16 A trip to memory lane

Although the reason was different, Alex returned back home in a daze too. The way that old man was killed was too gruesome. Poor man.

He still remembers, the same time at Christmas, his parents also died. Alex was 15 that time and he wanted to go with his friends and attend a party for adults. His mother denied him and he argued with her.

He was sitting in his room with the door closed. So they had to go to buy the Christmas tree. But they never came back. Only the news of their accident came later.

Anna, was already asleep tired of waiting for her parents as she was just 8 at that time. When he received the na news he became paralyzed there. If her neighbour Aunt Sharron and Mike hadn't come. He would have remained like that till morning.

He still doesn't know, how he reached there. Who dragged him to that room. He even Saint know where was he. His vision was completely blurred with the tears he shed. And with trembling hands, he had reached for their body. But then he hugged them with all his might. He apologised to them, coaxed them, pleaded to than and at the end even shouted at them to come back.

But they didn't listen. They turned deaf ear to his prayers and cries. They laid there forgetting about their responsibilities towards him. Their love for their small daughter. They forgot their promises to take them to the amusement park. He shouted that they have forgotten everything.

They call him irresponsible. Now, who is the irresponsible one? But the one who is gone once can never come back. He laid there the whole time until he lost consciousness.

He woke up in a hospital Anna slept on the seat beside his bed. Clutching his hand tightly as if she is afraid that he would also leave her alone in this world.

His moving body woke her up and she started crying. He took her in his arms and hugged her with all his might. And they both cried for their loss.

If it weren't for Aunt Sharron support then he wouldn't have been able to handle everything alone, she taught him cooking and how to do other chores.

When he left the school and did the job as a waiter, she was the one who helped him in handling Anna. But soon cancer took hold of her and he had to send Anna to boarding school.

He didn't want a nine-year-old girl to do everything by herself. She is the only one left to him. He was thinking about the past when a ball suddenly hit him.

That's when he noticed, he was sitting in the park at the back of his apartment building. He was so much lost in his thoughts that he didn't even notice when and how did he reach there.

He even didn't notice that his eyes already has some instead tears left. He looks at the time. It was already noon. At 5 in the evening, he has to go to school to bring Anna.

Since some time is left, he would cook a good meal for her precious sister. He stood up and went to the lift and entered his home.

The moment he entered he could smell the fragrance in the air. He sniffed, sure it is coming from his kitchen. But as far as he knew Mike could only cook basic dishes.

He followed the smell and entered the kitchen and he can't believe his eyes that the girl who can't even talk properly is the one cooking.

While Mike was giving her instructions from time to time. He tilted his head and leaned on the door.

"Now turn the dish into a roll. And then steam it for ten minutes. In the mean time you can prepare the curry." Continued Mike unaware of Alex presence.

Bit bella stopped and turned immediately. This a also caught Mikes attention. "What are you two doing? Trying to burn my kitchen." Since they already discovered him he could only ask.

"Hey from which eye did you saw us burning anything. We have made steamed chicken rice and honey chili potatoes. But if you think its burnt. You can cook anything else for you." He said with a smirk.

"Like we have that much money to waste." He said shaking his head.

"Come lets eat fast, then we have to go and pick up Anna. It's her holidays from today." He said washing his hands and taking dishwasher from the table.

"Wait,I am going to eat with my mother. Then we can go together. She is feeling better today." Said Mike taking a portion im the container.

Alex stopped in his tracks and said, "we can all eat there together, it's been a long time I have eaten with Aunt Sharron." At which Mike nodded and smiled.

"But if Anna is going to be free till 5. You could have completed your one shift and bring her directly. Why waste time and money going here and there."

"Do you think only you have the brains? My holiday have started" he replied with a snort.
