"Right you is, I suppose," Silverfish said, tolerating the dress-down rather well. There was a peculiar nature to that man, despite the fact that he'd led raiding parties himself, he was more than willing to dip his head to Vol, no matter how much harshness came his way.

"You," Vol said, motioning towards Vale – who, these days, was all but attached at the hip to Penelope, seemingly intrigued by the girl. "Any suggestions of Silverfish's sort? Get them out now, before you irritate me with them later."

"No," Vale said, passively enough. She wasn't much of a talker – they'd learned that quickly, as soon as she'd blanked Vagrin when he tried to sweet-talk her. "I don't understand why we're here, so I don't have much to add."

"Me neither," Penelope put in, thinking that Vol was putting it to a vote, unable to read the frown on his face. "These people look very sad, though. I'd rather not bother them if we don't have to."
