11 Chapter 10- The other side of life

Kang Lei and BoJing came off the bus in the downtown area of lower Beijing, most knew this area as the slums of Beijing. The government has done little to improve the area, even though every election their main point of focus is how they are going to change this and are planning that development, yet through the eight years that Kang Lei has been living in the surrounding area he has yet to see any improvements or promised changes happen.

The crime rate in the area is sky-high, along with the unemployment. It's surprising to say the least how Kang Lei has encountered very little in the way of trouble considering how dissolute the area is, you would think that one would be preyed upon being an unclaimed omega and without any family, worst of having a child to go along with it, but it may all come down to the fact that Kang Lei doesn't look like the atypical omega with overly feminine features, he could easily pass for a beta but unfortunately for Kang he inherited all the weak physicality's of being an omega.

They reached the third floor of their rundown apartment building, before heading inside, Kang and BoJing as always they went directly to check to up on grandpa Chong, who lived next door to them.

Kang Lei was offered his apartment from the government three years ago, after having been shelter hopping with BoJing from his birth. As Kang Lei couldn't work and hand no means to pay for childcare, he had no choice but to rely on charities and the small government funding he received every month. In order to continue going to school, Kang Lei brought BoJing along with him, it was a good thing that BoJing was such a quiet and well-behaved baby, otherwise his teachers would have object. During those times when he used to bring BoJing along, BoJing loved the classes so much he would cry when having to leave, Kang is sure this is the reason why BoJing is so smart today.

Those days were some of the lowest points of Kang Lei life, both mentally and physically, there were times when he spent days without food just so he could buy BoJing baby formula and nappies.

After placing his name on the housing scheme register for young parents, Kang Lei was finally offered this flat, with the backing of the government to help pay his rent, he didn't care abut the area for as long as he could give a stable home to BoJing, he believed he could make a shack into a home. The apartment only had one room, inclusive of the kitchen, sleeping and dining area all in the same space, the bathroom however had its own separate room off to the side, the apartment was very small and just about held Kang Lei and BoJing, it was a good thing Kang Lei had no money to spend on items such as a TV or wardrobe otherwise there would be very little space to move around. But for Kang Lei, this was much better than being rich and having everything in the world, because he came from that world, and he wouldn't wish to return. On the other side of life, the grass may not be greener, but his heart was full.
