2 Chapter 2: For One Second

Her mother's words were etched into her mind. She pondered over and over again on the said contract. Seeing the maids who were sorting out the elegant clothing in her closet, she even decided upon asking them.

"H-hello, does anyone of you know anything about a contract?"

"Miss Sun Hee, excuse me, but none of us are aware of it." Her voice sounded shaky.

Why did everyone fear talking to her?

Sun Hee jumped on to the bed whilst wandering about the contract without a break. The curiosity was about to kill her! When did she decide to get married? Not knowing the truth was unbearable to her at this point. She was going to marry someone unknown without knowing for how long.

As she ran down the stairs like a little girl, the people working around were surprised. Upon arriving in the living room, she found that her mom was discussing some matters on the phone.

Sun Hee did not want to bother her, so she simply sat down on the armchair made of beautiful fabric and concentrated on scanning the details of this huge room. She noticed that in every corner of the room were objects of great value.

"What do you want again?" She asked with indifference present in her tone.

"The contract— Please tell me more about the contract."

"Are you ordering me? I don't have time for stupid things."

Kuyng Shin got up from the couch and left a cup of coffee on a beautifully designed, floral table. She didn't even bother saying goodbye to Sun Hee before leaving. Nonetheless, this made Sun Hee intrigued enough to go to her mother's room.

She wanted to open the door, but some maids begged her to stop doing that. However, Sun Hee's curiosity prevented her from listening to them, and she opened the door to her mother's bedroom.

She decided to look through the drawers first. Inside the drawers, there was only one unimportant sheet, and she left it again in the same spot in order to not arouse any suspicion.

The adrenaline rush she felt at that moment was incredible. She continued to wonder about what would happen if her mother found out she was searching inside of her room. Unwillingly, Sun Hee dropped a lamp, and instantly, she put her leg under it so that it wouldn't break.

Sweaty all over her body, Sun Hee found that her hands were soaked. In this situation, each second was regarded as important. She quickly started looking through the entire room once again; She searched under the small places and beds, within the closet, and even inside the shoes.

She had no idea on whether or not it a paper folder or if it a single paper. She didn't know whether it was a digital version and unwritten on paper. Every second made her increased how tense she felt.

Sun Hee lifted the heavy mattress off the bed to see if she could find anything below, and as she couldn't anything, she lowered the mattress when a small key on the bed caught her eyes. She took it and searched around the room for something that had a lock. Her eyes spotted a small safe, and it made Sun Hee feel bad for what she was about to do it. Nonetheless, she wanted that said contract. Thus, without thinking twice, she picked up the password under the safe and inserted it in the key.

When the 'click' sound reached her ears, Sun Hee's heart started to pound faster. Opening the safe, she found what was expected to be there: jewelry, money, and some papers at the bottom.

She stretched her arm and began to look over the pile of papers. After she saw the one with 'Sun Hee', she understood that this was the one. Almost instantly, she turned the first page over and found it was empty. Only a signature was there at the end of the paper.

This was...her signature?

The only thing she knew about her life, for now, was that it depended upon this simple, blank paper.

She kept searching through the room; She wanted to know more. Maybe something, even if it was small, could give her some more clues.

When she heard the voices outside suddenly, she immediately left everything in their place. Some maids were talking with Kuyng Shin.

"Madam, we can pick up whatever you need." They were attempting to hide Sun Hee.

"No, I can enter in."

Soon, the maids turned away to give her space. The moment Kuyng Shin went to open the door, Sun Hee hid under her bed. Sun Hee felt tense throughout her body, and only the high heels that her mother wore were visible to her.

Kuyng Shin took the key for the safe and then, leaned down a little in order to unlock the safe. Every move she did reflected elegance regardless of where it was.

"I already have it! Finally, all the fortunes will be mine."

She let out small laughter, which caused chills to run down within Sun Hee.

Her mother left the room, leaving Sun Hee alone, but this time without knowing it.
