Is there anything you want Amber?" I asked her. She didn't move and just continued staring off. I picked up one of the blankets and wrapped Amber in it. I held her in my arms and started to rock her back and forth. She seemed to be paying attention to me now.

She probably wanted to sleep and I interrupted her. I laid her back down onto the bed and watched her and Christian carefully. I heard when I was a kid it was good for parents to read to their children. So I pulled up a few kid's poems on Woogle. I read them a couple of poems to help them settle down. I watched Amber relax more and start to fall asleep. Once I was sure she was asleep I stopped reading the poems. Alex will want to bring the babies to a pediatric clinic to know if they are healthy or not. Regardless if he is their parent or not he should make sure they are healthy and happy. I continued to watch them until I heard the door open. I wanted to give Alex a little bit of time to settle down before I started to tell him about my day. I might not even tell him today because he has a lot on his plate right now, "Hey, I got the food," Alex said as he walked into the room. "Hey," I replied.
