5 Quest: Revenge

He stepped back, but the building he was previously leaning against blocked his way of retreat.

Ten men surrounded him.

"Hey!" A bald man wearing only shorts, revealing his muscular upper body, shouted. "You are not dead yet?"

The other nine copied his style, the only difference being their smaller build. Obviously, the man who spoke was their boss.

"Why would I be dead?" Nolan asked, hiding his trembling right hand behind his back. He could feel his heart racing and his blood pressure raising. His body prepared itself to deal with the threat.

'Fu.ck!" Glancing all around, Nolan cursed in his heart. Previously, he got so immersed in reading the system messages that he didn't notice when all the people on the street disappeared. Even the salesmen had left their stalls and ran away. And who wouldn't?

In this part of the city, everyone knew who the boss of this small group was and for whom he works.

"Hmph! You will be soon!" The boss of the group said as he cracked his fingers.

'He is stronger than me?' Nolan frowned, but he did not let this discourage him, and he instantly targeted the others with his skill [inspect].

They all had similar stats to his.

[Accept/Decline]

"Accept," Nolan muttered. He could not hide his trembling hand anymore.

Slap!

He slapped himself across the face, shocking everyone.

"Hahaha!" He laughed crazily. "Exciting, exciting!" He screamed with tears in his eyes. "This is my first fight since I came to this world!"

"Everyone, be careful. The beggar has gone mad." Finn reminded his group.

"You want to face me barehanded? Come, come!" Nolan screamed. "Sword!"

The sword appeared in his hand, shocking everyone once again. He instantly drew the sword out of the leather sheath and dropped the sheath on the ground.

Seeing the sharp blade, Finn's men became a little reluctant and stepped back.

"What are you afraid of? Can he hurt us? What is the use of the sword If he does not know how to use it?" Finn screamed, instantly boosting the morale of the group.

He took the initiative and dashed forward with his fist in the air. The others immediately followed after him.

Though ten gorilla-like men ganged on him, Nolan was not afraid. Instead, he felt excited.

He dashed forward too.

It looked like he would collide with Finn head-on, but just before colliding, Nolan suddenly changed his trajectory.

Finn threw a punch, but missed and hit the air.

Nolan aimed for the weakest guy in the group, the guy on the utmost left.

Finn immediately chased after Nolan, "Dodge!" He shouted, but too late.

Swoosh!

Nolan slashed the throat of the man.

Blood splashed.

The other men froze in fear. Of course, everyone except Finn.

Puff!

Finn hit Nolan in the back.

The punch threw Nolan flying a few meters forward.

Bam!

He hit a nearby stall selling flour.

A white cloud of flour rose, disabling everyone to see what happened to Nolan.

"is-is it over?" One of the men asked in fear.

"I think so. After all, no one ever stood up after receiving a full blow from the boss." Another replied.

"Kekekek!" Laughter sounded from the flour cloud. "As expected of strength 18."

"You are alright?" Finn exclaimed in shock. How could the weak beggar he knew be so strong?

Nolan glanced around, searching for the sword he dropped when Finn hit him.

"The sword!" A man screamed as he noticed the sword on the ground.

Nolan dashed forward, towards the sword a few meters from him.

"Take the sword!" Finn screamed as he dashed towards Nolan and raised his fist.

Nolan saw that the clash with Finn was inevitable, so he raised his fist too.

They threw their fists at each other.

Pam!

The fists collided mid-air.

Crack!

"Aghhhhhhh!" Nolan screamed in pain.

His right shoulder had dislocated, and he could not move his right hand anymore. It just hung in the air next to his body.

Finn thought it was over, but Nolan had different plans.

He dashed towards the man that picked up his sword.

Finn could not react to this because he had let his guard down, thinking that Nolan would give up after he dislocated his shoulder.

The man Nolan dashed towards was not afraid. Instead, he firmly held the sword in hand.

When Nolan got close enough, the man raised the sword above his head and slashed at him.

What shocked everyone was that Nolan stretched his left hand forward.

He wanted to catch the sword with his bare hand, but the sword mercilessly threatened to cut his hand.

Watching this scene, everyone had only one thought.

He is crazy!

As the sword was just an inch from his hand, Nolan screamed: "Reward Inventory!"

The sword vanished, but Nolan's hand was still there.

He had planned this all along. He threw his hand toward the jaw of the man. He knew he would slash him with the sword, but what If the sword disappears? Then his hand would continue flying towards the jaw of the man.

All of this was possible because the sword was a system reward. When storing items in the inventory, there was a few seconds delay. But this did not apply when storing items in the Reward inventory.

Actually, storing items in the inventory did not require physical contact with the items. The items just needed to be within a two to three meters radius of Nolan. But if he stored the sword in the Reward inventory from two meters away, the man could evade, but from this close, he could not.

Pam!

Nolan hit the man in the jaw, resulting in him immediately losing consciousness.

Poff!

Just the next moment, Nolan felt a sharp pain in the back of his head. His vision blurred, and the last thing he saw before losing consciousness was a bunch of system messages.

[Ding]

[You failed the quest: The Fearless One]

[The host will…

Nolan fell to the ground.

Finn had struck Nolan in the back of the head, knocking him unconscious before he rampages more and injures more of his brothers.

"Boss, what do we do with him?" One asked.

"He could be useful. Did you see the sword appear and disappear out of nowhere? It could be sorcery. Let the boss decide what to do with him." Finn said as he fixed Nolan's dislocated shoulder.

"Ahh!" Nolan slowly opened his eyes. He felt a terrible pain in the back of his head.

He found himself in a small wooden building, full of hay. Sunlight penetrated the building through the gaps between the wood. Because of this, it was not completely dark inside. So he could see his situation.

He lay on a pile of hay. Wrapped above his ankles were black, heavy chains locked with a padlock. His wrists were chained too.

"Did they capture me?" He muttered. "Ahh. I got too greedy for the rewards and overestimated myself."

[Ding]

[The host woke up]

[The penalty for failing the mission "The Fearless One" will be executed in 10 seconds]

[Penalty: Electroshock for 1 minute]

[10…9…8…7]

"Wait, wait, wait!" Nolan screamed. He had still not come to himself, and the system announced a penalty. "You did not say anything about a penalty!"

[4…3…2…1…0]

"Agggghhhhhhhh!" His hair stood up as his body started twitching and shaking violently. He felt his insides burning.

This torture lasted for a minute, but to Nolan, it felt like an eternity.

After the penalty finished, he just lay, unable to move even an inch.

Creak!

The wooden door opened, and two muscular men entered one after another.

'Not now! Not now!" Nolan screamed inside.

"Have you gone mad? We could hear your screams miles away."

Nolan ignored them.

"Since you are awake, come with us. The boss wants to meet you." The man who spoke stretched his hand to grab the chains tying Nolan's legs so he could drag him away.

"Aghh!" The man howled in pain.

The electroshock Nolan received electrified the chains.

"What is wrong?" The other man touched the electroshocked man on the shoulder to see if he was alright.

"Aghhh!" He howled in pain, after which both of them fell unconscious.

'Serves you right!' A slight smirk spread across Nolan's face.

The effects of the electroshock started weakening.

"What happened?" Another two men entered the building.

Seeing their brothers lying on the ground, they immediately ran to them.

They were unconscious, but there was no sign of Nolan doing anything to them.

"What did you do to them?" One of them screamed as he jumped on Nolan and punched him in the face.

Blood flowed down Nolan's nose, but he did not care. "Kekekeke!" He laughed weakly. "I cast a spell on them. If you do not want them to die, unlock the locks of the chains and set me free so I can remove the spell from them." An evil smile appeared on Nolan's face.

"You bastard." The man threw another fist at Nolan's face.

"Hit me one more time, and they will die," Nolan uttered hurriedly.

The fist stopped an inch from his nose.

"Enough!" The man checking the bodies shouted. "I think he is right. I carefully checked their bodies, but there was no sign of anything hitting them. Also, I can feel the curse on them is very powerful. Even I, who was not hit by his curse can feel stings on my skin whenever I touch them. I'm afraid, If you hit him again, our brother will die."

"Then what should we do?" The man withdrew his fist.

"I would go call the boss. And you free him so he could remove the curse from our brothers." The man who checked the bodies stood up and left the wooden building.

"Tsk!" The man took the keys out of the pocket of his shorts.

"Aghh!" He let out a low scream as he touched the chains. However, the electricity weakened, so it could not hurt him much or knock him unconscious.

He was just thrown back and fell on his butt. "What did you do, you bastard!"

"Kekeke!" Nolan laughed, showing his teeth dyed red because of the blood from his nose that entered his mouth." That was for the punch."

"You bastard!" The man stood up, ready to punch Nolan again.

"Enough." A sweet and pleasant voice came from outside.

The man stopped instantly and turned towards the door.

Nolan also raised his head to see the person from which the pleasant voice came.
