Chapter 1:The ghetto life.

Kamokya is one of the slum areas in Kampala with houses crowded,the population in this area is so fierce that you have to be careful when entering this kind of environment.When it rains my dear, the smell only from the various trenches can nauseate you with the weak mind.People actually ignore the warning of the Kampala capital city Authority by dumping rubbish wherever they want making it easily for diseases to spread.

In this kind of environment, it's where Annabelle stays with her mom and little sister. She's brown skinned,has long eye lashes and round buttocks. She's well proportioned and some people mistake her for being a rich man's daughter but that's not the reality when you get a chance to see her coming from the small roads with trenches all over the place. Though Annabelle's mom is a single parent,she operates a stall of fruits in Nakasero market where the income generated helps in supporting her family.She has struggled so hard to provide for her children ,she selflessly loves her children that she can trade her soul for her children.

At the school.

"Priccy we should attend the dancing club maybe someone may notice us during the ceremony. Please at least I need someone's support and that's eventually you cause

we're besties for life. Meet priccy Annabelle's best friend, she's a tall girl who is brown skinned,has perky buttocks with a dainty waist.

Annabelle pleaded with her best friend priccy with a smiley face. "Okay I got you your highness there's no need to convince me so much.Priccy replied with a soft gaze.

Let's first grab our drinks before going for it cause we might faint due to low levels of glucose.Humming happily both friends went to the canteen that sold a variety of delicious snacks and drinks.

After filling their stomachs, they went to the training hall that comprised of dancing students.Knocking on the door gently the instructor allowed both of them to enter.

Standing at the dance floor podium, the instructor told the students to line up in three different groups. "Okay are we ready, let's start,one,two , three go". Whining their waists, Annabelle and priccy were very serious cause it was always their dream to become professional dancers.

After like what seemed forever they accomplished that day's task and went back to their respective classes. Annabelle the way the instructor watched your dance moves was some how creepy, Priccy whispered to her friend to avoid being heard by other students. Don't exaggerate , people are always mesmerized by my dance moves and moreover she's lady.Am not a lesbian for your information.

Settling into their seats,the bell rung indicating that it was time for the end of that day's lessons.But before they stepped out of the classroom,the class monitor stood on the podium announcing the emergency assembly.

"What are they gonna tell us?,I hate these kind of assemblies.The boys discussed this in the small gang.

"Hurry up for the assembly cause Mr Nick is coming with a stick beating whoever he finds in class",Mary warned her classmates running in the direction of the assembly grounds.

Making lines according to their classes,the headteacher started addressing the students, "good evening students,we don't normally hold assemblies on Wednesday unless it's an emergency,the National Television will be holding contests around Uganda searching for the best dancers,so if you're interested register your name with the entertainment prefect" After passing on the information he left the podium but the students became excited shouting at the top of their lungs.

Omg! Annabelle the opportunity has come,we shouldn't miss it , just request your mom's permission and we're good to go.Priccy told Annabelle smiling ear to ear. Yeah,am also excited and I can't wait to reach home and give mom these news.

On their way home,dark clouds started occupying the once clear sky indicating for a heavy down pour. Unable to reach home before the rain started pouring,they got drenched with their uniforms stuck on their bodies like glue .

"Priccy, don't forget to get your self some warm water with ginger cause you might catch a cold". Annabelle reminded her friend in caring tone.Priccy just nodded her head saying goodbye.

"Mom,am back "Annabelle spoke from the door .She didn't receive any response and decided to use her spare key but she was shocked by what she saw,the water had flooded their house destroying their things to the extent of being totally unrecognizable.

Contemplating on what she should do first, Annabelle grabbed all their important things that were floating above the water. Brought a rag and and empty basin and started cleaning up the house. The wall clock had just hit it's hand at exactly twelve when Annabelle completed her chores.

But I haven't taken a bath,I won't use the public bathroom cause the heavy rainfall has made it easy for green algae to have it's way on the walls and floor making it slippery. I will use a basin and bucket since Lorita and mom aren't home, smiling sheepishly she bathed immediately. Putting on her night gown,she collapsed on the small bed opposite the window traveling immediately to dream land.

It was until wee hours that Annabelle woke up remembering how she spent the night at home alone,she immediately got up and pulled a small bag that contained a Nokia phone to call her mom and ask if she's okay. Dialling the number, Sabrina Annabelle's mom spoke with tiredness audible in her voice,but assured her daughter as she was safe and sound with her sister . Heaving asigh! ,she washed herself to prepare for the coming examination.

"Annabelle, good morning, please remember to come with the general paper notebook." Priccy reminded her friend standing outside the door. Are you okay cause yesterday was a tough day, Annabelle asked her friend showing genuine concern.Yeah ,I did as you told me and am completely fine.Priccy calmed down Annabelle who had started to worry for nothing.

Arriving at the examination hall,they lined up showing their clearance forms and IDs,the teacher on duty completed his task and allowed them to sit to their allocated seats. He immediately started distributing the examination papers. After two and half hours,the morning exams came to an end leaving the teacher behind with a huge stack of papers.

Sitting under the coconut tree, Priccy suddenly asked Annabelle how the paper was but was amazed cause a strange sound was coming from Annabelle who was snoring like a pig. God at what time did this girl completed the chores?,even her reflection wasn't good when I picked her from home.Priccy thought in her mind not waking up the already sleepy Annabelle, left with no choice she decided to read for the next paper cause she always forgetful.

"Omg! I feel so good after taking the nap". Annabelle told priccy who was busy flipping pages on her revision book.Shifting her gaze from the book, priccy just laughed it off cause she was used to Annabelle's behavior after the morning exams . Suddenly the bell for lunch rang, they picked up their bags and went to the kitchen to get something to eat.

The school chef was surprised by the sudden appearance of these two besties cause they rarely eat the school prepared food cause most of the times they just eat snacks.

"Why are those girls always walk hand in hand like a pair of lovers?" Amir the always silent guy asked the girl next to him. It's because they are best friends coming from the same background.The girl replied .

Having completed their lunch,they took large strides to line up at the front of the examination hall. "Do you think this paper will be very hard like that of the morning session?". Several girls whispered to avoid making unnecessary noise. " God knows what's inside that paper, just pray for a miracle to happen. Joshua replied them smirking.Repeating the same routine of showing their IDs and clearance forms,they sat randomly on different single seaters. Madam Rene distributed the papers and after few minutes,she gave them the signal to start.

Watching the students from where she was seated?, some of them had started staring at the roof and biting their pens due to the difficulty of the exam. After what felt like forever,she collected the papers and went into the staffroom."Omg! I can't believe that I was able to come out alive,my mentality almost collapsed cause it was like seating for a university paper". Evelyn said sullenly.

"Hee!, since tomorrow is a weekend I should have my beauty sleep so that I can come back on Monday well refreshed". Don't you agree Annabelle?. Priccy nudged her friend with the elbow. Annabelle just laughed.

Friday night.

After returning home, Annabelle found her mom Sabrina and little sister preparing for dinner. This made her beam with joy cause it had been a long time ever since they had dinner together as they are always busy with their own lives.The aroma almost made Annabelle to drool before even savoring the taste. "Go and wash your hands ". Sabrina told her two daughters showing a gentle smile. "Yes your highness "they chorused together. Seated on a mat,they savored the delicious food without dropping their forks.By the way mom why don't we shift from this place cause whenever it rains the water floods into the house.Annabelle asked her mom bowing her head to avoid eye contact with her mom. Holding her daughter's hands,she replied saying,I also thought about it but you know right now we are low on cash and it will take at least two months to save up money for a new rental. Annabelle lost in thought,but the real problem is the contractor who built the trenches slanting giving water an opportunity to enter into the houses . Touching her head, Annabelle snapped out of the daze. After their heart to heart talk they went to rest hoping to start the new day with blessings and opportunities.
