1 Chapter One

Thud.

I froze at the sound as the ground shook, the rain pouring down, plinking off the hood of the vehicle in front of me to my right. I was under a low hanging tropical tree, the headlights to the vehicle my only source of light as the beams hit the side of the rock wall to my left.

Thud.

It resounded again, getting closer. I held my breath as the water pools rippled, staring at the wipers dragging back and forth the sporadically. I glanced back down at the vehicle's tires, cursing the mud that enveloped the tire halfway. I then quickly got in the vehicle, closing the door as quiet as I could.

A rustling in the trees ahead caught my attention, a large snout poking out of it, barely visible thanks to the jeep lights. A low, grumbling like noise was emitted as the behemoth walked forwards, each step shaking the ground.

I stayed frozen as the creature left the trees, coming into full view. Its dark green scales let it blend in rather well, especially with how dark it was. The creature, I soon realized, was in fact a Tyrannosaur. It was a juvenile judging by its height of about eight foot. Still, I would rather not get caught in those jaws.

Hoping to not be noticed, I slowly turned the vehicle off. This seemed to be the right move as the rex snorted, the vehicles lights still displaying it's body for me. It seemed to be working well as it walked towards the vehicle. The sight of the Tyrannosaur was astounding. If it wasn't for the scenario, I would of loved to take pictures and admire it.

"Alan! Alan are you okay?" The sudden noise made my heart stop as I looked down at the radio. "We've been trying to contact you but the storm is really messing with the radio." The female voice continued. I hoped the rex didn't notice, slowly looking up, not wanting to find out.

As my head made eye level with the window my heart dropped, the eye of the young rex staring back at me.

"Alan, please respond. The storm damaged the power lines near the Tyrannosaur exhibit. He may be loose." Well, I don't think this is going to be any good. I slowly reached for the walkie-talkie. As I did, the rex raised his head.

"Yeah... I think I know the likelihood of that possibility." I responded, figuring it may be a good idea to buckle up. Before I let go of the button, the Tyrannosaur let out a roar. There was no response from the other side, I figured it was due to her being guilty.

"Hey, Anna, thanky-" I was then rudely interrupted by the vehicle being tossed onto its side, causing the radio to be flung from my hands as my head hit the steering wheel, causing the jeep to honk. Not quite appreciating the sudden noise, the rex rammed the vehicle, pushing it deeper into the mud. My seat belt kept me in my seat as I felt blood trailing from my forehead.

There was then a loud combustion followed by a roar. Assumedly the reptile had bit into a tire. There was a low growl followed by the underside of the vehicle being struck, tossing it onto the roof now, my door slamming into a tree as the glass broke, the metal striking my side. Maybe the seat belt was actually a bad idea.

The sounds of teeth tearing into metal resounded, the vehicle suddenly being tilted and being pushed deeper in the ground as the metal roof and chassis bent under the weight of the beast.

"This was an expensive vehicle yanno..." I muttered, watching the ground get closer as I struggled with the seat belt. As the rex ripped more out, the vehicles alarm suddenly went off, causing the dinosaur to make a snorting sound, followed by a roar and an even more aggressive attack. This felt more like a territorial kill then a hunt.

I finally got the belt unlatched, but as I did my body crashed head first into the metal roof. My vision flashed black for a moment and I got a wave of nausea. But, persisting on I began slowly crawling to the rear as the scaled beast attacked the source of the alarm in the front. I pulled my way through the mud, my lab coat getting caked, suddenly feeling a pain and pressure on my right leg. Wincing, I looked back, clenching my jaw as the head of the rear seat had pinned my leg.

More then likely this was the result of the creature shifting its weight. But, whatever the reason, there was one thing that was certain. This sucked. I let out a pained sigh. How did I end up in this situation anyways. Maybe we should go back to the beginning.
