9 Embarrassment

I totally, obviously forgot that we had swimming practice today. I'm not an especially good swimmer, but I don't suck either. When there's swimming practice, there's no religion so I don't have to deal with Mr. Rosewaal's scrawny ass and he doesn't have to deal with my beliefs which he say are "absurd" , so it is an absolute win-win.

When we walk from a brightly lit area to a slightly lit are, our eyes need time to adjust which we call light to dark adaptation. As I walk to the pool in my blue trunks, I can barely see.

"Watch out."

"Yeah" I stop, blinking a couple times.

"There there" he holds me by my shoulders.

"Kessler" I smile.

He smiles back. "Wassup mate?"

"Ae em greeeat. How's it going for ya?"

"It's swimming dammit. We've got to be good" he laughs.

We walk together to pick our swimming gears.

On our way back, we bump into Mia.

"Hey John" she flirts, attempting to get a hand on John.

"You may be shitty, but you got taste" he slaps her hand away.

I almost laught at his reply.

She stomps away.

"That was a good one" I slap him.

He snorts in response.

Walking to the swimming pool, I spot Amelia by the locker room. She looks..weak. I have barely finished thinking that when she falls to the ground, unconscious.

"Hey John" Jake fist bumps Kessler.

Jake Dew is a mate. Kessler's. He's cool, captain of the soccer team and is an adorable human being. Oh, we don't have time for introductions.

"Wassup Ben!"

I don't even stop to answer Jake and rush towards her.

"Dude"

"ou"

They follow me.

"I'll take her to the nurse. You two go ahead without me."

I lift her up and carry her to the nurse in the gentlest way possible. She isn't there. Ms.Linda rarely left the infirmary. I lay Amelia on the bed and head out to look for her. I had barely taken a step further when she grabs my arm – a tight clasp. I feel that she's warm – warmer than before. No, she's burning. She has a fever. But I only just carried her here. She didn't have a fever just now.

"Do–n go" she manages somehow.

"Jeez! What a bother."

But now that she's said it, I couldn't leave her all alone. That won't be a very gentlemanly thing to do. Also, we did become friends right? I sit by her and wait for Ms.Linda. I watch her chest move up and down as she breathes, holding my hand with all her little might. As much of a sinful thought it is, she looks beautiful, just lying there. I smile at her reliance on me. It's not everyone that i can see and it's not everyday that someone so beautiful relies on me.

Ms. Linda comes like 10 minutes later. I was honestly worried by then. Amelia was burning! I narrate Ms.Linda the whole, very confusing turn of events and she tells me it's probably the temperature and that she's probably dehydrated. She tells me Amelia will be fine in sometime so I decide to leave. But I don't know what God wants and how he's playing His game, she doesn't let go of my hand. Ms.Linda tries too. No fruitfulness. I look at her all confused. She smirks at me.

"It's not what you think it is" I say.

"Sure isn't" she laughs "looking at you says enough".

I stand up, ready to protest when I feel a sudden warmth crawl to my cheeks. That's when I realise I'm only wearing my swimming trunks.

"We had swimming practice!" I say, embarrassed.

She laughs some more.

I suck my sentences up and just sit back down.
