Chapter 1: Changes

Faye and I grew up in the same bedroom until we where ten. We where each other's best friend and told each other everything. One day she asked for her own room out of the blue, and was packed up before saying a word to me. Since then she has pulled away from me and tried hard to leave me behind. I have skipped grades and excelled academically, which made me the freak to her and her popular friends. They often bullied me and called me names, but I knew my day was coming and I could leave this all behind me.

Faye still in tenth grade while I took college courses and was graduating from high school. I wasn't jealous of her being popular or having matured faster physically. I was comfortable with my short stature and darker features. My more natural look, but something was off and I had known for quite a long time. How could we be sisters and have a birthday only a few days of each other.

How could Faye and I possibly be related, and our mother give birth twice in such a short amount of time. I had researched it, and even if we where twins we would have probably been born a day or two apart. Everytime I brought it up, both parents denied that one of us where adopted, and rushed to drop the subject. Faye didn't seem to be bothered by it, and brushed me off. They where hiding things and it all seemed to come apart near our sixteenth birthdays.

Faye's party was of course the biggest party yet. She had a D.J., a huge beach party where she had three outfit changes and the whole school came out to wish the princess a Happy Birthday. She had a huge cake, and fireworks. It was so loud even my room was not a safe haven that night. The music loudly booming, and lights flashed.

The next night we had her family party. Our entire family except Uncle Jacob had showed up the next day to bring her gifts and my Aunt Valor sat next to me at the kitchen table eyeing my parents. "You okay Paisley?" She asked as my Father disappeared to bring out her other cake and my mother deep in conversation with Leah.

I nodded knowing that this was not the place to discuss my feelings. She slipped me her keys under the table and I looked at her. "Your parents may not want to talk to you, or answer your questions but I will. Meet me at my house go right after cake and I'll be there ten minutes after you." I nodded as my father rounded the corner with a two layered cake lit with sixteen pink candles. I tucked the keys into my sweatshirt pocket. My cousin Archer and Nash eyed me from across the table and smirked as if they knew of Aunt Valor's plan to tell me everything.

After the cake I excused myself and slowly opened the front door and taking off down the sidewalk to Joe's restaurant. I didn't stop running until I reached the top of her stairs. I fumbled with the keys and opened it finding Uncle Jacob there, dressed and apparently not feeling as sick as we where led to believe. "Have a seat Paisley, we have a lot to discuss." I slid into the couch and he sat in a beige recliner across from me in the living room.

"Your parents have hidden certain things from you, but with your sixteenth birthday coming up there's things you'll need to know." I furrowed my eyebrows and action I shared with my Father. "You are a werewolf Paisley, and I don't know why your parents chose not to tell you. Our boys are well aware and have even turned a few times with guidance. I'm hoping that tonight I can guide you into a transformation, but there's a lot to learn."

I shook my head not believing a word he said. "And Faye?" He shook his head. "No Faye seems to be human, and a lousey one at that. We have seen how she treats you, and although your parents seem to be blinded no one else is." Tears started to leak from my eyes, but I brushed them away. Finally a feeling of belonging, even if what he said was hard to believe.

"Okay so I'm a werewolf... and Faye is human. So she is or isn't my sister for real?" Uncle Jacob too a deep breath and I knew he was going to lie. "Please don't lie to me, just tell me the truth." Uncle Jacob's eyes flashed and he let out a growel.

He huffed and leaned back. "No she's only your father's child, your mother agreed to raise her and then they found out she was pregnant with you. They raised you as sisters, but these last few years it seems you two have grown apart. This transformation and gifts you will posses must stay a secret." I glanced at him and the next second he was crouching in front of me. I gasped and clutched my chest. "Don't tell anyone, got it." I said as I regained control of my beating heart.

He nodded. "You can talk with anyone in our family about it, but Faye. Your parents chose not to tell her and I'll honor that request for now, but I won't let your body force you into a shift you aren't ready for." I nodded and he explained my powers I'd get for sure. The super strength, the super hearing, the sight to see further and in unlit places. I'd gain a wolf form, but he wasn't sure what color I'd be as my father was black and my mother a light blonde.

Uncle Jacob explained the mind link and our heightened reflexes. All this information I tried to absorb, but it was hard to believe, and even crazier when as he taught me I could do it. I heard the ocean, and a fisherman's boat pulling into the dock, I saw a storm on the horizon.

An hour later I had the sight and hearing down. I had a hard time with the reflexes, and mind linking, but he didn't seem upset. "Your Aunt would be a better teacher with the mind link he said as he rose and walked me to his room. "Undress and I am going to talk with you through the door. Usually we'd take you to the cliffs, but your Aunt is leading your parents on a wild goose chase to keep them away." I nodded and shut the door. "Think of your animal side, the hunting the feeling of being starving. The wildness and your yearn for adventure. Think of..." That was all I needed before my body grew hot, and I started to shake. My bones snapping. "Good." I heard him say as I tried to talk. "Make a sound if I can come in and see."

I tried to talk with him, but all that came out was a bark. He opened the door and smiled. "There she is, gosh you look like Oliver." He patted the bed and when I jumped up I saw myself in the mirror. A small black wolf looked back at me in the mirror. Thrbeolf had my eyes, a dark brown with honey swirled brown centers. I turned my head to the side and my tail wagged uncontrollably. "My turn and then we can go run." At this I jumped around the bed excited to get out. Uncle Jacob let out a laugh as got up off the bed.

I was angry at my parents for keeping this from me. I was so much more then I ever expected. My moment again over shadowed, but this time by them. I felt the need to move and began to whine as my Uncle went into the bathroom and a huge beige wolf came out. My eyes grew wide at his height. He walked out the door and through their kitchen and looked behind to see if I had followed. He glanced one more time before showing me what their dog door was really for. "How smart!" I thought and his snickering ran through my head. "Come on Paisley, your Aunt needs help convincing your parents that you are a wolf too."

I ran behind him enjoying the rush of the air as we ran down the beach and towards the cliffs. "She isn't a wolf." My mother Gemma explained as we ran I to view.

"She isn't huh? She sure looks like a mini Ollie to me." Valor turned towards us. "Then I guess we will take her in since you two have been neglecting her growth as a werewolf." Oliver shook his head and kneeled down. "Paise?" He asked as he put a hand on his knee. I patted his hand with my paw. He mind linked me and it showed up as an olive green connection. "Paise is that really you?"

I nodded and tears sprung to his eyes. "My girl has found her wolf." I nodded and he patted my head. "So she knows everything!" My mother said as she held her mouth. "How could you two do that?" Valor stepped foward blocking me from them. "You did it. You neglected her and now she has to work twice as hard to gain control before she goes to college. She could have been mastering her skills like our boys and if she had shifted alone it would have been painful and confusing for her." Gemma shook her head. "You don't know that, she might have never transformed."

Aunt Valor shook her head. "Why would you deny her the gifts you use and love?" Gemma huffed and peaked around my Aunt. "Paisley turn back and let's go home." My Mon said as she held out her hand.

My Dad ignored her as he stripped to his boxers transforming to a wolf. "Come on Paisley, I'll race you back to Joe's and then we can talk." My dad's voice rang, and I looked to Uncle Jacob who nodded at me, and I took off. I turned to see him take his clothes from Aunt Valor who placed then in his mouth. Uncle Jacob, and my Dad running behind me and fastly catching up to me.

I scanned the area and cut to the left to take a short cut. "Stay on the path." Yelled my Uncle's voice and I turned back following the longer path. When we got back I raced to Uncle Jacob's bedroom amd closed the door to change back. I figured it was the same to change. This time imagining I was human. Brown long hair and finger and toes. I felt my bones shift and Crack. My snout receded and I stood hurrying to change.
