Daydreaming

One night, I was sitting in the gutter in front of Liza's house. I was upset and I have been crying, they moved house and now I feel alone. She is my best friend. We only had a chance to say goodbye to each other because I came home early. I don't want to leave or move a single step from their house.

He was walking with his friends and I think he noticed me, however, he didn't walk to where I was and just said his goodbyes to his friends when he entered their house. I just looked at their door, still, I stayed where I was sitting.

It was getting late, around 9 PM, I stopped crying but my eyes were puffed. I'm ready to go home. I let out a big sigh. Their door opened and he was there. I'm not sure if he accidentally smiled at me or he definitely smiled at me. He walked to their gate, opened it, crossed the road and stood in front of me. "Crying?" He spoke to me and asked me if I'm crying. My heart is beating fast. 'Is he really talking to me?' I couldn't say a word. My brain can't think fast enough.

"Summer, right?" he squatted in front of me.

I stared at him, all I can see is his brown eyes, his nice nose and his lips. He was talking to me but I didn't understand what he said or maybe I didn't hear what he said. But I'm smiling at him, I felt my cheeks and my lips moved to give him a smile.

He waved his hands in my face, "Hello? Are you there?"

It woke me up from my daydream. I retracted my smile and looked down, put my hands together and I don't know what to say to him.

"Are you okay?" he sounded concerned, he really is talking to me.

"My best friend moved house today, I feel alone. I miss her already." still looking at my hands.

"Ahh… Do you want to eat some ice cream? My treat."

My heart palpitated like there is no tomorrow. I still don't know his name. Well, it's more of I'm not exactly sure what his name is. "I know this is not the right question to ask, but I still don't know your name."

He laughed, yes, he laughed in front of me. He is human after all.

"Liam. Liam Dawson" he introduced himself with a smile and he handed his hand out to shake hands with me.

I grabbed his hands and shook it. "Summer Hayes," I was thrilled to finally knew his name.

He smiled once more. "Summer Haze? Mist? Fog? Cloud? Obscurity?" he laughed.

"Are you making fun of me?" I said in a kind of angry voice. "It's H-A-Y-E-S!" I spelt it out to him.

Just like that, he turned all serious. "I'm sorry if I made you angry. I was just trying to cheer you up." he stood up and started to walk.

I stood up quickly and caught up with him. "Wait… No, I'm not angry at all. I'm just messing with you. You buying me ice cream already cheered me up. Thank you."

We walked to the nearby off-license shop and he bought me Dulce de leche Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream, strawberry cornetto and a classic cornetto. Wondering why he bought three, I gave him a questioning look. I think he understood what I meant.

"One is for you to take home, the other is for you to eat while we walk and the other one is for me." he grabbed his change from the shopkeeper.

As we got out of the store, he told me that he will walk me home. I felt happy, I couldn't ask for more. Right now, I feel like I'm in heaven.

"How long have you been living here?" he asked. Of course, I replied with much enthusiasm "Since I was born." I giggled and looked at him, I saw he smiled, he looked so handsome under the dim light of our neighbourhood street lights. Of course, he is also handsome during the daytime. It's just, right now, It's more like a magical moment.

I really wanted to ask him if he has a girlfriend already, but I don't want to scare him off or feel awkward and make him avoid me.

We didn't really talk much. He is not as talkative as I am and I don't want to force him to do something that he is not comfortable with.

He saw the black plastic bag in my hand which I wasn't really holding tight, it was just hanging on my fingers so he gently took it from my hand, "Let me hold this until we reach your house."

I couldn't help but have this sweet smile on my face. 'Such a gentleman,' I thought.

We past their house and continued to walk until we reached our house and bid goodnight to each other.
