20 A disheveled heart

I opened my eyes. My head still spinning, I was feeling dizzy.

As my blurry vision cleared, I saw I was lying in the guest room all alone.

'So it didn't work, did it?'

I sighed.

My injuries have all healed at least. At least, some people in this world have cheats. I cried as I recalled the cloaked woman's healing magic.

'Oh God, why me? Oh truck-Kun, why me?'

Clair was very busy. After making sure that Steve was resting peacefully in his room she came back to her master to help her handle the matters.

A lot of people need to be silenced, a lot of people need to be convinced.

The match had too many eyes on it. And, a leak of information would only befall them with more bad luck.

This is the reason why Lapis was busy since the match ended. And, Clair helped her in the same.

She has learned her lesson from last time and didn't want to make any mistakes. The day was indeed very hectic for her.

However, after much struggles and much stress she was finally able to find some peace. She came back to her room and fell to her chair. Clair entered the room behind her.

Lapis sighed.

"Is there anything I can do for you, my lady?"

"Anything to do? There is so much to do but there is no way I can accomplish that," she said in a sad monotonous tone, "Who knew Steve was this strong? It was my negligence that led to this. There were too many eyes this time. No matter how much I threaten them they will eventually give in to greed."

That was her biggest concern. It would have been okay it was just her servants, she would just have to imprison them in the dungeon, which she already has. But, that match was witnessed by some of the mercenaries who had joined her father's army for gold. There is no way threatening them would stop their mouths.

"You mean Steve will...?"

"Yes, the bastards would try to capture him. We just have to watch out and defend him as they come"

This was Clair's biggest concern, every man wants to acquire greater strength. Steve would be a fine piece in their arsenal thereby increasing their strength, as such those nobles will definitely eye upon him, looking for an opportunity to snatch him from Lapis.

Lapis on the other hand had no actual use for his strength. Her reasoning for summoning him was something completely different altogether. So Lapis was comparatively safe than those other nobles.

Lapis understood the seriousness of the matter. She felt a huge burden on her shoulder. If it was the Clair of before she wouldn't be concerned regarding the matter and would have left everything for her lady's discretion.

But, the Clair of the past has already died. She felt the need to do something to help Steve. Maybe just warning him will help, maybe something else but she wanted to do at least something rather than putting hands on hands and letting bad luck befall him.

She was contemplating on what to do? But, nothing praiseworthy came to her mind.

"My lady, if there is nothing else I shall take my leave"

"You seem to be in a hurry," said Lapis raising one of her brows.

"Yes, my lady there are some matters related to the mansion that I need to attend to," she said as she bowed. Finally turning around she left the room.

As Clair left, Lapis kept staring at the door for quite a while. She had a hunch telling her that Clair was rushing to Steve's room.

She was having quite strange thoughts at the moment. You could say, what her heart wanted at the moment, she herself couldn't figure out.

"I thought that you would at least message my temples," Clair said as she rubbed her forehead. The hectic day had taken quite a toll on her mind.

But now instead of her mind, her heart was in a complex state.

She wasn't emotionally attached to Clair at least that's what she believed, and neither did Clair. Clair probably hated her for forcing herself on her.

But even then, she wouldn't have had stopped her actions. She was her maid and she can use her to let off whenever she wants.

However, now that Clair has found her man, she was not sure what to do. As if something deep within her heart was hurt and was telling her not to approach those. It wanted to let them be happy as they are and didn't want her to be a hindrance.

"Maybe, I shouldn't have ordered Clair to sleep with him"

Indeed, if that had been the case, her relation with Clair won't have changed. And she wouldn't have been feeling this unusual feeling. This feeling is annoying to her at most and she wanted to get rid of it.

She sighed and rested her head on the back support of her chair.

Before she could realize anything the tiredness engulfed her whole body and she dozed off to sleep. Such an irony, she was a severe headache a moment ago and now she is sleeping like a baby.

Clair stormed past the corridor. But even she was walking faster than her usual pace nothing was lacking in her elegance.

A butler cut her path in between.

"Clair, it high time, our lady might be expecting her dinner. So you should go and serve her," said the butler, not knowing that his lady has already fallen asleep.

However, Clair didn't want to attend to her duties at the moment. There was something much heavy swaying on her mind.

"I am busy at the moment, and I have informed the lady of the same. So, today in place of me I would like you to attend to the lady's needs," said Clair.

"Okay, I will do that" saying so, the butler left and so did Clair.

A deathly silence of the night fell on the corridor of the mansion.
