14 Bad Wife

Phew. She's finally gone.

That was dangerous. I didn't think she'd agree so easily. I have to be careful when I go get our marriage documents and business agreement from the palace next week. I've never been there, but I just know that it's an awful place to be in. If I had to talk to multiple queens, I'd probably go insane. She's so damn annoying.

"Why did you say that I invented that weird thing you used?" Cera asked me something I wasn't expecting. Well, I can't say that she originally came up with it and if her name goes on the kingdom's list of achievements, it will guarantee her protection and standing.

"For your protection. If people know that you were the one that invented a new Alm Oath that the queen trusts, it will allow you to gain favor with the other nobility and they'll treat you well." I grabbed the book she brought, leaned back on the couch, and tapped in between my legs to tell her to sit in front of me.

"Come sit right here, we'll read together." Her eyes lit up and she comfortably placed herself in front of me. This is nice, but why did she pick household management? I opened the book in front of us and placed my chin on her shoulder because she was too tall for me to see the book properly.

"Why did you pick this one?" I flipped through the first few pages and skimmed them.

"When I was still living with my family, they forced me to learn everything about financial control and anything pertaining to household affairs. They wanted me to become an assistant for my older brother." Her voice didn't have any emotion in it and her fingers were fidgeting. Well, at least that answers one of my questions. She came from a ruined noble house.

"I don't know how to repay you for everything you've done for me. I want to help you in some way. I don't want to hold you back or become a burden for you. I want to stay by your-"

"Alright. That's enough." I put the book down and hugged her.

"I won't leave you. Even if you were the worst person in the world, a murderer, a thief, a liar, a crazy person, none of that matters to me. Even if you hurt me, I won't leave you." I could feel her Alm spiking up.

"I will never hurt you!" She screamed and her power fluxed the room with anger.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you upset. I just want you to know that I will never hurt you either. I promise to protect you and always be with you. I will never abandon you." I hugged her a bit tighter because I could feel her trying to hold back her tears. I don't know if this is enough to make her worries go away.

"If it makes you feel better, I'll use that Oath from earlier on myself so you know I'm not lyin-"

"No!!" Goddamn it, am I just making her feel worse?

"I believe you. So please, don't put another dangerous thing in your body…"

Dangerous thing? Ah, it's certainly dangerous. If I tell her how it works, maybe she'll be able to change it right now? Since it's originally her invention, she might just be able to use it.

"Don't reject it, okay? I'm going to show you how to use it and how to change it. The one I used with the queen can only be restructured by you. Of course, since the Oath is inside both of our bodies, you're the one that has to change it." I grabbed her left hand and pointed her palm toward us while I coursed my Alm through her.

"This is how the Oath is made. Can you feel it?" I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate on showing her.

"Try using your Alm to change the conditions. Think of it like a painting, all the colors and paint will remain, you're just changing the painting to something else. Instead of the painting being a cat, move the colors and shades to make a dog."

This is quite dangerous, she's also sending Alm inside me. For whatever reason, I'm not worried, but she and I could kill each other at any moment. My life is in her hands and even though I feel vulnerable, there's also a sense of security… is this what trust is?

I could feel her changing the Oath I made with the queen earlier. She's removing the death ultimatum and replacing it with something else, but I have no idea what. I can feel her Alm spiraling around my heart. It kind of feels good... After a few minutes she forced herself out of my arms, stood up and angrily looked at me.

"Why would you let me do that?! I could have killed you! If I made a single mistake, you would have immediately died!" I'd like to say her angry side is cute, but she's seriously pissed right now. I'm getting that same dangerous feeling I had when she said she would punish me.

"I can't really explain it, I just have this unconditional belief in your abilities and for some reason…" Is this feeling trust? I have no idea what it is.

"For some reason what?" Her angry face is really cute!

I tried to pull her back into my arms, but she stopped herself and her face ended up in front of mine.

"For some reason I liked it when you did that. You made me feel safe and comfortable." I smiled at her and I couldn't resist my urge to give her a slight peck on the cheek.

She still looked angry, but she had a smile on her face before she ran out of the living room with her dress flowing beautifully behind her. After a few seconds I heard the door to our room slam shut.

"She's just too cute. I wonder if she'll be like this forever." I said out loud, unable to hold my happiness.

I heard Noire's steps coming and she started shouting just as she got to the living room.

"Did something happen?! Why did I see Lady Cera running and slamming the door? Is she okay?!" Noire, why do you always have to yell?

"Don't worry about it. I'm just a bad wife."
