Hachiman, a 17-year-old boy from Japan, a self-proclaimed loner, dreams of being a Pokémon breeder, forced by his teacher to enter a club that will change his life

Reflecting on My Life at Pokémon High School
By Hachiman Hikigaya, Class 2-F
Youth, the place where young people decide their path and Pokémon pave the way, is a lie that governments use to control us alongside Pokémon.
Youth is a lie, it is evil. Those who unnecessarily celebrate their teenage years and dream of reaching the pinnacle of trainers are wasting their lives. They are not only lying to themselves but to everyone around them. The principles of being the best that no one else can be are simple lies. Just look at the number of trainers in the world and the few we can call professionals.
Such a small number should make everyone understand their place in this world. Lies, deception, secrets, and fraud are all that the ideal of a Pokémon adventure represents. Lies that all young people believe and those who propagate this hoax are the greater evil.
On the other hand, people who decide to step aside beforehand and not maintain the deception, those people are truly right in this magical world. In conclusion, Pokémon trainers, go explode for the sake of Arceus.

"Do it again."
"What?"
That was Hachiman Hikigaya's response, a 17-year-old from Sobu High School who dreams of becoming a Pokémon breeder.
"Don't give me a 'What?' with such an apathetic voice."
The voice of a woman in front of Hachiman spoke with a sigh.
"Hikigaya, supposedly, I asked for a report on 'retrospective of my student life as a Pokémon trainer,' and instead, I receive the prelude to a possible school incident."
The woman expressing concern about Hachiman Hikigaya's work was his teacher and student advisor, Shizuka Hiratsuka, who taught Japanese language and Pokémon combat.
"You wouldn't be exaggerating; it's just the opinion of a future breeder. People your age might not understand current trends."
Hachiman calmly spoke before feeling the wall crack, and his whole body paralyzed with fear as he saw a humanoid figure with a terrifying appearance throw a punch.
"Machoke!"
The humanoid figure pronounced, glaring at Hachiman.
"Goriky, calm down; he's still a student and can make mistakes," Shizuka said with a smile that doubled the fear in Hachiman's body.
"Nothing, I apologize for everything."
"Row."
Hachiman quickly retracted, and the small owl that had come out of his jacket—Hachiman's Rowlet—seemed to be freshly awakened by its behavior.
"Oh, did I wake you up, Moku? You can go back to sleep, precious thing."
Shizuka spoke with a friendly voice, and the Flying-Grass-type Pokémon reacted gently as it hid back in Hachiman's jacket.
"How can someone so cute have such an apathetic trainer?"
"Not all of us can have Pokémon like your..."
Hachiman couldn't finish his sentence because Shizuka and Machoke gave him a deathly glare, making him immediately fall silent.
"Changing the subject, Hachiman, if I recall correctly, you don't belong to any club."
"That's right."
"And besides your Pokémon, you don't have any friends."
"I consider myself impartial, someone who can't bring themselves to have relationships with others and prefers Pokémon."
Hachiman spoke with pride, a fragile pride easily shattered by Shizuka's words.
"In other words, you don't have any, that's perfect," Shizuka expressed excitedly, leaving Hachiman bewildered.
"A teacher shouldn't say that," Hachiman nervously expressed due to Shizuka's proximity.
"Don't worry, come with me for a moment."
With those words, Shizuka and Hachiman left the teacher's lounge in an unknown direction. As they walked, Hachiman began to analyze the environment. Sobu High School was not only one of the best schools in the country, despite its simple square appearance. It wasn't the school's appearance that made it one of the best, but rather its teachers and students, much like the Pokémon that accompanied them.
Normies, as Hachiman called them, were the ones who made the school one of the best in the country, along with their accompanying Pokémon. Hachiman could observe through the window to the courtyard where humans and Pokémon coexisted, enjoying their youth.
On a normal day like today, humans and Pokémon, which were quite strong in Hachiman's breeder eyes, enjoyed lunch, spent time together, laughed, shouted, and went through awkward teenage dramas. They were all evil, even more so for involving their poor Pokémon in this cycle of lies, deceit, betrayals, and unimaginable things driven by human greed, all protected under the name of youth.
And the antithesis of all this evil was none other than Hachiman, who had opened his eyes to the wickedness of the world. Someone who, in public, avoided getting involved with others, living in solitude, loving solitude, and dying in solitude, only with the company of his Pokémon – a life deemed the only worthy life according to Hachiman's thoughts, a life that others could only reject.
These people looked with fear, or even respect, at those who had seen the true meaning of life, honorably calling them "the loner."
"Are you muttering something, Hachiman?" Shizuka asked while her Machoke looked disdainfully at Hachiman.
"Damn, maybe I said it out loud," Hachiman thought while trying to quickly change the subject.
"Oh, nothing, I was just wondering where you were taking me."
"Well, as you know, I'm a teacher, and my job is to discipline wayward students to help them get back on track. So, I thought that since you want to be a breeder, some voluntary service could help you as a punishment."
The word 'service' didn't please Hachiman much. Don't think it's because he disliked Pokémon; on the contrary, he adored them for being genuine creatures. His disdain for service was about interacting with humans and how unpleasant they could be.
While Hachiman pondered this, his teacher stopped in front of a door and caught Hachiman's attention. Seeing that the door seemed to lead to a regular active classroom, Hachiman's survival instincts kicked in.
"Hiratsuka-sensei, I have an unknown illness that prevents me from entering rooms without prior notice to my doctor, or I'll die," Hachiman declared as he turned away, only to be grabbed by Shizuka's Machoke.
"Macho."
"Goriky, sensei?"
"Hold the liar and bring him, Goriky," Shizuka instructed as Machoke lifted Hachiman and carried him to the side like a sack of potatoes.
"Be a man and face things, Hachiman," Shizuka expressed as she opened the door, and Machoke entered first, leaving Hachiman's body inside the room.
"I would have preferred another way to enter..."
Hachiman expressed as he straightened out the wrinkles in his clothes and glanced toward the classroom. His gaze became lost, as if time had stopped, while a voice echoed in the background.
"Yukinoshita, are you there?"
At that moment, Hachiman's troubled life had found fascination. All of this happened as the wind swayed the hair of a girl with long black hair and a slender figure who was reading a book. Below her, peacefully sleeping, was a Pokémon that could be associated with cats, but if they were made of ice.
"Sensei, I thought I asked you to knock on the door before entering," spoke the girl who responded to the name Yukinoshita.
"Ah, you had told me that. I apologize and hope I didn't wake up your Glaceon."
"Don't worry, sensei. Glacia is still sleeping like a log."
"I'm glad. Oh, I almost forgot. Hachiman, allow me to introduce you to Yukino Yukinoshita."
Hachiman had heard that name before. She was nothing less than Sobu's top female student, not only in appearance but also in skill, being one of the strongest trainers of her age in all of Chiba. Hachiman had even heard that she had won state tournaments.
A beauty not only in appearance but also in ability had captured the attention of many boys and even girls who had declared their love, but all had been rejected by the ice queen.
"So, that's the Glaceon that managed to defeat three fire types without falling," Hachiman thought as he looked towards Glaceon sleeping comfortably on the floor.
Then, he turned his gaze back to Yukino Yukinoshita.
"Why is a celebrity like her doing here?" was Hachiman's thought as he looked towards the girl.
"Then may I know who the stupefied boy over there is?" Yukino asked as she directed her gaze towards Hachiman, who wasn't expecting to be called stupefied.
"Oh, this boy, I forgot I brought him," Shizuka said, laughing, a small joke from the teacher to lighten the mood, but no one found it amusing, not even her Machoke.
"Cough, this stupefied boy here is Hachiman Hikigaya, a student from Class 2-F, and he'll be the new member of this club."
"Exactly, my name is Hachiman Hikigaya, and I want to join this club... wait, what?" Hachiman quickly expressed, understanding what had been said, and immediately looked at his teacher, who was making a peace sign.
"You will join this club as you heard, Hachiman. This is your punishment for writing that horrible report."
Shizuka's words generated immense confusion in the two young people who couldn't comprehend what they had heard.
"And that's why, Yukinoshita, I entrust this boy to you. As you can see, he's a young man rotten to the core, and that has turned him into a loner who hurts the eyes with his misery."
"And as the best female trainer in the school, I trust that you can transform him into a good man who can get along with others and achieve his dream of being a breeder."
"My personality has no problem with being a breeder. I want to get along with Pokémon, not with humans," Hachiman thought as he turned to look at Yukino.
"And I'm starting to understand Sensei's plan. Basically, her plan is to use a beautiful girl my age so that my heterosexual genes surface and control me like a simp. But I'm much smarter and stronger than those normies who would fall into this honey trap."
Hachiman thought as he sharpened his eyes, his secret weapon to scare people away.
"So before her evil plan happens, Sensei, I'll use my evil eye to make this girl scared and hate me."
Then Hachiman gave his fiercest look to Yukino, who, upon seeing it, only narrowed her eyes, completely immune to Hachiman's attack as if she were using the Intimidate ability to lower all of Hachiman's offense.
"It's not a Milotic; it's a Gyarados," Hachiman thought in terror as he looked away.
"I refuse, Sensei. I don't feel safe having an uncontrollable beast more dangerous than any Pokémon around. I feel that my life or my integrity is in danger being close to his presence," Yukino pronounced all that while covering her modest front, which made Hachiman visibly annoyed because his gaze had never gone to that modest space.
"Relax, Yukino. It may seem dangerous, but it's a herbivore pretending to be a thug, and nothing bad will happen that you can't control."
"Who are you calling a herbivore? I'm a healthy boy my age with self-control, not a eunuch," Hachiman thought.
"A herbivore, I see."
"Don't accept so quickly, woman," was Hachiman's second thought.
"But still, a thug remains a thug, so I'll have to decline your proposal, Sensei." Yukino's words made Hachiman sigh with relief; he didn't want to be in the pond with a Gyarados.
"I knew you would say that, Yukinoshita. But do you know that both young ones looked seriously into each other's eyes, and do you know there was an ancient saying respected in the old days for such an event? If two trainers lock eyes, they will face a Pokémon battle," Shizuka expressed while making a peace sign.
"Sensei, that's a very archaic thought that perhaps only a woman of your age can understand... awwwww," Hachiman expressed with pain as his shoulder was crushed by Shizuka's grip, even stronger than that of her Machoke.
"As a teacher at Sobu, I can authorize any Pokémon battle on the premises, and in this case, I'll use my authority as a teacher to resolve this dispute. If Yukinoshita wins this battle, I'll respect your wish, and I won't let Hachiman join. However, Hachiman will receive triple the tasks for the duration of his presence in this school."
Hearing that, Hachiman was completely terrified, and Yukino smiled.
"But if Hachiman wins, he can enroll in this club and avoid the tasks," Shizuka announced while smiling and walking towards the center of the classroom to act as a judge, activating a watch from her pocket to turn the classroom into a Pokémon battlefield.
"Well, in that situation, I can't say no, and a little exercise would do Glacia good, don't you think, Glacia?"
"Glac," responded Yukino's just-awoken Glaceon as it walked towards the battlefield, standing in front of Yukino and stretching to loosen its muscles.
"Well, I can't fight against a corrupt system, and I don't want to do triple tasks, so Moku, let's get to work," Hachiman declared as his owl Pokémon emerged from his jacket, yawning, and with a jump, it stood in front of Hachiman while preening its wings.
"A Rowlet, it seems the type advantage smiles at me, so I'll let you go," Yukino confidently declared while her Glaceon shared her attitude.
"I'll take it; I hope you don't regret it," Hachiman declared as his Rowlet assumed a battle stance.
"The rules will be simple. It will be a three vs. three battle, and the winner will be decided by who keeps the last Pokémon standing," Shizuka said as she took her referee position and raised her hand.
"Ready?" receiving nods from both, she quickly lowered her hand and shouted, "Go
"Moku, use Double Team," was Hachiman's command to his Rowlet as it began to split into several copies surrounding Glaceon.
"It seems you have knowledge of my Glaceon to not have attacked, but don't think that scares us," he expressed while looking at his Glaceon.
"Glacia, Ice Beam all the Rowlet copies," Yukino quickly commanded. Glaceon swiftly began to charge an Ice Beam and launched it at each Rowlet copy, destroying each one.
"She's fast," thought Hachiman nervously as the copies disappeared quickly.
"Moku, quickly use Foresight while taking flight," Hachiman ordered swiftly. Before the Ice Beam hit, Rowlet soared into the air, black question marks appearing above its head.
"Don't let it power up; jump and hit it with a Shadow Ball," Yukino ordered. Glaceon, following the command, leaped quite high and positioned itself in front of Rowlet while charging a Shadow Ball.
"Rowlet, respond with Energy Ball," Hachiman ordered as Rowlet's beak began to charge a green energy ball. It quickly collided with the dark ball Glaceon launched.
The explosion was quite powerful, sending both Pokémon to the ground due to the force.
"Moku/Glacia!" both trainers shouted, worried about the impact of the explosion, but both Pokémon quickly stood up from the clash.
"Even with Foresight and STAB, I matched the strength of my attack. That Glaceon deserves its reputation," thought Hachiman, and the same thought passed through Yukino's mind.
"It looks fragile and cute, but that Rowlet is quite strong. He may be rotten, but he's a great trainer," Yukino thought.
"Moku, use Double Team again," Hachiman ordered again as Rowlet split into copies once more.
"That won't work again. Glaceon, prepare a massive Shadow Ball and split it to hit all the Rowlet copies," Yukino expressed, expecting Hachiman's reaction. He was surprised as he watched the small Pokémon conjure a huge ball of darkness, which, upon exploding, released small shadow balls that began to destroy each Rowlet copy in a single strike.
It even hit the real Rowlet, making it step back.
"I didn't expect that by weakening the strength of the Shadow Ball, it could destroy each copy and immediately hit Rowlet," worriedly thought Hachiman as his Pokémon's main strategy was neutralized.
"Damn, I don't want to do extra tasks. Now I'll have to go on the offensive," was his thought as he looked at his Rowlet, which had quickly gotten up from the attack.
"Moku, take flight and in the air, launch an Air Slash on my signal," Hachiman expressed as Rowlet took flight and began to fly above Glaceon.
"Glacia, stay alert," Yukino expressed as she awaited Hachiman's signal to attack. The seemingly eternal seconds tested Yukino's concentration, and before an attack order was issued, Hachiman moved first.
"Now!" was Hachiman's shout, and taking advantage of Yukino's distraction, Rowlet conjured an air sphere, launching it directly at Glaceon, hitting her squarely and sending her flying.
"Glaceon!" was Yukino's concerned cry as her Glaceon was sent flying.
"That was clever, taking advantage of Yukino's excessive focus to catch her off guard and deliver a direct blow," exclaimed an amazed Shizuka, watching the battle with excitement.
"Moku, before she recovers, let's finish this... Energy Ball," Hachiman quickly expressed as Rowlet conjured the green energy sphere from its beak and swiftly launched it towards Glaceon.
The attack hit Glaceon directly, but instead of exploding as Hachiman expected, the attack remained on Glaceon's head. At that moment, Hachiman's confident demeanor shifted to a serious one.
"So, she was quick enough..." Hachiman expressed, astonished, while Yukino smiled.
"Good girl, now retaliate with Mirror Coat," Yukino pronounced, swiftly returning the energy sphere towards Rowlet.
"Dodge!" Hachiman quickly shouted, and Rowlet narrowly avoided the attack. However, in that moment, both Hachiman and Moku did not anticipate Glaceon appearing rapidly in front of them.
"Glacia, finish this battle with a quick Ice Beam," Yukino yelled as Glaceon swiftly unleashed a point-blank Ice Beam that completely froze Rowlet. It fell to the ground, the ice breaking as Rowlet emerged completely weakened.
"Rowlet can no longer continue. The winner of the first battle is Yukino Yukinoshita," announced Shizuka, as a red light absorbed Rowlet and disappeared from the battlefield.
"It was a good fight, Moku. Now rest," Hachiman expressed as he stored Rowlet's Poké Ball and started to retrieve another one.
"Don't feel bad; your Rowlet was quite strong. Few Pokémon make my Glaceon exert itself as it did in this battle," said Yukino as she reached into her backpack for a Hyper Potion and used it to heal her Glaceon's battle fatigue.
"Whoa, a Hyper Potion. She's really well-off," thought Hachiman as he took out his second Poké Ball.
"Jime, come out and win this battle," Hachiman pronounced as he released his second Pokémon, a chameleon-like figure with a blue color and a bored expression that resembled Hachiman's gaze.
"Oh, a Drizzile, and one that looks a lot like its trainer," Yukino exclaimed, a sentiment that also crossed Shizuka's mind.
"Many say that, but Jime is much stronger than me, and he's going to prove it. Use Mud Shot," Hachiman shouted as Drizzile charged a mud bullet on its finger and swiftly launched it, surprising Yukino, who did not expect such a fast attack.
"Glaceon, Mirror Co..." Yukino couldn't finish the command because Glaceon took the hit directly and was sent flying, making her stagger back. A single blow had greatly affected Glaceon, and Yukino realized it immediately.
"What power in that shot. If Glaceon hadn't been healed beforehand, it would have fallen with a single blow," was Yukino's thought as she observed her Pokémon's battered state.
"It seems that one shot wasn't enough. Jime, Mud Shot again," as Drizzile loaded another shot, Yukino, now more prepared, acted much faster.
"Glacia, create a wall with Ice Beam," Yukino expressed quickly as Glaceon launched her Ice Beam onto the ground, forming a thick ice wall.
The wall resisted the impact of the earth attack quite well, proving the strength of Drizzile. Yukino's face showed confidence, thinking she had managed to stop the ground attack. However, that assurance did not last long as a smile quickly appeared on Hachiman's face, putting Yukino on alert.
"Jime, use Weather Ball," Drizzile, without losing its position, began charging a gray ball that suddenly transformed into a fireball.
"Glacia, Mirror Coat quickly," Yukino reacted swiftly, ordering Glaceon to prepare to return the blow. It was a risky but correct prediction, as the ice wall quickly melted without diminishing the strength of Weather Ball, and Glaceon managed to receive it with Mirror Coat.
Before she could return it, both trainer and Pokémon realized that Drizzile had disappeared from their line of sight due to the vapor from the clash of Weather Ball and the ice wall. Yukino quickly searched for the Pokémon's presence before Glaceon's resistance ran out. Before finding any clues, she heard Hachiman's command.
"Finish it with Water Pulse," Hachiman calmly said as a watery blue sphere appeared beside Glaceon and was launched directly from her side by Drizzile, who had become visible again.
Boom!
The combination of both attacks caused a massive explosion that cleared away all the vapor. Once the scene became visible again, only a defeated Glaceon was observed in the center.
"Glaceon can't continue. The winner of the second battle is Hachiman Hikigaya," Shizuka announced, pointing to Hachiman.
"Taking advantage of your Pokémon's strength and the environment, you quickly destroyed my protection strategy with an ice wall. Not only that, but you used it to create the perfect hiding place by using the vapor from the melted liquid to overwhelm my Glacia," were Yukino's words as she returned Glaceon to her Poké Ball.
"I told you, Jime is like me, but a hundred times stronger," Hachiman nervously expressed, not expecting praise from a cute girl on this day.
"I'll keep that in mind. Now it's time for me to take the lead again, and therefore, I need your help, Lia," Yukino shouted as she released her second Pokémon, from which emerged a small green dancer.
"Oh, a Kirlia. Psychics are always troublesome," Hachiman honestly expressed, while Shizuka observed the two Pokémon on the field.
"I was hoping that Hachiman would manage to take down one of Yukino's Pokémon, but I didn't expect her to bring out her Kirlia so soon. That must signal that she probably has her two powerhouses as her third option. Unless Hachiman surprises me, I might not be able to defeat them," worriedly thought Shizuka, hoping that Yukino would bring out her Delcatty instead of her Kirlia, as that would provide a chance for a second victory and prior preparation to defeat Yukino's Kirlia if Hachiman's Drizzile remained in play.
"Didn't expect Kirlia so soon, a Pokémon that Shizuka recognizes as quite strong, having almost defeated the instructor's Pokémon during her test. Yukino's Kirlia moved gracefully across the battlefield while Drizzile observed it seriously. Both Pokémon immediately recognized each other's strength.
"I've been kind enough; it's time to finish this, Lia. Use Magical Leaf!" Yukino shouted as Kirlia conjured leaves of various colors and launched them directly at Drizzile.
"Jime, respond with Weather Ball," was Hachiman's order, which Drizzile quickly followed as it conjured a sphere of heat that collided immediately with the rain of leaves, neutralizing both attacks.
"I knew it wouldn't be easy. Kirlia, teleport behind Drizzile!" Without Hachiman being able to react, Kirlia vanished from his sight and appeared behind Drizzile.
"What..." Without Hachiman or Drizzile being able to react, Kirlia was behind them, raising two fingers, as if anticipating its trainer's order, aiming at Drizzile.
"Lia, use Psybeam!" Then, a powerful psychic attack emerged from Kirlia's two fingers, cleanly connecting with Drizzile's body and sending it backward from the impact, to Hachiman's surprised gaze.
"Jime!" was Hachiman's shout to his companion, who quickly got up, showing immense pain from the direct hit.
"Seems fragile, but it's quite resilient," Yukino expressed, amazed, hoping that one blow would have been enough to defeat Drizzile.
"Jime is a tough one. Now, Jime, Mud Shot!" Hachiman quickly shouted as Drizzile recovered from the pain, pointing its finger and shooting a quick earth ball.
"Predictable. Lia, teleport and appear to the right side of Drizzile!" Yukino ordered as Kirlia disappeared again, completely avoiding Drizzile's attack.
"To your right, Jime!" Hachiman quickly ordered as Drizzile turned to find Kirlia. However, before Hachiman could give any further orders, Yukino intervened.
"Lia, teleport to its left side!" Again, Kirlia vanished to reappear on Drizzile's left side. Raising its fingers, it aimed at Drizzile, and before Hachiman could react:
"Lia, use Psybeam!" Yukino commanded, and a psychic energy ray from the left side hit Drizzile, sending it flying.
The impact was once again direct, leaving Drizzile completely damaged. With sheer willpower, it managed to stay on its feet."
"A direct hit, and it'll be the end of Jime. I'm cornered," thought Hachiman as he looked at his wounded companion. Jime returned his gaze, hoping Hachiman would come up with a solution to the predicament.
"Two direct hits from Lia's Psybeam, that willpower is admirable... but I enjoy the silence of the club, so I must win this. Lia, let's finish this battle with another teleportation to its left side," Yukino declared as Kirlia vanished and reappeared on the left side. Following the pattern from the previous attack, Yukino changed the teleportation direction to the opposite side, leaving her opponent bewildered.
A simple yet effective strategy, as only trainers with vast experience could recover from the psychological blow to react to the second teleportation and defend themselves.
"Finish it with Psi..." But before Yukino could conclude the battle, caught in desperation, Hachiman shouted the following.
"Jime, use Tearful Look!" A powerful wail emanated from Drizzile, accompanied by completely fake tears streaming down its face. What seemed like a desperate move achieved its purpose, distracting Kirlia for a few seconds while lowering its combat spirit.
"Now, Jime, use Water Pulse at full power!" Hachiman shouted as Drizzile rapidly conjured a massive water sphere and, with the force of its Sniper ability, unleashed the attack with all its might, hitting Kirlia directly and sending it flying backward.
"Lia!" Yukino exclaimed in astonishment, watching her Pokémon fall. Upon hitting the ground due to the force of the blow, Kirlia was completely defeated. However, the excess of power took its toll on Drizzile, which fell completely powerless before Hachiman could do anything.
"Drizzile and Kirlia are both out of the battle; the result of this round is a tie," Shizuka announced as both Pokémon were returned to their trainers' arms.
"We managed to get a tie, Jime, good job," Hachiman expressed while returning his Pokémon to its Pokéball.
"Even you, Lia. It was my mistake not to take advantage of the second moment to use Magical Leaf instead of Psychic Ray," Yukino admitted her error, acknowledging that she had been carried away by the advantage they were having, leading to her defeat.
"Don't feel bad, Yukino. It was Drizzile's immense willpower that brought this match to a tie, but most likely, a Magical Leaf at that distance would have been too much for Drizzile to endure," thought Shizuka, inclined that Hachiman's luck and Yukino's pride led to this tie.
"You both have one Pokémon left, so everything will be decided in this battle," Shizuka declared as both young individuals looked nervously at each other, knowing that their third Pokémon was somewhat of a novice. Both had the bad habit of having a novice as their third Pokémon—Hachiman due to the habit of giving up after losing the second battle, and Yukino because, outside an official tournament, she wasn't accustomed to losing her second battle.
"I don't want to do extra homework, so let's go all out... Fushide," Hachiman declared as he was the first to throw his Pokéball, releasing a red insect-like Pokémon resembling a centipede but much larger.
"A Venipede. We might have an advantage, but we shouldn't get overconfident, Niev," Yukino responded as she released her Pokéball, summoning a Vulpix. Unlike the more common Vulpix, this one was white.
"A polar Vulpix, how cute it is, and it seems to be a cub," Shizuka exclaimed, captivated by the Pokémon's beauty.
"It might be a novice, Fushide, but we shouldn't let our guard down..." Hachiman expressed concern about the Ice-type Vulpix.
"Veni," responded Venipede as it assumed a battle stance.
"You heard them, Niev, get ready to fight," Yukino said, concerned about Venipede's potential poison.
"Vulpi," Polar Vulpix expressed as it prepared for battle.
"Niev, use Ice Wind!" Yukino initiated the battle, and a moderate-powered icy breeze was launched directly at Venipede from Polar Vulpix's snout.
"Fushide, use Rollout!" Hachiman ordered, and Venipede quickly obeyed by curling its body into a ball and rolling towards Polar Vulpix.
"Niev, jump, and in the air, use Swift," Yukino instructed as Polar Vulpix leaped rapidly, opening its snout in mid-air to release a plethora of star-shaped figures toward Venipede.
"Dodge it while maintaining the roll!" Hachiman ordered as Venipede, still in its ball form, evaded the projectiles raining down from the sky.
"That Rollout is troublesome. Nieve, use Ice Wind on the ground to try to stop its movement," Yukino commanded. With the order, Alolan Vulpix, still in the air, covered the battlefield floor with a layer of ice.
"It's in a fixed position. Fushide, aim at three o'clock, a Pin Missile!"
While Venipede finished its roll, it observed the direction indicated by Hachiman, and its lower part began to glow white as it released a barrage of energy missiles toward Polar Vulpix. In the air and focused on freezing the field, Vulpix became an easy target for Venipede's attack, hitting it directly and sending it crashing to the ground.
"Niev!" Yukino exclaimed in concern as she looked at her Alolan Vulpix on the ground, struggling to get up after the powerful blow.
"Fushide, let's take advantage of its weakened state. Let's use your ability," Hachiman said as Venipede swiftly moved across the frozen field at high speed, astonishing both Yukino and Shizuka.
"It's a Venipede with Speed Boost. It used Rollout just to deceive me, expecting me to freeze the ground," Yukino frustratedly exclaimed as she realized she fell for Hachiman's strategy.
Observing how Venipede raced around the field at incredible speed, even escaping Yukino's sight, Hachiman seized the moment.
"Niev, Ice Shard!" Yukino shouted in desperation, and Vulpix Alola conjured the Ice-type attack as quickly as possible.
"We won't let you, Fushide, finish it with Poison Tail!" Hachiman commanded. Quickly, thanks to the Speed Boosts, Venipede dodged Niev's attack and positioned itself in front of Vulpix, charging a Poison Tail. It delivered a direct hit to Niev, sending it backward, and Yukino could see that her Pokémon was completely defeated.
"Polar Vulpix can't continue. The winner is Venipede, and the duel goes to Trainer Hachiman."
"Yes! No extra homework!" Hachiman exclaimed with joy, and even Venipede jumped in celebration. However, during its jump, it began to glow, and its body started to change.
"Venipede is evolving!" Shizuka exclaimed in amazement as she watched the small body grow in size, taking on an oval shape with a purple color and a pair of antennae.
"Wow, what Pokémon is this?" Hachiman wondered as he took out his phone and used the Pokédex app.
"Whirlipede, the Centipede Pokémon, and the evolved form of Venipede. Whirlipede spins its hard, armored body like a wheel to crash into its opponents."
"Your first victory, and you're evolving. It looks like you have the potential to become much stronger, Fushide," Hachiman expressed while stroking his Pokémon's new body.
"It seems you win, so welcome to the Service Club, Hachiman Hikigaya," Yukino said as she extended her hand to Hachiman for the good battle they had. At that moment, Hachiman remembered that he wasn't just fighting to avoid extra homework but also to join a club forced by his teacher. This marked the beginning of the unexpected adventures of Hachiman's youth, where the meaning of his life, a romantic comedy with Pokémon, was quite offbeat.
