Chapter 16

"Hmm, the most mysterious place on the island huh?" Muttered a monkey while looking at the four teens in front of him, "Fumu, if it's the most mysterious then it could only be 'that' place."

This monkey was the one with the telepathy Quirk that communicated with Izuku and Bakugo when they 'conquered' this island.

"Can you tell us where it is?" Asked Bakugo as he crossed his arms.

"Anything for you lord Bakugo," said the monkey, "Under the lake where the Komodo Dragon previously lived, is a mysterious cave that gives off this sort of feeling....I don't know why but I was attracted to it, and before I know it...I can already...think...and have this ability to communicate with others through my thoughts."

'He developed a Quirk after staying at that place?' Izuku rubbed his chin in thought, 'Just what the heck is in that place?'

"Have you been to that cave before?" Asked Momo.

The monkey nodded, "I have, there is also this strange metal-thing inside there, and some glowing crystals and flowers having petals with different colors. I immediately left though, there is something there that is very dangerous."

The four teens looked at each and nodded.

"Thank you," said Izuku, "Can you watch our ship for us? We're heading there right now."

"No problem lord Midoriya," said the monkey. "Would you like me to send some escorts for you?"

"No need, but thanks." Izuku smiled before turning towards his friends and ran towards the center of the island, with Melissa, Momo and Bakugo following after him.

On the way there, the girls were in awe at several animals and insects they saw that displayed Quirks.

They saw a meter tall bird with flaming wings, a spider that can generate electricity from its webs, a bison with iron armor and many more!

Even Izuku and Katsuki were a bit shocked. The first time they came here, there are almost a little to no signs of life, now there are particularly everywhere! Most of them have Quirks too!

Izuku wondered if the Komodo Dragon terrified them so much they were forced to hide, but now that the Komodo is killed, they finally showed themselves.

After a few more minutes of walking, the four teens finally arrived on the lake where Izuku and Katsuki fought the Komodo Dragon.

"We're here." Said Izuku as he closed his eyes and tried to feel the sensation described by the Monkey Elder, "....Hmm, hmm, hmm, I can't feel anything."

Katsuki also did the same and shook his head, "Me too. Maybe only animals can feel them?"

"I don't think so," Momo frowned before turning towards Melissa, "How about you Mel? Maybe we can't feel it because we already have a Quirk?"

Katsuki and Izuku turned towards her.

Melissa nodded and closed her eyes as she tried to 'feel' what the elder monkey felt. It was definitely hard, but as time passed, she began to feel...something.

She felt like she was standing on clouds, with a cool breeze brushing her face and a warm sunlight caressing her.

She felt...at peace.

When she opened her eyes, she immediately heard her friends gasp, but that's not what caught her attention.

It was the fact that she now has three hundred degree vision, and can see anything within a three hundred meters radius. She can also zoom in or out her vision and has an x-ray vision.

She found out about it when she 'accidentally' looked at Izuku. She immediately blushed in shame, before frowning she felt a slight pain on her head.

Almost on instinct, her 'sight' returned to normal.

"W-What was that!?" She gasped.

Momo quickly went to her side and held her close, "Calm down. Can you tell us what happened? Your eyes suddenly changed."

"My eyes...?" Melissa covered her right eye with her right hand, "...I, uh, at that time, I have 360° vision and can see anything around 300 meters radius. I can also zoom in and out my sight and has x-ray vision."

The three teens stared at each other in shock. Their friend just develop a Quirk like that!

"Can you control it?" asked Bakugo, "When I first awakened my Quirk, I couldn't control it and burned my arms off."

Izuku also couldn't fully control One for All since his body still just isn't ready for that.

And Momo almost died because she couldn't stop her Quirk from endlessly creating a matryoshka doll.

"I....think so?" Melissa narrowed her eyes before thinking about what she felt earlier, and much to her friends surprise, her sclera turned black and her pupils turned neon blue.

"...How? Just how?" Momo stared at Melissa in confusion, "I had trouble controlling my Quirk when I first manifested it!"

"Maybe because she isn't a kid?" Offered Bakugo.

Izuku shook his head, "I don't think so. There are also late bloomers who awakened their Quirks when they are in their teens, and they also couldn't control their Quirk. In fact, it becomes even harder to control because their bodies has already developed and started to mature, developing a Quirk at that age is like pouring more water on a glass already full of it. Their bodies won't be able to handle it."

"Then how could she?" Asked Bakugo while pointing at Melissa.

Said girl deactivated her Quirk and her eyes returned to normal as she glanced at Izuku, waiting for explanation.

Even Momo listened. She may be smart, but she's far cry compared to Izuku when it comes to Quirk.

Izuku rubbed his chin and looked up at the sky. He stayed at that position for a minute before turning towards his friends and held out two fingers.

"I can only think about two possibilities," he took a deep breath as the others leaned a bit closer, "First is that, hers, and probably the animals on the island doesn't have a Quirk, but a different abilities entirely."

"That's..." Momo trailed off, and couldn't find anything to refute Izuku's words, "...Actually quite possible."

"A different ability huh," Melissa stared at her hands.

"...How about the second?" Bakugo turned towards Izuku.

Instead of answering, the ninth decided to ask a question, "Have you guys heard about the Quirk Singularity Theory?"

Melissa and Momo nodded while Bakugo shook his head.

Izuku turned towards Bakugo, "In short, that theory states that as the generations follow one another, Quirks blend and evolve, producing stronger and more complex Quirks. However, with this increase in power, the Quirks will also become more difficult to control, since the human body doesn't evolve quickly enough to keep up. Eventually, there will come a point when Quirks will become too overpowered and complicated, and no one will be able to control them anymore."

"It was a theory presented by Dr Kyudai Garakai seventy years ago," said Momo, "Obviously, no one believed him, but with the passage of time, the Quirk Singularity Theory began to gain notoriety. The early signs of Garaki's hypotheses started to appear among the fourth generation of Quirk users, although, even nowadays, the theory is considered fringe thinking reserved for cults."

Bakugo narrowed his eyes, but folded his arms and stared at Izuku, "What's that has got to do with this?"

"A lot actually," Izuku walked towards Melissa and grabbed her hands and caress it, causing the girl to blush, "I suspected that, not only did her body mutated to gain a Quirk, but also evolved it to immediately allow her to gain control of said Quirk."

"If that's true then you're definitely cheating," Momo pouted as she stared at Melissa. "You don't have to train at all to effectively use your Quirk!"

"Hehe, I don't really need this though," said Melissa, "But it might also prove useful."

"Alright!" Izuku smiled as the three turned towards him, "Mel, can you use your Quirk to look down at the lake? See if you can find the entrance to the cave."

Melissa nodded and her eyes changed, signifying that her Quirk has activated, she took a peek at the lake which is around fifty meters deep, she then saw the entrance of the cave, but her 'eyes' couldn't see what is beyond that point, as if something is blocking her sight.

She deactivated her Quirk and turned towards the other three, "I found the entrance, but something is blocking my sight and couldn't see what is inside."

They frowned, remembering what the monkey said earlier. That there is something dangerous in the cave.

"Can you try again?" Asked Bakugo, "Just focus your 'sight' on the cave and not anywhere else."

Melissa nodded, "I can try." Again, she activated her Quirk, but this time, she only focused on the entrance of the cave.

She frowned, knowing that she couldn't see through further than the entrance. But still, she persisted, and finally...she felt something break.

She smiled when she finally managed go peek through the cave, excited of what she'll see.

However...

The moment her 'sight' pass through the entrance, every hair on her body stood on end as she 'saw' a pair blood red eyes staring at her with a predatory look.

"¿!1€@v3¡?"

A terrifying voice spoke directly to her mind, as her Quirk immediately deactivated and her eyes rolled back before she passed out.

"MELISSA!"
