Take responsibility

The kind aunty is so attentive to her and it made her want to stay longer in this hospital. They did not let her watch any news in fear that in might evoke unpleasant memories. At night, she had terrifying nightmares and she quietly sobbed in her sleep and couldn't help waking up in profuse sweat. Once awake she continued to cry silently, refusing to cause any more scene as she fear she caused more stress to the kind aunty and the sickly boy.

Once she got hold of her emotions, she would look up and only to see him staring back at her silently. He then gestured her to walk over to him. She took her blanket and wrapped it around her small body, groggily she walked towards him. He had this commanding aura that was hard to deny or resist.

"Nightmares?" he whispered in a low voice, afraid he might wake his mother up.

She just nod her head furiously. He then gestured for her to climb up and lay next to him. She shook her head, while pointing at all the tubes stuck to his skin. He gave her a weak but reassuring smile that it will be alright. He patted the empty space next to him again. After a moment of silent and standstill she decided to obey. She really did not want to sleep alone. She had always slept in between her parents. She felt safe when she hears their heart beats close to her ears.

Gently she climbed up, making sure to avoid the intravenous lines connected to him. She settled down next to him and placed her head on his shoulder. It turns out he is much taller than she is. The sound of his heart beat against her ear, calmed her wrecking and anxious nerves.

"Sleep," he ordered her. She looked up to him and stared at him with both eyes wide and then she planted a kiss on his cheek like she always does to her parents and said, "Good night."

She then fell asleep oblivious that her action had made a young boy's heart race furiously and his face flushed red. He never felt so alive, he had been feeling sick and unwell for the past few years that he really did not feel like he have the energy to persist. The only reason he is still hanging on is because he knows if he gives up his parents especially his mother would be so heart broken. Now, staring at the girl that somehow managed to tug a string in his heart, he wants to live and be healthy.

"Little girl, you really need to take responsibility on this young master when we are older. I am never going to let you go." He whispered into her ears. Due to his illness, he somehow grew up a little mature than peers his age. Hence, it wasn't a normal for him to be thinking about his future at such young age. In fact, since he was three years old, he had been groomed to be a fine young man in order to prepare him as he is the next heir of his prestigious family. He fell asleep with a smile on his face.

The next morning, the nurse who came in to take vital signs for the two little VIP patient sounded the alarm and woke the sleeping Madam Shen up, she was frantic because the little miss Du is not is her bed. Madam Shen's first reaction was to look at her son and ensure he was safe and sound. She was caught off guard by the image of him smiling in his sleep, it shocked her to the core but it didn't stop her from fishing out her mobile phone to snap a picture. He had not smiled in the last three years. She then felt like his posture was a bit weird and his silhouette was off, but she just could not figure out what, she pulled down his blanket gently and was shocked even further because her son was embracing the missing little girl. His arms were protectively around her. She could not resist but to take another shot with her phone's camera.

She then calmly informed the frantic nurse and told the nurse to let the two be. She guessed that Ru Ran must have some kind of nightmare and her son took the initiative to invite her to sleep beside him. She knew her son well, if he dislike a person, no matter how strong or willful the other party is, as long as he doesn't approve, he will never allow the other person to even take a step closer.
