11 linked heart beats

Mama silver was tired. She has not slept a wink for the past ten hours. The battle they fought in the spiritual realm to bring Emma back to life was long and arduous.

She knew she won't be able to sleep even if she tried to. Not when Emma was still not picking her calls.

'That child!' Mama silver thought anda sighed in resignation.

The thought of nearly losing her to death today still filled Mama silver with horror that sent cold chilling sensations down her spine.

'Only God knows what Emma did this time around that was grave enough to stop her heart for three whole hours.' Mama silver wondered with fright.

From the day she was born, Emma was an easy baby who never cried unnecessarily, had typical toddlerhood, and was a go-with-the-flow kind of kid who rarely causes trouble.

Mama silver still doesn't understand why she suddenly changed overnight and went from being the perfect kid to a troublesome and defiant one, who never seemed to be out of trouble for one thing or another, especially during school hours.

Sometimes, she would be good and obedient, especially whenever they were alone with each other, but as soon as she went back to school she's back to being incorrigible. Mama silver couldn't understand how a child could be so stubborn yet very loving at the same time.

At such a young age, people find Emma unbearable, especially her parents and siblings. Not Mama silver though. One thing she believed about kids was that a child who constantly misbehaves is only looking for attention and desperately wants to be noticed and loved.

No matter how bad Emma behaves, Mama silver loved her unconditionally. She suspected Emma was that way because of the kind of relationship she had with her parents and siblings. Emma wanted their love and attention which was never given to her.

Every time Mama silver asked Emma to talk about her parents and siblings, she would refused, saying she doesn't like discussing topics that would end up spoiling her mood.

As a teenager, Emma was rebellious, which further drove a bigger wedge between her and her parents. She was fearless and daring. The way she dressed, partied... just name it. If it's bad, Mama silver knew her granddaughter would have experimented with it.

Mama silver was at first worried about Emma's way of life when it seemed she was getting out of control. Her worries however were reduced to a certain degree when she went to oracle to check what the future holds for her.

Mama silver was not much surprised about what she found out from Oracle concerning Emma. She called her son and his wife and told them everything she learned about Emma from Oracle, and what they would do to ensure her future was not jeopardized by her present.

After which she sat Emma down and talked to her according to Oracle's directive...

'Wherever she goes, whatever she does, there are some things she must not indulge in if she doesn't want to live a life filled with misery.

Everything was fine ever since that discussion they had. Although Emma was still strong-willed as ever, she has since grown from an unbearable teenager to a witty and free-spirited young woman.

Even though Mama silver was still worried about Emma not picking her calls, she knew for sure that her granddaughter was okay. She just completed the final ritual that would enable her to hear Emma's heartbeats and also feels it beforehand whenever she's in danger.

Right now, Emma's heartbeat was not beating like she was in distress or anything like that. It was steady and strong.

'Has her phone been stolen?.' Mama silver wondered as she decided to call Diane's number again. It rang for some time before it was finally switched off.

'What is the matter with these children!?' She wondered to herself in exasperation. 'Why are they not picking my calls!?'

Emma sat inside her car crying with her head on the steering wheel. She listened as the Celine Dion's 'Mama you gave life to me' song that she used for her grandmother's ringtone played over and over again because of her grandmother's ceaseless calls.

It broke her heart to hear her phone rings over and over again, knowing her grandmother was worried about her. It hurts, even more, to know that she couldn't pick it. At least not until she figured out the miserable pieces of what's left of her life.

What would she say if she pick the call!? How would she look her grandmother in the face and tell her she broke the only rule she had ever given to her.

It was only one thing her grandma had ever asked of her...

'Ayinke, wherever you go... Whatever you do, always have it at the back of your mind that you are a special being. It is detrimental to your health and future to have sexual relations with any man that is not your husband.'

Just one rule that had always resounded in her mind until now.

'That blasted man! I kissed him and my brain went on a temporary break, completely shutting my mind down.

What did he do to me!? How did he get me to happily follow him to that hotel room!? Did he maybe touched me with some kind of ¹juju spell so he could easily have his way with me!?

I swear whoever you are, you've messed with the wrong girl! I'm going to find you and make you regret what you did to me for the rest of your miserable life!' Emma swore and cried harder.

'I didn't even know his name! How do I tell grandma I slept with a guy who mistook me for a prostitute!?...'

"Bastard! I hate you! I hate you, I hate you!" Emma cried, continuously banging on the steering wheel with her fist. Drawing the attention of the couple that was passing by her car at that moment.
