72. A perfect match

A while ago.

Just as Liam and Lara left, the entire living room was in for a debate.

"Did something happen to boss?? Since when did he start offering help??", Sara started the discussion with the question that each one of them except Miles and Maria had in their minds.

"I know right. Arriving to a get together out of the blue and offering help??! Where did our devil boss go??", Ryan commented.

Everybody started discussing their own viewpoints with each other and the living room was filled with voices.

Suddenly, Maria asked something, garnering all of their attention.

"Hey guys, what do you think will happen if boss and Lara start dating??", Marina asked excitedly. This statement made everyone turn their heads towards her.

They were all shocked for a few moments and couldn't say anything.

"I mean, boss is handsome and Lara is a goddess… She is not scheming nor a vixen… She is from a highly respected and rich family… And most importantly, she seems to be the only one who can tolerate boss's cold behaviour..", Marina stated the facts one by one.

The others, who thought about it, couldn't help but agree. Both Liam and Lara complimented each other very well in every aspect.

Then the next hot topic of the debate became what would happen if Lara and Liam would actually become a pair from what happened to Liam.

Miles was nervous the moment the topic about Liam and Lara came up. He could only feel at ease after seeing that none of them had any issues with the two of them dating. This would make things easier for them in the future.

Lara would have the support of her officemates in case a scandal breaks up claiming that she was using love to gain the position along with the support from her family.

While thinking about her family, he couldn't help but pity Liam a bit. She had two overly protective brothers who cherished her a lot since they just met her.

If Liam were to be in a relationship with Lara, then he was mostly going to have a very tough time convincing her brothers. In that way, he was very lucky.

Maria didn't have any siblings. Especially, any over-protective brother. He smiled thinking that he wouldn't have a very difficult time convincing her father.

But sadly, he didn't know that he would be in serious trouble soon after getting together with his love.

While they were in the middle of their debate, they suddenly heard a yell from below.

"Yikes!!"

"That is Lara's voice!!", Maria exclaimed while getting up and rushing towards the basement stairs in panic. While, Miles followed her, showing the flashlight from his phone to light up her path.

While rushing, Maria forgot to notice the small table near the stairs. She tripped on one of its legs and was about to fall.

"Woah!"

But, before she could fall, she felt someone grab her hand and pull her back. Then she felt her body hit a sturdy surface.

"You should be careful…", she heard a voice.

She looked up and saw Miles look at her with worried eyes. She turned her head to look at the dark stairs that she would have fallen down through if he hadn't caught her in time.

Her face turned pale on the thought of what would have happened to her if she had ended up falling down. The thought made her shudder in fear.

Sensing that she was panicking, Miles enveloped her in a hug and patted her back soothingly.

"Hey.. It's alright… You are okay…", he whispered to her softly. Her body was stiff for a second before she hugged him back.

Getting too much into the situation, Miles unconsciously placed a kiss on Maria's head. Maria had just slowly started relaxing when this happened.

The kiss was meant to be comforting, but.... it made things worse.

And then suddenly, she remembered the position they were in and that the purpose of her running was to check on Lara and not hugging Miles.

She immediately jumped out of his embrace and thanked him. "Thank you..", she said quickly while looking away.

She was very glad that there was no electricity, otherwise, Miles would have seen how red her face was at the moment.

But, she was not the only one who was glad that there was no light.

Miles's ears were bright red. He couldn't understand as to how he got so carried away that his own body was not in his control. He had to take a few quiet deep breaths to calm his racing heart.

The atmosphere was very awkward and neither of them spoke a thing for a few seconds. Quite natural considering that it was kind of their first kiss.

'Aaah… So awkward… Couldn't you be a bit careful…. Why didn't I listen to Lara and attend the concentration increasing lessons… And did he kiss me on my head… Does my hair smell bad?? When did I last wash it?? Waah.. Wait!!'

Maria was hurling curses at herself for being so clumsy and was also busy wondering how her hair smelled at the moment. While she was amidst her sea of self-criticism, she remembered Lara.

She immediately turned towards the stairs and called out to her.

"Are you guys okay???"
