He scanned the large hall and his sight stopped on a petite figure in blue for a fleeting moment. His face broke into a 'blink and miss' smile. He continued looking indifferent thereafter.
As for Jinjing, she was upset that her plan to match him was completely ruined. She threw a disappointed look at Meili, who just shrugged her shoulders signaling unawareness.
Father Sheng moved up to the mic and spoke

Today, as you all are aware, My Son, Sheng Liang turns 21 and he is ready to succeed me to become the next president of the Sheng Corp.

On cue, Liang bowed his head a little as a sign of humbleness and gratitude and took over the mic from his father
"good evening everyone.

I humbly accept the responsibilities that are being handed over to me. My Father has played the role of the perfect mentor to me. With him and the support of everyone present here as well as, the loyal and hardworking employees of the Sheng corp. I am confident that I will succeed in all my future endeavors.

Everyone showed their support to him, with a round of applause.
With the official announcements done, Father Sheng once again took the mic.
Gathering everyone's attention, he spoke.
"I have yet another very important announcement to make and for that I would like my beloved wife and my beautiful daughter to join us on stage" gesturing towards Meili and Mrs. Sheng who were seated at the table right in front.
A completely listless Meili, made her way up supporting her mother
Once they stood next to him, Mr. Sheng continued
"today is a very joyous day for me and my entire family. It is not only Sheng Liang's birthday and succession party, but we would also like to announce his engagement."
When Liang heard this he was shocked but the presence of the media and the thousands of guest there stopped him from emoting.
Meili looked at her bestie with excitement.
On the other hand, Jinjing who was seated on a table close to the stage, was in the same state of mind as Liang. She was stunned. She thought 'did Liang speak to his parents already? He was supposed to do it after the party.' She was muddle headed as to why did he not inform her.
Anyway, looking at the stage, she found Liang looking completely relaxed though indifferent.

Jinjing looked in apprehension towards Liang, who stood there unfazed. With bated breath, she waited for Mr. Sheng to call out her name.
