7 Clearing The Town

But it was slightly different here, as this place wasn't yet conquered by monsters. It was situated at the heart of the O-zone, a place still not conquered yet it wasn't safe for humans to stay.

It was a logical conclusion especially when you were surrounded everywhere by dead zones. The town lied in what Kansas state used to be in the former United States.

The town called Tensa town was situated slightly to the south of deserted Fort Scott city. It was just next to the inner side of the O big shaped dead zone.

<Ding! You should leave them and go around killing other monsters>

"I can't agree with that," Aroon firmly said, "they are strong. I can vouch for that. However, they aren't that strong to take down all the monsters inside on their own."

<Ding! They aren't fighting many monsters at the moment as you can see>

Aroon checked his three-dimensional map and there he saw the random yellow dots gathering together while heading towards a certain direction.

"They are planning to go to the centre of the town and fortify themselves there," he realized what they planned to do. "I have to help them a little."

<Ding! You can depend on them to kill the monsters in that region at least. have limited time here>

"I know," Aroon said but didn't move a muscle while watching the yellow dots running and fighting the monsters. "Let's see... roughly a hundred monsters are running amok in that part of the town."

He counted the red dots around the yellow ones, "they can handle those. However, there are more inside the town. I have to help and kill these monsters then."

The system didn't speak this time while he flashed his sword towards one tentacle of a tanker and then moved at high speed. He jumped high in the air and landed with his sword over the head of that monster.

"I'm getting used to this," he laughed and the system chose to remain silent while letting Aroon have his fun.

The town wasn't that big but it turned out to be one of the most important human settlements in the region.

Many refugees came here after the severe hit many big cities at the border with the dead zone suffered.

And that added more difficulties to the lives of people here. Lack of security, lack of resources, and zero hope for a better future; all were enough to crush the will of any and change the soul of many.

Despite the ability of the united humanity forces led by the grand world organization, the Rulers, to help, they didn't. No one came to their aid.

Some optimistic fallens thought the government would send some stelsel twins or the weak mechas to help but nothing was sent and such people became extinct.

This led many people living in this town, and many others, to believe that the world turned its back on them.

Aroon was feeling slight sympathy with them, but he still remembered how bad they treated him.

After all, the life he had here wasn't that nice as the rest of the fallens. People considered the fallens their final hope, their beacon of light when monsters would attack.

Fallens here were like sacred heroes to normal folks.

However, they saw nothing worthy of support in him. And he didn't forget that.

"And now the one you least expected anything from is the one moving out to defend your pathetic lives, morons," he couldn't help but shout while killing monsters in the outer region of the town.

<Ding! The current number of remaining monsters are five hundred>

The system kept updating him with the numbers of the remaining monsters during the past hours. For four hours he kept fighting and killing monsters inside the town until there was no monster staying there.

"Thinking of the time again," he muttered, "the monsters took roughly one hour to reach here, that makes me have less than one hour to exterminate those five hundred."

He turned his gaze towards a certain direction while the sun was heading closer to the west. "It's a piece of cake, I know where they are."

<Ding! Don't underestimate this last batch> the system warned.

"I know, the last guardians of the dungeon," Aroon said before starting to run outside the town.

"Y'know back in the day, we had to first deal with them before entering the dungeon. They were the first to fall and I know how fierce they are."

This was one of the many mysteries veiling the monsters and dungeons. Aroon heard a lot of theories about why the earth was invaded.

Some said they came for food, and humans were considered the top on their list. Others thought of the old resources theory where they came here for resources.

But Aroon knew from dealing first hand with monsters that they neither seek human flesh or any resources of any kind.

Monsters killed humans and could even eat them, but he saw many human corpses lying all around any breached towns without being eaten.

As for resources, he once defended an invasion on one of the old gold mines.

The monsters ignored one of the most precious metals on earth and only tried to dominate the area and expand their territory there.

As for the guardians, they were always there. The elite forces of the monsters stay back to defend the dungeon from getting breached.

As for why they did so and not joining the raid on towns and cities, it was another question unanswered for mankind.

"For me, I believe they follow some sort of a grand intelligence," Aroon said while running amidst the yellow grass that invaded the fertile lands here instead of corpses. "I bet there are some wise freaks in their ranks that we know nothing about."

<Ding! You aren't that stupid as it seems>

"Watch out your tongue!"
