336 The Next Steps - Part 5

There was but one group that wouldn't bring down the wrath of polite society on him. One group could be killed, and as long as it was done in the name of justice, then the society might even offer him praise for his actions. Indeed, that group were the raiders themselves.

The village where Vol was set to make his camp was named Karsam, and it sat right in the heart of a long valley. It was the most direct route to Darling, if one were travelling from the North. To bypass it, the only other option was to head straight across the Samson Mountains – which, whilst not as large as the Black Mountains, were tough enough to cross – or to take the long way around, adding potentially weeks to their travel.

One would assume that such a village, so perfectly situated, and so difficult to avoid if one had Darling as their location, should have been larger than it was, richer, purely for the trade that almost certainly passed through it.
