8 Fresh start and a new life: Part -1

"Look at you! It's all because of you, my dear. You came into our lives and made it so bright. Everything is turning out in our favor," Kara held Dina close to her face and kissed her cheeks.

Usually, during normal times, Kara would have rushed to Emma and hugged her tightly. And the kiss would have actually landed on Emma's cheeks or lips instead of the baby's. All Emma could do now was to let out a sigh as she got envious of Dina.

"Don't you know you cannot kiss the baby so many times? She may get allergic reactions as her skin is too delicate. Also, your saliva is not good for the baby. It may have lots of germs and bacteria that may harm the baby," Emma complained without hiding the jealous feeling in her voice.

Kara ignored her envy tone and stood up from the sofa. She embraced Emma while holding Dina in one hand. Then she pecked on Emma's lips and glanced at her with lovely eyes.

"I was so worried earlier that we might need to stay in this city for two more months. I understand the consequences we need to face for what I did but I couldn't leave the baby alone in the hospital. You stood by my side and helped me with this crazy decision of mine. You are the best, sweetheart! You are also my lucky charm! I love you," Kara kissed her lips one more time and cuddled in Emma's arms.

The next second she looked down at Dina and whispered, "Don't worry, I love you more. We need to keep this Mommy entertained all the time or else, she will feel lonely."

"I am still standing here," Emma muttered.

"Oops…" Kara pouted her mouth and started to giggle.

Even though the happiness that Kara expressed now was not completed for her, Emma was not hurt. She nodded her head in understanding, as she was aware that what they did was actually a crime. So, the sooner they leave this city, the better for all of them.

"Pack your things along with mine. We are leaving today as soon as I come back from the hospital. I will inform the senior doctor that I could not come to work from tomorrow onwards." Emma said.

Kara blinked her eyes as Emma just informed her that they need to stay for one more week. Her sudden change of mind confused Kara. Looking at the befuddled Kara, Emma explained,

"It's just a week. I can ask them to shift all my work to someone else. Anyway, this last week is like a buffer for the transition. First, I will go back and finish all the formalities for both of us. So, hand me your resignation letter fast. I will give it to Mariah. I don't think she will say no to your departure as she was well aware of what we did. I know you would feel uncomfortable to go back there. I will take care of everything, so you can only worry about our baby," Emma patted her back and assured her.

"Okay! Even though I said it already, I am still saying it one more time. You are the best." She kissed her cheeks and gave her a thumbs up.

"I know!" Emma agreed with her with a smug look.

Emma handed the paper back to Kara that had the list of things needed for the baby.

"This one... we won't need it for now. Keep it with you… It will come in handy once we go to our new home," Emma stated.

Kara nodded her head and started to scribble on the paper. She felt sad that she had to resign from the hospital she worked for so many years.

"You did say that Ava already packed the necessities for a week or so? If you need anything urgent then let me know, I will buy them on my way back. But please do not give me a long list like this one," Emma begged.

Kara smiled and gave her the resignation letter she wrote. Kara never in her wild dreams thought that she would easily let go of her career so easily. But she didn't regret it. Until Dina and Emma were with her, she didn't need anything else.

"We don't need anything urgently right now. Also, I don't think we will be able to pack everything. We might have to leave a few things behind," Kara said.

"Alright then, pack only the necessities. Remaining, I will ask the landlord to take care of it." Emma nodded her head and agreed with Kara.

Emma left only after making sure that both Kara and the baby would be safe inside the apartment. Before leaving, she advised Kara to not open the door to anyone.

"I know the passcode. So, I can enter without knocking on the door. If you are tired then take some rest. It may take a long time for me to finish all the formalities. Also, do not go out until I come back." Emma strictly instructed her and gave several other suggestions before leaving.

Kara nodded her head for everything and listened to her carefully. Once Emma left, She placed Dina on the mattress in the guest room. Then she went to the kitchen to prepare some formula milk for the baby. Dina didn't cry and stayed quiet while looking around the room.

A Few shadows lurked around the baby but she was not afraid of them. They were whispering something near her ears. She tried to move her arms all the sides to make them stop murmuring.

Once Kara entered the room, they all disappeared. She fed Dina her food and burped her. When she started to sing lullabies, Dina listened to them happily and dozed off in a few minutes.

When Kara saw that Dina had dozed off, she left the room. Immediately, the shadows returned and stood around Dina.

By the time, everything was settled, it was already late in the evening. As they did not want to delay anymore, the family of three started their journey by car around ten O'clock at night.

"Did you keep everything inside the car?" Kara asked Emma.

"Yes! Also, I spoke to the landlord and asked him to throw away the remaining stuff that we couldn't bring." Emma replied to her.

Suddenly both of them became emotional to leave the place they got fond of. But when they heard Dina's gurgling, they both snapped out of their daze and got into the car.

"You naughty baby. Are you in a hurry to leave behind your past?" Kara asked and tickled Dina.

"Gurlble… Gurgle… Bla... Bla…" Dina replied in her sweet baby voice.

"Look at you... Try to speak. Aren't you the smart baby?" Kara bent down to kiss her but stopped midway.

"I won't kiss you so much from now on. Only once a day I will kiss you... No two times... One in the morning after you woke up and another at night before you go to sleep," Kara announced.

"What about the times she is going to sleep in the day? Are you not going to kiss her then? So how about you give those kisses to me? Why not let's start practicing now?" Emma asked her.
