Mirabel did get a gift, but it didn't come with a door and that, combined with the fact she could turn into one of those evil dragons from the fairy tales, was enough for her to grow up believing her gift was a curse and a bad omen. She had to keep it secret or else she was absolutely certain she would be kicked out of Casita and Encanto.
