Fishy duo

One week later…

(POV Karma)

*Peaceful ocean noises* *Wingulls cawing*

"*Sigh* Still no bite…" I stopped my pushups and slid my sweat ridden hair back as I stared at the still fishing rod next to me.

(This is concerning I've had no pokemon take the bait since I came here today… Have they adapted to my presence and ignored my bait?) I devised possible scenarios as I reeled the line back, preparing to quit fishing and find a new area.

*Fishing line reeling*

Suddenly I felt a jolt on my rod and saw two black silhouettes around my fishing line before I quickly got up with the rod at hand.

I grinned at the challenge and felt my inner fisherman take over as a war of strength ensued between me and the two wild pokemon.

(What the hell are these two made of…) I struggled to reel the rod as I watched the first unknown pokemon help the second pokemon that caught my hook by pulling it away by the tail.

"Come on…come on…NOW!" I yanked the rod revealing the pokemon to be…

A Feebas?

*fe fee ba*

I watched in confusion as I saw the foe that put me at my wit's end to be a Feebas that flopped back and forth on the stone surface of the island.

"I'll help you to the water just give me a second…" I carefully and swiftly removed the hook from the feebas's mouth.

*Bass?*.

The Feebas looked at me with a thankful and hopefulness as it motioned to the water.

(Weird… Usually, Feebas are just dumb without any emotion or intelligence but this one can display such a complex emotion as gratitude…)

Just before I could scan the fish I felt something crash onto my back probably breaking a rib.

"Gah!" I felt the air being pushed out of my lungs as I fell to the floor and saw the culprit.

*CARP*

"B-*Cough*BASTARD!" I used telekinesis to grab the Magikarp that hit me and slammed it on the ground.

*KKKAAAAAARRRPPPP*

The Magikarp let out a bellowing war cry before launching a water gun at me and flopping over to the Feebas.

I flicked my wrist stopping the blob of water before I sent it back not as an attack but gently dropped it on their gills so they could breathe.

"I don't want to hurt you two damnit!" I tried reasoning with the Pokemon before I took out a diluted potion and used it on them while restraining them with my psychic powers.

*ba fe bas?*

*ma magi?*

The two looked at me with confusion as their slightly bruised scales healed instantly.

"See? I don't want to hurt you!" I said with an irritated look as I scanned the strangely strong and intelligent Feebas and Magikarp.

"Well this explains why you two are so strong…" I trailed off as I continued to supply them with water.

(Usually, when pokemon like Feebas and Magikarp are strong and intelligent it's because their parents were fully evolved so their moves and strength get embedded in their genes so they have a higher rate of evolving and are better in everything overall. So far I've only caught Magikarp whose parents weren't fully evolved and vice versa for the Feebas hence why they have an abysmal chance to grow stronger…) I recalled a piece of information I came across a few days ago.

(Should I catch them?) I contemplated the chances of finding any better water types.

"So I noticed you two aren't with your school, did something happen?" I tried making small talk as I activated a new ability of mine.

Poke speech which allows me to understand what pokemon say fluently.

The two looked at each other for a moment before opening up.

*fee ba bas fee bas!*

'Our schools were close to each other often spending days together hunting and traveling under the guidance of our leaders *Sob* Milotic and Gyarados until days ago-*Sobbing intensifies*' The Feebas was the first to talk before breaking down sobbing.

*KKKKKAAAAARRRRRPPPPP!*

'Until those wretched bastards the Sharpedos drenched the seas with the spilled blood of everyone we knew and loved!' The Magikarp yelled with rage and a pained look of sorrow.

"I'm guessing you two escaped and have been together since?" I said with pity recalling all the times a family mourned a patient I couldn't save and finding this situation all too similar.

The two nodded as they comforted each other with mournful glances.

"…If you want you can join my school or as I call it family, they consist of the Pokemon you see roaming that area over there." I decided to give them the offer unsure of their acceptance.

The Feebas looked at me with joy and shock before unexpectedly leaping into my arms.

*Fee! Bas! Bas!*

'Really! Yes! Yes!'

The Magikarp on the other hand stared at my team as if testing them before looking back at the Feebas and doing what I assume was a sigh.

'If the airheads going I got to go too and make sure she doesn't do anything dumb…' the red scaled carp grumbled although I felt thankfulness and trust buried beneath its words.

"Very well then… Welcome to the team!" I picked them up and hugged them which made the Feebas excited and the Magikarp embarrassed although I felt it was happy.

(Now I've got an over energetic and dramatic Rotom, a curious and hardworking Spearow, a lazy battle maniac Meowth, a gluttonous, lovable, and dumb Sandile, an airheaded Feebas, and I can't believe I'm saying this a tsundere and smart Magikarp… Safe to say we'll be at least expert level trainers once I get off this stupid island!) I felt proud of my team as I caught the two fishes and floated over to the beach with all my stuff in the inventory.

"Everyone welcome your new comrades and family Feebas and Magikarp!" I caught their attention as I released the newly caught team members in the deeper part of the shore.

*PIPIPPIPIPI*

'I'm Denji! How strong are you? How did you meet master-'

Denji was the first to arrive in his normal form zooming around the fishy duo and introducing himself before spouting endless questions confusing them.

*PPPppppppreeeee*

'Denji manners! Sorry about him he's an idiot, my name is Val.'

Val landed on a small rock next to them calmly introducing himself before smacking Denji with his wing excusing the rotom's lack of manners and personal space.

*Meow…*

'Names Lynx don't bother me while sleeping or you'll regret it…'

Lynx on the other hand distanced himself from the shoreline and lazily introduced himself.

"Where the fucks Itto…" I looked around for the sandile before he launched out of the sand and playfully clamped his jaws on my leg.

*Muffled sandile noises*

'HeRE I aM!'

"Ah, there you are! We've got new members so go introduce yourself." I said nonchalantly used to his antics as I lifted my leg and tried shaking him off.

*Dile! Sandile!*

'Okay!'

He gave a salute before he let go and plopped down to the ground like the flat fuck he is on this fine Friday.

{basically the image on this paragraph but sandile}

Itto then crawled over to the two fishes and introduced himself before surprisingly swimming in the water to play with them.

(….GROUND TYPES CAN FUCKING SWIM!?!?!) With that revelation, my jaw dropped down to my knees as I opened the Pokedex for answers.

(…Ok, this makes a lot more sense, apparently it seems that type weaknesses don't always carry over to the natural bodies of said elements. Ground and Rock types can swim if their light enough and their body type and shape allow them to. Fire types can also interact with water as long as they don't have an external flame and their body isn't made of actual fire or something related like a Slugma.) I enlightened and immersed myself in the Pokedex's vast knowledge.

*Meow?*

I felt a tug on my shirt and saw Lynx gesture to me to use poke speech.

"All right Lynx you wanted to say something?"

*Meow*

'What now? You achieved the goal of our assignment to catch a water type, but have you thought ahead? How can those two be free if they'll be in their balls all day, we don't have the water source in our humble cave to house and take care of them so once again have you thought ahead?' Lynx questioned me while not batting an eye and instead staring off at the two newbies interacting with the team.

I smiled and ruffled the black cat's head much to its dismay before answering.

"We'll move our camp its as simple as that and I've been planning for it for a while. The pokemon near the cave are too weak for us and we need stronger opponents to grow so we'd have to move anyway." I answered making lynx give me a satisfied smirk.

'Very well then if you don't mind me I'll be taking a nap now!' Lynx buried himself in the warm sand leaving only his head out before dozing off without a care.

"*Sigh* this damn cat is going be the end of me…" I muttered with a smile as I laid down and basked under the sun along with the cat.
