56 Make Things Right

He had been staring at his phone for half an hour now. He wanted to call Jean, but he could not come up with perfect words to start a conversation.

What should he say to Jean about last night?

Everything is still unclear, but one thing he was sure of, he was misbehaving last night. And he doesn't want Jean to think he is avoiding her because of what happened.

Kier took a deep breath before he dialed Jean's number.

Jean was texting the girls when her phone rang. She waited for a moment before she swiped the green button to answers the call.

"Hello?"

"Jean?"

"Yes. You need something that's why you have called?" Her voice is too low. In fact, she's a bit nervous and shy.

"Ah... Well, there's something I wanted to talk to you about. I know I should talk to you in person, but I can't go home yet. Been so busy out here for the upcoming show soon."

"Ah, yes. The girls chatted with me about it. And I understand, of course, it is your job."

Coldwater poured on him. He does realize that things are not the same way anymore. He was a great lawyer, but why he has no courage to face this small matter?

No. This isn't just a small matter. It is the most important thing above his job. He cut the call, picks up his car keys, then rushes to the elevator.

On the other line, Jean was surprised when Kier suddenly hung up the call. She wanted to be upset, but what is her right? The whole thing is just temporary. They just agreed about this fake marriage for her convenience. She was the one who should consider as in the advantage of this game. So she should not complain.

Jean decided to sleep and held the tears that began escaping from her eyes.

She wasn't sure how long she'd been sleeping when she heard the bedroom door opens. She thinks it was just a few minutes since she fell asleep.

"Why are you here? Isn't you are working overtime?" Jean asked, half-sleep. She thought she was dreaming. She got up from the bed then recalled the call earlier.

So this is why Kier hangs up the call. Instead, he drove home for them to talk have a good talk in person.

"Um… did you have dinner? I can…"

"Jean," Kier walked towards her. He heaved a sigh before he spoke again.

"I...I am honestly clueless if where I should start. I know I have been an asshole sometimes and so much full of myself, but when it comes to this part, I am still a rookie."

"I realized that I wanted to take everything seriously. Make things right and make you my priority. So, Jean…"

Jean was listening intently, making sure nothing she would be missed. But she becomes speechless from Kier's sudden confession.

"About last night... I am sorry if I misbehave and do that…."

"Hmm? Do that?" She asked teasingly. She was dazed, but she saw Kier blushed. His face was turning red, and so she covered her mouth.

"Please, don't laugh."

"I'm not…" she tried to deny it, but she was giggling.

Kier grabs her hand. Her heart began acting weird being touch by him like this. Her heart flutters and beating crazily. Is she falling for him?

"Jean, I was drunk last night, and I did not remember the rest of what happens… so,"

"Uhm… isn't it too unfair on my part for not remembering anything?" Kier added.

Jeans eyes grew wider, and her mouth dropped open. She began hitting him. "Hey! Why you're hurting me now?"

Jeans face flushing red. "Have you realized that was my first?"

"That's why it's unfair on my part. It's my first time, and yet, I remember nothing."

Jean was shocked. "You're kidding me? Don't tell me all you did is just studying?"

"Is that so bad?"

Jean covered her mouth. She can't believe it. How handsome her husband is, rich and successful. He truly never had a woman before? But thinking about how he has mood swings, is dictator, and talking about virtues a lot. Above all, he is a clean freak; indeed, it is impossible for him to suddenly bring any woman to his house or go to someone's house and have a one-night stand.

"What are you thinking?" Kier asked Jean when she fell silent.

"Nothing. I wonder, how did you survive until now without…."

She saw how Kier's face flustered. She giggles.

"Don't tell me you wanted me to prove again how a man I am?"

Jean covered her face. The butterflies inside her chest are gone crazy, her heart beating even fast this time. She heard Kier let out a sexy laugh.

"Did I hurt you last night?"

Jean froze, then nodded.

"Then… let's just do it next time."

"Okay," Jean still covering her face.

"Jean, look at me."

She keeps shaking her head.

"Hey, you are not the only one that embarrassed here."

Jean did not respond, but she giggled. He grabbed her hands and locked her inside his arms. Jean got quiet. She did not avoid it when Kier lowered his face.

"Before I forget," he paused halfway. "When you'll wake me up in the morning, can you be gentle instead of kicking me out of bed?"

Jean burst out into laughter. She's guilty indeed. But she has a reason, yes, why she kicks him out in the bed, and she won't tell Kier about it.

She got quiet when Kier sealed her lips.

EMPIRE DRAGON HOTEL

Shun opened his suit and dropped himself on the couch. What a long day for him. He massages his right shoulder and glances at his wristwatch. He checks the time; it is quarter to eleven. If he hadn't left already, his business partners would invite him to drink more.

He dragged himself to get up and took off his clothes to get a shower. It looks like he never goes home yet for a month now. But there's no one waiting for him back to his grand mansion, just maids.

Shun wears a bathrobe after a quick shower and sits back on the couch. He picks up his phone and scroll to check his messages. His heart skips a beat staring at the photos Joanna sent him.

It looks like there is something that changes about Cassie. Is that how long since he left the island? It is her birthday the next month. He does wonder what birthday gift Cassie would like and if she wants to have a birthday party. And her promenade is in the same month as well.

Well, all he needed was to casually ask Joanna to ask Cassandra what she liked and her plans.

If his work is lighter next week, he could go back to the island by the weekend. Rudolf did notify him that he put the system back to go home after he's done cleaning the blocklisted players and those that got reported many times.

Rudolf used this as an excuse to convince his game partners to do his plans with hidden personal purposes, which is childish, yeah.

Shun notices that the last text Cassie sent him was just a few minutes ago.

Back in the Young Villa, Cassie brought down the glasses and washed them in the kitchen, then went back to her bedroom when her phone rang. She picks up and quickly swipes the button to answer the caller. Good thing Joanna is a deep sleeper.

"Brother Shun?"

"Cassandra? You're not sleeping yet?"

"Ah... we've been checking out the things you've sent so, we stayed up a little longer. But I am preparing to go to bed now." Cassie opens the veranda's sliding door to get out when Shun seems to notice the sounds she makes.

"Wait, are you going out of your balcony?"

"Ah, yes, brother Shun."

"Don't go outside. For sure, the night breeze is colder; you'll catch a cold."

"Oh, okay." Cassie closed the door and decided to sit on the floor by the footbed.

"Don't try to get sick," Shun added.

"Okay, brother Shun. Did I disturb you?" Cassie was told by Daichi that the boss is constantly doing overtime, that he turned his office as his home to finish his works quickly.

That's why Cassie decided to pack some food for Shun; thinking no one might cooking for him, she completely forgot that Shun's office is the hotel. The only thing she thinks is to give back what kindness Shun is giving her. And making his meals is the least she could do.

But in Shun's point of view, he was very impressed by how Cassie is spoiling him, forgetting how he spoiled Cassie in ways he does.

The call continued with thank you's and complementing each other. Shun thanked Cassie for the food, and Cassie thanked him for the ingredients and seasonings he sent.

It's been an hour had passed, and Shun realizes the time.

"Cassandra, you should go to sleep now; you have classes tomorrow," Shun said, but the other line did not respond anymore.

He listens to Cassandra's breathing. Shun smiled. She falls asleep. Shun did not end the call and left it connected. He was now lying on his bed when he heard Cassandra talk in her sleep...

"Brother Quinn..."

Shun was surprised. "Quinn?"
