4 Entrance Exam

"Well this is it. Time to put our ten months of training to the test." Midoriya said standing up next to Arthur.

"Hell yeah, let's show 'em who we are!" Arthur said, his voice dripping confidence.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-No One's POV-
A training ground they said. The "training ground" as they call it is just an entire city that no one lives in. The group of examinees stood in awe simply of the gate into the training ground. As Midoriya was trying to put on a brave face Arthur was looking around at the competition. The only people of note were a boy with six arms with webbing in between each an inch or two shorter then Arthur, a boy with some kind of blouse sweatshirt combination and a large belt with a lense of the buckle, the strict boy that scolded Midoriya during the orientation, and the bubbly girl from before the exam. Arthur noticed Midoriya staring at the girl and elbowed his shoulder to shake him from his thoughts as he stated his stretches.
"I should probably go say thank you before we start." Midoriya said, walking forward.
Arthur saw the uptight boy from earlier going to intercept Midoriya, but continued his warm-up waiting to see how it played out before jumping in. As he walked up and put his hand on Midoriya's shoulder it caused the boy to jump.
"It looks like she is trying to focus on the test ahead. What are you going to do? Distract her and ruin her chances to succeed?" The boy asked, stopping Midoriya.
As Midoriya started panicking about the accusation the other examinees began talking about the greenette. This caught Arthur's ear so he listened closer as they were writing Midoriya off simply from the incident out front and in the lecture hall. Arthur stood up straight and walked over to Midoriya's aid.
"I'm sorry about the commotion my friend here has caused. You can all go back to your preparations." Arthur said with a smile on his face and a menacing aura about him causing some to shy away from the scene. The blue haired boy looked Arthur up and down, unable to get a read on the larger boy now in between him and Midoriya before walking away.
"Arthur..." Midoriya said from behind his friend, causing him to turn around and meet his gaze. "You always stand up for me and I can't thank you enough for it, but I need you to promise me when we're in there you won't help me if you see me struggling." He said with a steely look in his eyes. "Sink or swim, I need to do this by myself. I can't always rely on you to bail me out if I'm in trouble. Okay?" Midoriya asked with his hand out staring Arthur down. Arthur couldn't help but smile and grip his friends hand to make the deal.
"I like this new you, Izuku. You got a deal." Arthur happily relied with a firm handshake.
"Right, let's start! Get moving!" Present Mic shouted from on top of his announcer's tower as the doors opened.
Without a second thought Arthur raced through the crowd before most knew what was going on, but a handful started running as well. The only one of note with him at the front was the blue haired boy. As Arthur quickly studied him he saw tail pipes coming from his calves indicating some form of speed quirk.
Ten months ago Arthur would be at the tail end of the pack, where he hoped Midoriya was not, but because of All Might's training he realized if he couldn't block everything he needed to be fast enough to dodge. All Might did this with the somehow effective training of hurling rocks at Arthur, while screaming dodge repeatedly until he could easily do so or shatter the ones he couldn't. Arthur was now much lighter on his feet then most people who are his size of 6 ft 4 in., but could still plant his feet quickly and take his stance.
"There are no countdowns in real battles. Run run run, listeners you're wasting air time here." Present Mic yelled.
As Arthur broke off from the pack to look for some faux villains to fight, he thought of what All Might said to Midoriya about using his new quirk.
"You better know what you're doing Izuku." Arthur thought as one of the faux villains broke down a wall ahead of him.
The robot was a meter or so bigger than him and moved around on a single wheel, an obvious weakness meant to be exploited. It had two belt-fed chain guns as hands with armor over the outward facing side with the number one painted on them meant to be it's primary form of attacks, as a fairly balanced range and distance fighter he could easily take them out before they became a problem Arthur thought.
"Target acquired." The robot chirped out as it charged at the teen
"Alright, give a show." Arthur said his montra to himself as he took his stance. Arthur's fighting style was a mixture of kick boxing and moves he picked up from observing those around him that he could easily incorporate into his technique.
He shuffled his feet to be shoulder length apart to lower his center of gravity, bent his knees to prevent them from locking up, and held his fists wrapped in tape a few inches from his chin to make it easy to both block and swing. Arthur waited for the bot to get closer because a wasted swing is an opening for the enemy.
"Wait." Arthur said in his head watching the robot storm towards him. "Wait." He repeated in his head as the robot got closer and began to raise its arm to take a swing at the boy "NOW!" He yelled as he slammed his front foot forward and delivered an uppercut to the air and a large spike made of the asphalt shot out of the ground and pierced the machine through the side of its chest under the arm that was reeled back effectively dispatching the bot. "One down, a shit ton to go." He said as he ran, dispatching robots as he went along and saving examinees that bit off more than they could chew.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After exiting an alley now full of destroyed one and two pointers, on to the main street Arthur saw the boy from earlier with the belt and sparkly hair backed into a corner by three of the two point bots and was looking a little worse for wear.

The bots walked on four claw-like legs with long necks and tails making it seem skorpion like in certain aspects. Arthur tapped his foot to the ground causing two fist sized stones to shoot up and float in front of him. He quickly took a stance, danced on his feet as he brought his fists up, and punched rocks in rapid succession hitting two of the robots drawing their attention.

"Hey ya bucket of bolts, over here!" Arthur yelled from a few yards away, distracting all three as he formed stone on his arms up to his elbows.

As the two charged at the new challenger Arthur took a defensive stance and side stepped one of the robots' stingers as it lunged at him. He wasn't fast enough to dodge the second tail, but blocked it with his reinforced arms. Noticing the stone on his left arm chipped slightly Arthur quickly mended it. Direct hits weren't an option he then realized. Both robots again tried to strike him with their tail and when one of the stingers got stuck in the ground in an attempt to hit the fleet footed boy he took the opportunity and formed the rocks around his right arm past his wrist into a large stone blade covering his hand. In one swift motion he waived through the legs cutting them as he went and finished by lobbing off it's head.

Arthur saw from the corner of his eye the boy took advantage of the distraction and used his quirk on the single bot still in front of him. He put his hands behind his head as a laser shot out of the lens on the belt, confirming Arthur's thought that it was for the boy's quirk. The laser burned straight through the two-pointer leaving it a smoldering pile of scrap. The last bot looked back at the laser boy before a large stone spike shot straight up through its abdomen destroying its power source.

"Merci for the assist, mon amie." the flamboyant boy said while pointing at Arthur.

"Don't worry about it." Arthur said waving it off and walking to the grateful party before a three-pointer rounded the corner locking on to the two.

As it fired a barrage of missiles Arthur jumped forward raising both arms as if he was blocking a punch making a large wall of stone form in front of the pair. As the boys took cover behind the boulder. Pinned down from the barrage Arthur looked around quickly trying to find something to help. He looked at the melted robots and back to the boy next to him as came up with an idea. Arthur quickly explained it to the boy, earning a thumbs up and a nod.

"Alright on my mark." Arthur said as he peeked from behind the rock waiting for the assault to end. When the salvo ran out and it appeared to be reloading they set the plan into motion. "NOW!" He shouted as he slammed both hands on the ground as he gritted his teeth and focused.

Multiple large purple crystals rose from the ground around the robot in a circle. Sparkle boy shot his laser into the crystal in front of him causing it to refract through it and to the other crystals making them focus on the large faux villain piercing the thick armor melting the insides.

As the boys celebrated the victory of the makeshift plan the streets began to shake violently and buildings collapsed. After a few seconds of wondering what was going on other students started running past him and he looked at what was happening. What Arthur saw stunned him as a giant robot grabbed the corner of an office building and glared down the street towering over the battlefield. With a horrified look he immediately remembered what Present Mic had said.

"That's the zero-pointer?! What the fuck?!" Arthur thought as he got up from the ground and stared with his jaw dropped.

The titan punched the ground in front of it making a harsh storm of dust and debris fly down the street forcing Arthur to cover his eyes as small shards of concrete tore past him grazing him and tearing his workout clothes leaving small cuts all over his body. As he looked up he saw the "obstacle" slowly moving down the street making the examinees that watched it and start running.

"Less than two minutes remaining!" Present Mic shouted over the commotion.

"I need to get the hell away from this thing." Arthur thought as he went to run. But life had other ideas.

"Oowww!" a voice cut through the noise.

As he heard the cry of pain Arthur whirled around to find the source. He looked down the road to see the girl from earlier trapped under some debris sent flying by the robot. Before he could think, the world around him slowed down to a stop as he broke out into a dead sprint towards danger in the vein to help her. As he ran, the dust next to him cleared revealing Midoriya running to help as well.

Before Arthur could get a word out Midoriya crouched down and jumped with such force it blew away all the dust in the area. With no time to think about it Arthur continued towards the colossus. As he got to the girl the robot was almost on top of her. With nothing else he could think of he reached down and ripped off his shoes hopping on the opposite foot until both were off and stomped his feet in the ground, breaking through the asphalt and put his hands on the ground.

"*deep inhale* AAAAAHHHHH!" Arthur took a deep breath and let out a scream as he pushed as much power as he could muster from what he had left as jagged rocks shot out of the ground beneath the robot, piercing through the metal treads shedding them to pieces halting it's movement completely.

As he did this Midoriya was flying through the air towards the head of the adversary as the veins in both legs and his right arm glowed with power as he reared his arm back to deliver a devastating blow. As the punch connected time seemed to slow down for everyone watching. The head of the metallic titan shattered as its face caved inward. The robot began to explode as it flew backwards from the incredible forces attacking it from both the top and the bottom. Onlookers were in awe of the displays of raw power given by the two boys in front of them. As the metal corpse hit the ground time seemed to return.

"Just one minute left!" Present Mic announced as Midoriya started falling from the sky.

"He doesn't look like he knows how to land!" Arthur said out loud, realizing as he looked up to his friend helpless in the air. He tried to get up and run to catch Midoriya before he violently hugged the pavement, but couldn't get up because of his foot still being stuck in the ground and a shooting pain through it. "Dammit!" Arthur shouted, finding himself unable to move or find the power to use his quirk to do anything.

"Useless, useless, useless!" Arthur berated himself as he kept trying to get his foot unstuck. He looked up, closed his eyes, not wanting to see what happened.

As Arthur held his eyes closed expecting to hear Midoriya's screaming abruptly stop. He instead heard a slap ring out. He opened his eyes to see the girl that was under the rubble had gotten herself free floating a piece of scrap as both her and Midoriya were floating weightlessly in the air.

"Release!" She said as she put her fingertips together. Her and Midoriya were slowly placed on the ground.

As they were placed down Arthur finally managed to get his leg free and tried to run over only to hiss in pain as he put pressure on his foot. Determined to get to Midoriya Arthur hubbled over as fast as he could and fell to his knees close to his friend. He looked up to see the girl puking up a rainbow, but he was relieved to see she was relatively okay. He turned to Midoriya who was dragging himself away with his left arm. What Arthur saw made him want to lose his breakfast too. Midoriya's legs were twisted in the wrong directions and his arm was a deep purple as it dragged on the pavement as he mumbled to himself.

"I still have a chance to get one point before--"

"And that's it. TIME'S UP!" Present Mic announced interrupting Midoriya.

"What did he say? At least one point? There's no way." Arthur thought as he stared at Midoriya with concern as he passed out from the pain. A crowd began to form around Midoriya and they started murmuring about nonsense insulting the boy. "Would you useless pricks either help him or fuck off!" He yelled at the crowd as he tried to stand and fell in pain.

"Now now, please calm down young man and try not to exert yourself." an old woman she said as she walked over with her cane that looked like a syringe and handed out gummies.

"Who's the old lady?" A random examinee asked.

"That mademoiselle is the heart of UA, Recovery Girl. She's the reason UA can hold these kinds of exams." the flamboyant boy said.

"My goodness you were hurt this bad by your own quirk sonny?" Recovery Girl asked the unconscious greenette. Suddenly she puckered her lips and kissed Midoriya's head, shocking all the examinees. Arthur watched as Midoriya's body glowed a faint green and his limbs began to right themselves.

"Is he going to be okay ma'am?" Arthur asked as she walked up to him.

"He'll be fine, he just needs some minor first aid and rest." She said as she kissed Arthur's cheek. He immediately felt the pain in his ankle vanish as he stood up slowly.

"Thank you so much." He said with a smile and a bow.

"It's no problem dear, here have some gummies." Recovery Girl said handing him a fistfull of sweets from her pocket.

"Oh, uh thank you?" Arthur said as a sweatdrop formed on his head.

Soon all the examinees were ushered out of the school and Arthur waited in the infirmary for Midoriya to wake up. When he did he was too tired to walk on his own so he leaned on Arthur as they walked home. Inko insisted on Arthur saying over after hearing about how he hurt himself. He tried to insist he was fine, but she was not hearing any of it.

A few days later the three sat at the table enjoying the meal Inko made as she and Arthur talked as they ate, but both were starting to worry for Izuku as he had been staring at the fish he had in his chopsticks for a while.

"Izuku, snap out of it. Izuku?" Inko said worried about her son's strange actions. Arthur put down the fork he was using when he saw Izuku's blank stare that matched the fish.

"Hey, you okay bud?" Arthur asked, putting a hand on Midoriya's shoulder to snap him out of his daze.

"Why are you smiling at that fish, Should I be worried about you honey?" Inko asked her son.

"No, sorry. I just spaced out for a minute." Izuku blurted out as he started stuffing his face. Arthur knew what was eating at him and decided to talk to him about it later when his mom wasn't there.

After the meal Arthur insisted on doing the dishes as he felt it only right as he commonly ate there for free. Izuku sat on the couch staring off into space as he squeezed his hand grip. Suddenly a blue notebook that read "Neighborhood Circular" floated by Arthur's head making him follow it with his eyes to Inko.

"I know, waiting for the results is terrible." Inko said, trying to cheer up a very depressed looking Izuku.

"I guess." Was all he replied.

"No matter the results just know I'm proud of both of you." Inko said with a smile on her face.

As Inko left to go get the mail, Arthur finished the dishes and walked over to the couch and sat down on the opposite end as Izuku. The two sat in an uncomfortable silence while Izuku started using the old dumbbell at his feet that Arthur had outgrown and given to him.

"Izuku..." Arthur said, trying to break the silence. "Do you want to talk about it?" He asked. Izuku looked down before he started talking.

"Somehow All Might saw potential in me, but I failed." He said flatly as he curled his dumbbell. "I let all of us down so much." He continued. Arthur just sat there listening knowing he had to let this out. "I'm sorry, but I'll keep trying." Izuku finished. Arthur went to say something but was stopped when the door burst open with Inko scuttling in with two envelopes in her hand.

"Izuku, Arthur, look they came, you both got letters!" Inko said as she scrambled in. "They're here, the test results!" she said as she held up two letters that bore the UA seal.

Both boys jumped up to grab the letters. Arthur thanked Inko for grabbing his mail for him and left to go open it in his single apartment. It wasn't much, but Arthur liked it.

It had three rooms as you walked in and left the entrance hall. There in the main living space was a simple and fully equipped kitchen Arthur would use at least twice a week so as not to burden Inko. Then on the other side of the room was a decent flat screen TV with a couch and an end table across from it. The bedroom was rather simplistic, the walls were covered in botany diagrams and hero posters scattered between, some would say it was similar to Midoriya and his All Might memorabilia collection. One the balcony was a medium sized garden plot full of flowers and other plants. Arthur wanted something small as not to drain the money he inherited from his parents.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-Arthur's POV-
I sat down on my couch and opened the letter only to find a small circular disk. As I placed it on the coffee table in front of me it projected what appeared to be a hologram of All Might.
"Finally the last one, thank goodness." All Might as he wiped a bead of sweat rolling down his head as he turned his head to talk to someone off screen. "What, we're live?" he asked as he stood up straight and cleared his throat. "Young Carnell it is I, All Might, but I bet you knew that already." All Might said with a laugh.
"So he's teaching at UA now. That must be why he was here in the first place." I reasoned as I listened.
"You have no idea how many of these I've had to do today so I'll just cut to the chase." All Might said as Arthur had a sweatdrop on his head.
"How is this guy the number one hero?" I mumbled to myself as the recording continued.
"For the written portion you scored impressively in the 80th percentile, but as you know it's not all about academics here." All Might said with his hands on his hips before he continued. "You scored a solid 32 point villain point during the practical, this alone would not be enough to earn you a spot in the hero course." He said as my heart sank.
"Oh god. What am I going to do if I didn't get in? I have to become a hero..." I panicked.
"However" All Might said leaning closer than necessary to the camera, causing me to return my attention. "There were hidden factors in the exam." He said as video of me and the flamboyant boy fought off the group of robots together. "You knew there was a time limit but you put your score on the line either way to help those in need." He explained. "You were adaptable and quick on your feet." All Might said as it showed footage of the combination attack with the crystals. "You kept calm and made an astonishing plan when faced with a grave situation." He said as in it switched one last time to the zero-pointer. "And finally you did not even hesitate to help an injured person in insurmountable danger." He finished off as the camera switched back to him. "Because of your courageous actions the group of teachers proctoring the exam awarded you 41 rescue points, placing you in a tie for third with Young Uraraka!" All Might inform me as the scoreboard popped up to show the top ten. I was surprised to say the least when I saw Midoriya in 7th place with 60 rescue points. I looked up the board to see Bakugo in first with 77 villain points and 0 recuse points.
"Why am I not surprised? I just don't see him actually saving someone in danger." I grumbled.
"Welcome Arthur, you made it, you are now part of the hero academia!" All Might said, staring straight at the camera with his signature smile. "Your father would be very proud of you." He said as the message ended causing me to freeze.
"Did...Did he know my dad?" I was shocked at the idea. After a few minutes I shook the question away and pulled out my phone to text my aunt the good news. As I hit send I got a text from Izuku confirming he got accepted too. Soon I began getting ready for bed after watering the plants that needed it and layed down in bed staring at the ceiling. "Let's give 'em a show." I said as I fell asleep.
