Chapter 3

She sat silently on the sofa while the people around her partied like wild animals.

'How dare she let wild animals in?' she muttered under her breath.

Jiangzhe, her 2nd most trusted assistant other than Lucius came back from New York. She sent him to New York for an important errand and he has been gone to settle things there for 7 months. He stood behind her, protecting her from every wild animal that dares approach her.

Moments later, the music stopped. It surprised the party goers but then ultimately, they fell silent as Lucius, a handsome young man, dragged her uncle's mistress.

The poor woman staggered and struggled as Lucius dragged her to his master who was sitting patiently on the sofa. All eyes were on her the whole time.

"You bitch! I thought you despise this house so much?!" the woman laughed as she looked down on her. "Your uncle's going to marry me and in the future, you're going to call me aunt."

Jia stayed calm after she was taunted. The last time someone looked down on her, their company was destroyed forcing them to sell every stock they have.

She gently mixed her champagne and took a sip from it, slowly enjoying its delicate flavor.

"YOU ASSHOLE! LET ME GO!"

'Ahh, such a nice drink from a long hard day,' she thought.

She stood up to meet her eye.

"Jiangzhe, Lucius... I don't like how she looks at me," she said.

"Right away, milady," the two men said as they grab hold of the woman's shoulder and pushed her down, making her kneel in front of Jia.

This time, it the woman who was looking up at her.

Jia smirked at her before pouring her champagne on her head and showered her with cash.

"This... is how you look at me, you filth," she glared.

Murmurs were heard from the guests.

"Tell the guards to make them leave. I'm going to check on my grandfather. Jiangzhe, throw that filth away. Lucius, prepare my bath," she said as she turned away to leave.

As she was to take a step on the stairs, her uncle came rushing to the woman's aid.

"Fen! Jia! How could you treat your aunt like this!?" her uncle yelled at her.

"Uncle, you should be thankful papa wasn't here to witness this. If he did, he wouldn't have been too merciful," she said as she glared at him. "You should be thankful your brother hasn't kicked you out of the house yet, you asshole."

Tan Wu was about to approach her niece but Lucius and Jiangzhe blocked him. If looks could kill, he would've been turned to ashes.

"The moment you lay a hand on me will be the day these two will be stripping your meat from your bones," she said, her voice ice cold as she continued climbing the stairs. "Good night, Uncle."

...

The next morning, her uncle, together with that Fen woman, was already gone. She didn't bother asking as the only thing important to her was her grandfather's safety.

"How's your cold, grandfather? Here drink some tea to warm you up," she said as she poured tea for him.

The old man looked at her granddaughter warmly. He really does wishes to see her get married before he dies.

"How is the company, Jia?" he asked as he sipped his tea.

"Much better than last year, grandfather. Please, don't worry about the company. You should worry about yourself," she said as she sat on her seat.

Old Tan chuckled. He had missed this granddaughter of his. After taking over the company, she hasn't had time to take care of him or pour him tea.

"Alright, I will worry about myself," he sighed, letting his beloved granddaughter laugh. "But aren't you going to talk to me about something else?"

She does. She wanted to ask why did he say yes to such an unimportant event like a marriage? But until she knows her grandfather's reasons, she won't ask. Even though she'd ask, she won't get a straight answer.

"Nope. I should get going now. I still have someone to meet at the office," she said as she drank her coffee. "Bye, grandfather."

The old man watched as her granddaughter leave together with her 2 men.

"Shin?" he called out to his butler.

"Yes, master?"

"Ask for that man to come later. Jia won't be coming here tonight," the old man instructed.

"Yes, master."

...

"Milady, pink tulips have arrived for you," Jiangzhe said as he bought a basketful of pink tulips.

"Who's it from?" she asked without an event taking a glance. She was too busy signing documents.

"From the Xiang Corporation," he replied.

"Throw it away. Next time, throw away anything that would come from that company," she said, her voice cold as ice.

"Yes, milady," he said as he left with the basket.

"Lucius?" she called.

Lucius entered the room.

"Schedule," she said as she leaned back on her chair and massaged her forehead. She wasn't able to finish the documents last night as she was too tired to even sit up after everything that happened.

"A lunch with Ms. Xinyi at 11 am; an afternoon coffee with Mr. Xian from the Xie Entertainment groups," he said.

"Anything else?" she asked.

"A dinner with the CEO of a gaming company," he said.

She looked at her watch and realized it was still too early for her lunch with Xinyi, her best friend since college who just became an actress recently.

"I'd like to take a walk around my company," she said as she stood up.

She doesn't usually walk around her company and inspect it, and her decision sparked panic to the employees. She was strict with the clothes especially for women who only wear flipflops on work, for her, it wasn't professional.

As she walked around, her employees were looking nervous. She wasn't there to actually inspect and scold them, it's because she was bored and had nothing to do for now.

"Lucius, prepare the car. Let's go fetch Xinyi," she said.
