24 Introduce your future wife

"If you really missed my cooking then move back home?" Suzy asked her daughter.

Suzy is against her idea of moving out of the house and live on her own. She was always rejected every time she urges her daughter to come back home.

"Mom, you know the answer to that question right?" she said while enjoying her food.

"I know you want to be independent and all but you are our only daughter and it best for you to stay here especially that your brother is not home." Suzy tried persuading her.

"I will be very busy next week. I should work overtime so it's best to stay in the condo. it's near my office. Don't worry mom I'll visit you often. I promise." She raised her right hand while smiling.

"Alright. I know that I can't persuade you. Just always take care of yourself and remember to call us if you are in trouble. Do you understand?" Suzy rest her case and watched her lovely daughter eats her breakfast. She really missed Sammie and wants to spend more time with her.

After breakfast Sammie went back to her room and turned her computer on. She checked her work email and opened the latest one. It was from HR department regarding her application for the Planning Manager post.

"I'm busy these past two days that I forget to check this important email. Let's see what it's about." she said as she clicks the link. She read the email and was surprised. "Oh my! I made it to the final interview. Wait its tom afternoon. I should start preparing now." She excitedly said.

In the city hospital

Martin arrived in the hospital early morning as per his sister's request. Grandpa Ben was still sleeping when he entered the room.

"Brother you are here." Rebecca greeted him.

"Yes. I brought you breakfast. Eat first before you head back home." he handed her the paper bag containing the takeout food.

Rebecca assumed the bag and position it in the table near the sofa. "Thank you. can I also borrow your car? It's our drivers off today." she asked while opening the bag.

Martin sat on the sofa. "Alright. No problem. How's Grandpa?" he replied.

"Grandpa is doing good. He was happy yesterday afternoon since Grandpa Albert pays him a visit. He was full of energy while chatting with him as if he didn't have a heart attack. He will be discharged tom as per doctor's advice." she answered while munching her sandwich.

"That's good news. I saw Grandpa Albert yesterday. He told me that Ava will be back next month." he casually told her.

"Oh really. Good luck my dear brother your peaceful days are over." Rebecca starts laughing.

"You don't seem excited to see your childhood best friend?" he teasingly asked her.

Although Rebecca and Ava were childhood friend they are not always in good terms since the later has a spoiled princess attitude. Their attitude and personality contradicts each other though they are friends. Rebecca also hates the fact that Ava is going gaga over her brother. She doesn't want Ava to be her future sister in law.

"Correction. Friend but not best friend. Anyway I'll proceed now. Bye!" She then stands up and pick her purse from the table.

"Wait! You haven't told me where are you going?" Martin asked while turning his laptop on.

Rebecca stops in front of the door and turn around. "I'm going on a date!" then she winks at his brother.

Stunned with what he heard, Martin suddenly stands up. "What?! Date?!" he exclaimed.

"Hush brother. Your voice, Grandpa is still sleeping. I'm just kidding okay?" she titters. "I'm meeting a new friend." she said the left the room.

Few minutes after Rebecca left Grandpa Ben woke up. He slowly opens his eyes and scan the room to look for her granddaughter but instead he saw Martin.

Martin saw him opens his eyes so he went to his side.

"Grandpa, you're awake. Do you need anything?" he asked

"cough. cough. Martin, where is your sister?" the old man asked while searching for Rebecca on the room.

Martin reclined his grandfather's bed in a sitting position. He gave him water to drink before he answered. "She went back home first before she meets with her new friend."

the old man furrowed his brows trying to think of this new friend Rebecca is talking about. "I don't remember her meeting a new friend. Is she secretly dating someone?" he happily asked.

Grandpa Ben wanted them to settle down soon since he knows that he will no longer live long enough to be there for them. He also wishes to see his great grandchildren before he dies.

"I don't think so." Martin respond indifferently.

Grandpa Ben looked at Martin seriously. "What about you Martin when are you going to introduce your future wife. You are not young anymore and needs to settle down soon. At least while I'm still alive." he paused. "Remember what you promised me that you will get marry this year. Ahem, what do you think about Albert's granddaughter Ava? The two of you grew up together and I would be happy if you will end up marrying her." he said

"Grandpa, I only take her as my younger sister." he responded politely.

"Well, I'm not interfering with your love life just ensure you fulfill your promise to me. You know what is at stake. Cough. Cough." it sounded more like a threat than a reminder.

"I know. I know. Don't think too much. You're still recovering. I'll introduce her to you soon." he answered. He is not close to dating anyone how can he introduce someone to him. He just wants him to have a peace of mind while recovering. He can't afford to lose him if anything happens to his grandfather.

"Hey Martin you better not lie to me. Let me remind you that this time the one you will introduce should be your future wife I don't want you to do the same tricks again. Otherwise I will be the one to arrange your marriage. Understood?!" said the old man with conviction.

He doesn't want Martin to repeat his mistakes of introducing a fake girlfriend just to appease his grandfather.

"I understand. you don't have to worry about it." he assured the old man.

They were in that conversation when the doctors and nurses entered the room to check the patient.
