47 Taking off the blindfold

Beth narrowed her eyes, staring at the mark. The embroidery was coarse, but it served the purpose. It differentiated these servants from the others. It was similar to branding slaves, but this was more dignified. She guessed that most probably, every mansion under such a powerful god must have the same system to distinguish them from those of other mansions. 

From the way that other servants on their way through the streets of E districts gave way to them, it was clear to her that the mark also put them on a higher plane than those servants who were working for gods of lower ranks. There was visibly another hierarchy within the hierarchy of heaven, where every servant's status depended on the masters they served.
