Melisa Beckett – the God of Mischief

(Third person POV)

'Kaleah Huxley,' to Clayton that was a woman who never means what she says. Even though they are staying at the same house, he had only see her silhouette when she sneaks away from the kitchen every morning. He had tried to catch her making milk one morning like he did when they first met, but she was already running to her room when he had arrived.

"Cain, what have you found about the girl?"

Cain Dealer had just started working for Clayton only about 14 years. Yes he had always been a lacky since childhood, but he did not mind. Aside from his bad attitude Clayton wasn't such a bad person.

"Oh, um.. she is the only child of the late Ashely Huxley and the newly remarried Ore Huxley."

He lies, Cain had been threatened to limit information he tells Clayton by. And Mrs Melisa Beckett threatened to kill him if he lists Zoey as Kaleah's sister. Though he trusted she would never hurt him, he trusted she would hurt him at the same time. Better safe than sorry they say.

"Like the young miss she went to Kana Art school, but she majored in painting unlike Miss Cyan who did sculptures. She had recently gave birth to a baby girl to an unknown father."

"Is that it?"

"Um… yes."

Clayton looks suspiciously at Cain, the little girls is cute, she does look like Kaleah, he had have the chance to take a glance at her. But it was impossible for Kaleah to have a four-month-old child. It didn't make sense physically.

"Great, can you get ready to host the annual charity ball. And call Hailee….."

"Sir."

"Scratch that, don't call her. And if she calls tell her I am busy."

"Yes sir."

"And be ready to receive my grandmother, she said she will visit during lunch."

"Yes sir."

Cain was lying he knew, but he can always do the investigation himself when Kaleah slips up. He still needs to convince his family that Hailee is the right fit for him, she is witty, though annoying she is also smart. A perfect combination to a well-established man such as himself.

He had always skipped lunch because he was 'busy' but soon his grandmother started pestering to get better at taking care of his health. And she would send food every lunch time. An affectionate woman who had raised him and his little sister after losing her son tragically. To him Melisa Beckett was a hero, a hero to be protected at all costs.

He knows why she is visiting today; Hailee had been trying have a good relationship with grandmother lately, she had been going to the mansion regular to bamboozle her into accepting our relationship. A dumb thing to do considering she is not part of the family yet.

"There you are you left home without giving me a kiss." She walks in with a full bag if one could guess it must be a feast.

"You look as healthy as ever." 'And the healthier she is the longer I prolong my single life.' He thought, maybe it is because of is lingering eyes that had been caught in a trap of someone that is not his girlfriend, things hadn't looked good between him and Hailee since he was caught kissing her by Cyan.

"Don't start with me, you are getting married this year, no matter how healthy I am."

"You disapprove of the woman I want to marry grandmother."

She suspiciously smiles and put out all the food she had brought to the table. 'Ah, this is a bribe. Did Hailee perhaps succeed in her mission.' All his favourites adorn the table, beef stew and dumplings stare at his hungry face seductively.

"Dig in." his grandmother lay a final blow before he stuffs his face happily. What a blessing to have a grandmother this amazing.

Having enjoy the meal before listening to what his grandmother had to say was something he ought to call dumb if many had done it. But Clayton is too full of himself to admit that, as she cleans after his mess, he begins to feel anxious.

"So, that brat have been visiting me every day."

Melisa smiles, reminiscing the days Hailee had come proudly visiting her 'grandmother-in-law' and left crying. "listen here your old bag, you should let Clayton marry me or you will regret it." The fool who had almost convinced her she was good enough for her grandson said yesterday before storming of angrily. A fool who is about to lose her boyfriend indefinitely this weekend.

She smirks at her grandson, an expression that seems ambiguous. "I have found a suitable wife for you." Maybe Clayton should just admit it, he was dumb, so dumb he had let this woman fill him up with delicious food before her evil plan.

"But Hailee…."

"She didn't pass, she is too full of herself and has a big ego. It would never work Clayton; you have a big enough ego to last two people. I have found you a modest girl who loves you dearly."

"I will not do it."

"Is that so? Here, this is the place she will wait for you on the date this Saturday, once you meet her you have accepted my proposal of wanting you to marry her. if you do not go, then you will stay single forever." She glances at him with a disappointed face, " there is no way I am letting you marry that woman. Even in my grave I will haunt you."

Of course, Haile did something to anger grandmother yesterday, he had assumed by the way she acted. 'I took care of grandmother; she approves of our relationship' that is what she said. But she had made things worse.

"Cain!"

"Sir." Cain had known just by Mrs Beckett's posture when she left that trouble with ensure.

"Call Haile Leech and tell her to come here now."

"Oh, most definitely sir."

With the clouds and thunder, like they move with the emotions of his grandmother. He curses at the weather for being so bias, how come it never rains when he is the angry one. Hailee seats on the sofa of his office looking innocent, now he sees why all those men were able to fall for her tricks.
