7 The Substitute Heiress

Few years passed, from being a nobody in the family, Sophie became the new heiress. She got the position that was supposed to be hers in the beginning. She was now Percy's fiance and they were in their last year of senior year.

The day she was introduced as the eldest child of the Anderson clan, she met Alora Smith together with Luke Wilson. She also met Percy after a week of not seeing him.

"Alora, this is Sophie. She's the daughter of your Aunt Lucy and Uncle Vincent. You know them right?" Mrs. Smith introduced Sophie to her daughter. 

Alora looked like an angel. She has a pair of silver eyes and long silver hair. She's a few years younger than her and was engaged to Luke Wilson.

At first, Sophie was nervous. It was the first time she attended a party. But then, Alora smiled and took her hand. 

"You're like a doll. Your eyes. It's pretty. I love it. Can we be friends?" Alora asked. 

Sophie wanted to cry from happiness. Finally, someone asked her to be her friend. She nodded, then Mr.Smith, Alora's father, introduced the two boys.

"Sophie, this is Luke and Percy. From now on you will be friends." 

She found out that Luke was Percy's best friend. Percy was the quiet and shy guy. He's good looking, has black hair and a deep set of gray eyes with thick and angled  brows, while Luke was the cheerful and friendly type of guy. His eyes were blue like crystals sparkling when he smiled. His lips were red like a girl's but it didn't lessen his aura as a boy. 

"I'm sorry, I didn't keep my promise. I needed to convince my father about us. He asked me to stay away from you for the whole week so your family won't suspect me." Percy said when he got closer to her.

She frowned and was confused by what he said. Then Alora suddenly held her hands.

"Sophie, your twin sister tried to poison you but Percy didn't believe that she did it alone. And he thinks that the reason she was in a coma was because someone tried to silence her. We don't think your sister was really a bad person. She's being manipulated." Alora said.

Her heart started to beat faster and louder. She looked around to check on some members of her family. She saw them looking at her. Are they spying on me? She thought to herself.

"Sophie, calm down. Don't let them see you like that. Pretend you don't know anything. I will protect you, I promised, remember?" Percy whispered into her ear.

Ever since that day, they were always together and became best of friends. Sophie and Percy were the quiet and shy-type. Luke and Alora were the bold and confident ones.

"You know Alora, I admire you. You're confident, smart, beautiful and everyone wants to be your friend. You're the total opposite of me." Sophie told Alora once.

"Who told you that? You're the prettiest person for me Sophie. Your eyes are so beautiful like gems. And I don't want to be friends with other  girls. You're my one and only best friend. You, Percy, Luke and me, we will always be together. Let's make a promise to each other! Okay? No matter what happens, we will always remember this day." They made a promise under a maple tree and carved their names in it.

But after the official engagement of Luke and Alora, the four of them were kidnapped. Sophie didn't know all the details, she was knocked unconscious the whole time. When she woke up, she was already at the hospital and Alora went to the US.

When she came back, she didn't recognize them. Time flies and Alora totally forgot them. Until recently, they found out she has amnesia and dissociative identity disorder. Her friendship with Alora was restored and now Sophie got another few friends because of her.

Ever since she got closer to the kids of the richest families in the country, Sophie's family started treating her nicely. Her mother would take care of her clothes, her hair and her skin. She would always remind her to take care of herself because she didn't want another flaw in her.

Her grandfather would also ask her opinion about the family's business. Sophie was born a genius, even though she studied at home for years, she would always come up with a solution in everything.

Now, at the age of seventeen, Sophie became the most important member of the family. But still, she was always afraid of her own life.

When she found out that Selene bribed her two servants before to slowly poison her, she felt like someone was always watching her. Percy was still trying to investigate who was the person or people behind it, but they both knew that they weren't done yet.

It has been five years since Selene was pronounced unconscious, but Sophie hasn't seen her. Every time she would ask her mother about it, she would change the topic or avoid her. It was the same with her father and grandfather, no one in the family talked about Selene.

She was the substitute heiress of the Anderson Clan. She was always waiting for her sister to wake up and show up in front of her to claim her place.

Sophie admitted that she wanted to be in Selene's shoes. It was supposed to be her place anyway, and not Selene's. But now that she has it, she wants to get rid of it badly.

She knew Selene would get mad at her for getting her place, but she would gladly give it to her if she wanted it. She would give up being the heiress, but she would not give up Percy.

She realized that being an heiress to a family who lived on greed and not love, her life and her twin sister's would always be in danger.
